About the Project
---------------------------
As of today, it is estimated that there are more than 7 billion humans living on Earth.
Humans have only been a glimpse in the Earth’s timeline, yet in the last 200 years the evolution of mankind has skyrocketed as well as the need for Earth’s resources.
Skyscrapers are growing taller than the next, like huge trees battling for sunlight. At night, from a higher point of view, traffic evokes lava flowing down a volcano.
Like a giant ant colony, humans have made this planet their own. But what about the Earth? Can we continue to take without consequences?
The City Limits tries to show that even though humans are the dominant species on the planet, there is something bigger than us.
In Carl Sagan’s own words “Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. It is up to us.”
Human progress and technology are developing at exponential rates but at what cost?
Where is the city’s limit?

Just because it's Christmas - And at Christmas ...
This is a short story of the lonely robot celebrating holidays.
Primavera - Spring (season) in Italian
Set of "Making Of" photos can be found here with the comments:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/vmetron/sets/72157624089679968/
I took days off from Christmas to New Year and planned to make
a short film in Yosemite, but then I saw this little robot and thought
it would be more interesting to use him in the story. Besides there are
many robots on this planet who always spend holidays alone.
Then I watched the original movie once again with all the comments from
its director Andrew Stanton (for inspiration). I listed a few scenes,
which I wanted to shoot, scribbled some storyboards ( they are really like scribbles
from 3 year old kid, but turned out to be very useful) and started off.
I started filming it right on the day after Christmas by driving to Yosemite,
and then spent many more snowy weekends in Tahoe and Yosemite making
all these shots one by one. Some of the shots involved hiking, skiing and
even snowshoeing. Not that they were required, but just
because I like all of that.
I even flew this little robot to Alaska, not sure if he enjoyed it though:
One morning we stopped to make one shot on the way to Exit Glacier.
It was 7'F outside, that's super cold, so his battery was dying every minute
and I had to carry him to the car to heat him up after each take.
At that moment I thought that it would be much more interesting to shoot
video of me struggling with not-so-cooperative robot, freezing temperatures
and all the things which I have not done before but eager to learn.
Thanks to Gogaren, Uma, Zoran and Zorana for ideas,
feedback and for dropping the robot from the cliff ( with parachute ),
to Adam for the snow.

Cambodia
I was fortunate enough to spend 2 weeks in Cambodia, if you haven't yet been, go. I had an amazing time and would highly recommend visiting.
Shot in HD on a Lumix GH1 with stock lens 14-140mm - (used for about 90% of the shots) and Nikkor 50mm f1.4.
Music by Bonobo - Recurring
---------------------------------
For those that are planning to go, here are my top 8 Cambodia travel tips (which are probably not unique to Cambodia):
* The level of English was higher than I expected, but try to learn a few words in Khmer (Cambodian), even if it's only 'hello' and 'thank you', it goes a long way.
* If you intend to buy a Lonely Planet before you come out -don't bother. There are lots of people (usually landmine victims) that sell them, they'll be more grateful that you buy a book from them than Amazon will ever be.
* Even though there is some good stuff in the Lonely Planet, don't live by it, use it as a basic template. Remember that it's only 1-2 people's opinion. Check out sites like TripAdvisor.com and WikiTravel.org also restaurants and cafes will have free guides which are more up to date and written by people that live there.
* Give the 'The Killing Fields' film a miss, it gives little explanation of what happened. Read Survival in The Killing Fields by Ngor Haing it's an amazing but horrific first hand account of what happened in Cambodia.
* Bring small pocket change (pence/cents), you can dish them out to the kid sellers when you're not interested in buying their bracelets or books. Their money is in note form, so they hardly see coins and the kids went nuts for them.
* It is generally safe but it's not unheard of that drive-by bag snatching occurs. Make sure your bag strap is around your torso and the bag in front of you, as opposed to on your shoulder by your side. I happen to witness one a few metres in front of me and the bag was snatched off a girl's shoulder as smooth as silk.
* It does get tiresome and annoying that amputees constantly approach you to sell you postcards and books, but appreciate the fact that they're earning their keep as opposed to the able-bodied beggars here at home.
* Remember to use your eyeballs, appreciate being there in the moment. Break the routine of thinking about composing shots and angles, leave the camera at the hotel for a day. The sad reality is that you'll probably spend more time looking at the scenery on a computer screen than you will with your eyeballs.
Enjoy.
