Broad Street is a major arterial street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It runs for approximately 13 miles beginning at the intersection of Cheltenham Avenue on the border of Cheltenham Township and the West/East Oak Lane neighborhoods of North Philadelphia to the Philadelphia Navy Yard in South Philadelphia. It is Pennsylvania Route 611 along its entire length with the exception of its northernmost part between historic Old York Road and Pennsylvania Route 309 (Cheltenham Avenue) and the southernmost part south of Interstate 95.
Broad Street runs north–south, in between 13th Street and 15th Street (there is no "14th Street" in Philadelphia, because Broad Street takes its place). It is interrupted by Philadelphia City Hall, which stands where Broad and Market Street would intersect in the center of the city. The streets of Penn Square, Juniper Street, John F. Kennedy Boulevard, and 15th Street form a circle around City Hall at this point. It is one of the earliest planned streets in the United States, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a continuous north-south street, planned by surveyor Thomas Holme and developed for Philadelphia in 1681[1]
Public transportation includes SEPTA's Broad Street Line subway, which served an average of about 137,000 riders per weekday in 2010, running beneath Broad for most of its length. The subway starts in the Fern Rock neighborhood and extends through Center City to Pattison Avenue in South Philadelphia.

Center City, Philadelphia
Center City includes the central business district and central neighborhoods of Philadelphia, in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is the former City of Philadelphia prior to the Act of Consolidation, 1854 which extended the city borders to be coterminous with Philadelphia County. Greater Center City has grown into the second-most populated downtown area in the United States, after Midtown Manhattan in New York City, with an estimated 183,240 residents in 2015.

Boundaries
Center City is bounded by Pine Street to the south, the Delaware River to the east, the Schuylkill River to the west, and Vine Street to the north. This means that Center City occupies the boundaries of the city before it was made coterminous with Philadelphia County in 1854. The Center City District, which has special powers of taxation, uses a complicated, irregularly shaped boundary that includes much but not all of this area, and also extends beyond it. The Philadelphia Police Department patrols three districts located within Center City. The three patrol districts serving Center City are the 6th, 9th, and 17th districts.

It became a prime destination for African-Americans in the Great Migration and surpassed two million occupants by 1950.

Broad Street is a major arterial street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It runs for approximately 13 miles beginning at the intersection of Cheltenham Avenue on the border of Cheltenham Township and the West/East Oak Lane neighborhoods of North Philadelphia to the Philadelphia Navy Yard in South Philadelphia. Welcome to Philadelphia, considered the birthplace of the United States.
The Declaration of Independence was written and read publicly here in 1776. When you tour Philadelphia, you’ll get a sense of the history that permeates the city through its numerous monuments, symbols, and other landmarks, such as the First Bank of the United States and the warship USS Olympia. Don’t forget to stop by the Liberty Bell and the remains of the Eastern State Penitentiary, which housed notorious criminals like Al Capone.
You don’t need a car to enjoy your Philadelphia sightseeing; take public transportation or rent a bike to explore the city streets at your leisure. Fairmount Park is the perfect place for a stroll, and if you’ve got kids, bring them to the Please Touch Museum, where they can enjoy interactive exhibits and displays that will educate and entertain. If you’ve still got some energy after that, visit the Philadelphia Zoo and make friends with some of the animals. Don’t forget to sample some of the delicious food available in Philadelphia, particularly the fresh goods and cooked meals at the Italian Market.

Take a tour of some of the most historic buildings of America.
Historic Philadelphia is where the Founding Fathers laid the groundwork for the creation of America. Not only is the city packed with sites that commemorate what they did, but you can visit the places where they actually lived and worked. Let's start with Declaration House on Seventh and Market Street. Thomas Jefferson lived here during the time he wrote the Declaration of Independence. He wrote the document in three weeks.
The Liberty Bell, right here on Sixth Street, is perhaps Philadelphia's most famous attraction. On July 8th, 1776, it was rung to commemorate the hearing of the Declaration of Independence. The Bell weighs 2,000 pounds, which may not be apparent by looking at it. It was cracked in 1846, and has not been rung since then. Across the street from the Liberty Bell is Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed. Inside you can visit the room where the representatives gathered and you can see the actual inkstand that was used at that time.
Congress Hall, as you might guess from the name, was home of the first Congress. On top of that, George Washington and John Adams were inaugurated here, and the Bill of Rights was ratified right inside. The Bourse Building was the first commodities exchange in the United States. This is the second bank of the United States which was modeled on the Parthenon in Athens. It was built in the early 1800's and was one of the most powerful financial institutions at one time.
The Merchant's Exchange, right here behind me, is the oldest stock exchange in the US. City Tavern is a recreation of the original City Tavern where the founding fathers, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and John Adams used to meet. You can have an authentic Eighteenth Century dining experience here. Even the waiters where outfits from those times. Here is the first bank of the United States, which was operational from 1797 to 1811.
At Franklin Court you can walk through Ben Franklin's house, kind of. Though the structure itself was raised in 1812, the ghost of it still stands today. Here is the Christ Church Burial Ground, another famous landmark, where Ben Franklin and four other signers of the Declaration of Independence were laid to rest. That was a short glimpse into the history of America. Most of these buildings are open to the public, check online for details. I am Brian Freedman, showing you Philadelphia.

Not only is Philly historical but it has some of the best food the United States has to offer! We head to Reading Terminal Market to try a Roast Port Sandwich at Dinic's and Ice Cream at Bassett's Ice Cream.
We also hop on board the Phlash Bus and tour the city for only 5 bucks!
Finally we hop a train to Lancaster to visit old friends in Amish country!

Philadelphia was once dubbed the, "Athens of the Americas," as it was the undisputed cultural centre of the New World. Today, it remains one of America's most historical cities; quite significant in a country officially only 230 years old. Philadelphia is where the American War of Independence began and ended, with the creation and signing of the Constitution. But Philly is so much more than just a beacon of American liberty.
Philadelphia also has a vibrant arts scene, diverse population, renowned orchestra, plus world-class museums and some fantastic restaurants. It is said Philadelphia is the only place in America where you could feed your brain and your belly at the same time and you only have to taste a Philly Cheesesteak once to understand that statement. Cheesesteaks and pretzels aside, you'll be amazed at the comprehensive choice of food available in the city, from fine dining to ethnic cuisine. This eclectic mix is visible in over 100 multi-ethnic neighbourhoods, encompassing everything from the bustling Italian market to African-American festivals and the traditional Amish community, who sell produce and foodstuffs in Reading Terminal Market, a purveyor of fresh farm food since 1892.
This diversity has also helped produce some legendary musicians. In fact, few would argue that Philly's musical heritage could rival that of New York. Since colonial times, it has been a melting pot of many forms of music from classical to contemporary. Philadelphia was also the home of Dick Clark's famous American Bandstand TV show, which showcased some of America's leading singers and musicians in the 1960's, such as Frankie Avalon and Bobby Rydell, themselves natives of Philly's south side. 'Me and Mrs Jones', 'Love Train' and the Three Degrees' 'When Will I See You Again' were all products of TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia), which followed Motown into the 1970s as the shining light of soul music.
Sightseers have plenty to feast their eyes on, not least Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. Known as Chocolatetown USA, 'the sweetest place on earth', this chocoholic Garden of Eden is a fun excursion. There's Hershey's Chocolate World, Hersheypark (an amusement park featuring 60 attractions and a zoo), two hotels and even a chocolate spa. Broad Street is a major arterial street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It runs for approximately 13 miles beginning at the intersection of Cheltenham Avenue on the border of Cheltenham Township and the West/East Oak Lane neighborhoods of North Philadelphia to the Philadelphia Navy Yard in South Philadelphia. It is Pennsylvania Route 611 along its entire length with the exception of its northernmost part between historic Old York Road and Pennsylvania Route 309 (Cheltenham Avenue) and the southernmost part south of Interstate 95.
Broad Street runs north–south, in between 13th Street and 15th Street (there is no "14th Street" in Philadelphia, because Broad Street takes its place). It is interrupted by Philadelphia City Hall, which stands where Broad and Market Street would intersect in the center of the city. The streets of Penn Square, Juniper Street, John F. Kennedy Boulevard, and 15th Street form a circle around City Hall at this point. It is one of the earliest planned streets in the United States, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a continuous north-south street, planned by surveyor Thomas Holme and developed for Philadelphia in 1681[1]
Public transportation includes SEPTA's Broad Street Line subway, which served an average of about 137,000 riders per weekday in 2010, running beneath Broad for most of its length. The subway starts in the Fern Rock neighborhood and extends through Center City to Pattison Avenue in South Philadelphia.

Broad Street is a major arterial street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It runs for approximately 13 miles beginning at the intersection of Cheltenham Avenue on the border of Cheltenham Township and the West/East Oak Lane neighborhoods of North Philadelphia to the Philadelphia Navy Yard in South Philadelphia. It is Pennsylvania Route 611 along its entire length with the exception of its northernmost part between historic Old York Road and Pennsylvania Route 309 (Cheltenham Avenue) and the southernmost part south of Interstate 95.
Broad Street runs north–south, in between 13th Street and 15th Street (there is no "14th Street" in Philadelphia, because Broad Street takes its place). It is interrupted by Philadelphia City Hall, which stands where Broad and Market Street would intersect in the center of the city. The streets of Penn Square, Juniper Street, John F. Kennedy Boulevard, and 15th Street form a circle around City Hall at this point. It is one of the earliest planned streets in the United States, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a continuous north-south street, planned by surveyor Thomas Holme and developed for Philadelphia in 1681[1]
Public transportation includes SEPTA's Broad Street Line subway, which served an average of about 137,000 riders per weekday in 2010, running beneath Broad for most of its length. The subway starts in the Fern Rock neighborhood and extends through Center City to Pattison Avenue in South Philadelphia.
