HUNGARY-BRAZIL 4-2 Jun 27 1954 Quarter Final Magyarország-Brazília VB negyeddöntő FIFA World Cup Switzerland quarter final Berne, Wankdorf Stadium Ref: Ellis (England) Attendance: 60000 Hidegkuti 4' (Hungary) Djalma Santos 18'(p) (Brazil) Kocsis 7' , 88' (Hungary) Lantos 60'(p) (Hungary) Julinho 65' (Brazil) Evil overcame good in the 1954 World Cup quarter-final as a now-infamous game between the two most talented teams on Earth descended into carnage. Hungary, known as the Mighty Magyars, had come into the competition on the back of a four-year unbeaten streak and were well-deserving favourites to emerge triumphant in Switzerland. The Hungarians, inspired by the brilliant Ferenc Puskas, were reigning Olympic champions and had stunned the footballing world with a 6-3 demolition of England at Wembley in 1953. Their opponents Brazil were also a dangerous team. Runners-up at the 1950 World Cup, they were expected by many to challenge for the title. The two sides met at the Wankdorf Stadium in Berne on June 27th. But a match that was expected to go down as a classic quickly degenerated into a viciously ill-tempered affair. Hungary started much the better side and quickly established a 2-0 lead, and although Brazil soon began to fight back, their efforts were hindered by niggling fouls from the Europeans. One such foul earned Brazil a penalty, from which Djalma Santos converted to make it 2-1. Thereafter, the game grew progressively violent. Jozsef Bozsik reacted badly to a ...

Hunger strike / Éhségsztrájk / former Prime Minister of Hungary Ferenc Gyurcsány in Budapest
Hungarian former prime minister Ferenc Gyurcsany began a week-long hunger strike Sunday to protest against a government shake-up of the electoral system which he says could deprive many people of their vote. Gyurcsany, who was the country's prime minister between 2004 and 2009 and now leads an opposition party Democratic Coalition said the draft electoral law, which includes a requirement for voters to register themselves in advance in order to vote, could prevent "hundreds of thousands or even millions" of people from voting in elections. Opponents of the proposal fear that voter turnout at elections will be significantly reduced by the registration requirement, an outcome which could favor the conservative government coalition led by Prime Minister Viktor Orban's Fidesz party at the next election in spring 2014. "It is unacceptable that anyone who decides only 2 days before an election that he wants to vote cannot do so and take part in the election," Gyurcsany said in a TV interview. The government, however, said the new law will streamline a system which had required some voters to register, for examples Hungarians living around the world and members of national minorities within Hungary, while others did not have to. "Such a hybrid system is unsustainable," Antal Rogan, leader of the Fidesz parliamentary party, told a press conference on Friday. Gyurcsany and three party colleagues joining the strike, Peter Niedermuller, Csaba Molnar and Istvan Kolber, began ...

Faith Church Hungary
Faith Church considers itself as representing a modern Reform movement in Hungary. It accepts the results and spiritual, moral values of both early Christianity and the Reformation, as well as other revival movements serving the progress of the Christian faith. Nowadays the process of renewal gains new momentum from all around the world, affecting both the traditional Christian communities and the Pentecostal-Charismatic churches formed during the 20th century.

Austria-Hungary at War
The Imperial Royal military of Austria-Hungary has become fashionable to downplay, however, they were in fact a potent force; one of the largest in the world, and given the array of disadvantages they faced their accomplishments should be considered remarkable. On land they performed well in numerous campaigns, particularly on the Italian front, and at sea the small Austrian submarine force actually had a higher ratio of kills vs torpedoes fired than even the Germans. Their artillery was superb and, with help from their allies played a large part in the victories on the eastern and Balkan fronts and produced a number of extremely able commanders. Count Conrad von Hoetzendorf was considered the best strategist in Europe at the time of the war. Others such as Baron Straussenburg, Archduke Joseph who was very popular with the Hungarians, Marshal Krobatin, Captain von Trapp Austria's top u-boat ace and the Serbian Orthodox Croat Marshal Boroevic who was the first Slav to be made a field marshal. Other junior officer also went on to great success in succeeding conflicts.

Kárpátia - Hajdanán ( with english translation in description )
Kárpátia's song "IN DAYS OF OLD" with English lyrics. A song listing all the Hungarian subgroups (except for the Matyó people, maybe). Szekler people: en.wikipedia.org Hun people: en.wikipedia.org Csango people: en.wikipedia.org Jassic people: en.wikipedia.org Palóc people: en.wikipedia.org Lyrics: In days of old a Szekler went out to the forest, Was beckoned deeper and deeper by fairytales He wandered there, where nobody had been before, Found a home in the middle of the woods, And he said: chorus: Hear me, Hungarians, Scythians, Huns, and Avars. Made of the same flesh, the same blood, I'm one with you! Hear me, Hungarians, Scythians, Huns, and Avars. Made of the same flesh, the same blood, I'm from the same tribe! In days of old a Hun girl was out on the green fields, And cut off a mop of her long, fair hair The graceful wind took it far away, And so the silken grass of the planes became her home, And she said: chorus. In days of old a Csango was sitting on the large cliff, His heart floating like the birds on the sky, He listened to the humming of the fir woods, Looked down upon his sweet home, And he said: chorus. In days of old a wizened Jassic traveled on the wide wilds, His soul warmed by the music of the crickets, The dry, hot wind blew around him, As the sun set, he found his home, And he said: chorus. In days of old a Palóc climbed the foot of hills, Eased his thirst with the water of cool rivers, Stuck his staff into the earth, In his good home, a bud sprung on ...

The city Sopianae was founded by Romans at the beginning of the 2nd century, in an area peopled by Celts and Pannoni tribes. The early Christian necropolis is from this era which became an UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 2000. Its episcopate was founded in 1009 by Steven I, and the first university in Hungary was founded in Pécs in 1367 by Louis I the Great. (The largest university still resides in Pécs with about 34000 students). AmaWaterays Danube River Cruise Excursion to Budapest, Hungary En Route to Istanbul, Turkey
AmaWaterways Danube River Cruise Excursion to Budapest, Hungary at the begining of an AmaWaterways River Cruise to Istanbul, Turkey on the Black Sea. Budapest is a fascinating city with two separate section, Buda and Pest, separated by the mighty Danube River. History is part and parcel of the city with many picturesque bridges and monuments. The history of Budapest began with Aquincum, originally a Celtic settlement that became the Roman capital of Lower Pannonia. Hungarians arrived in the territory in the 9th century. Their first settlement was pillaged by the Mongols in 1241-42. The re-established town became one of the centres of Renaissance humanist culture ] in the 15th century.[16] Following the Battle of Mohács and nearly 150 years of Ottoman rule,[17] development of the region entered a new age of prosperity in the 18th and 19th centuries, and Budapest became a global city after the 1873 unification. It also became the second capital of Austria-Hungary, a great power that dissolved in 1918. After the Treaty of Trianon in 1920, when Hungary lost 72% of its former territory, culturally and economically the country became wholly Budapest-dominated. The capital dominates the country both by the size of its population—which dwarfs those of Hungary's other cities[19] Budapest was the focal point of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848, the Hungarian Soviet Republic of 1919, Operation Panzerfaust in 1944, the Battle of Budapest of 1945, and the Revolution of 1956 ...
