The film was directed by Louis Gasnier and starred a cast composed of mostly unknown bit actors. Originally financed by a church group under the title Tell Your Children, the film was intended to be shown to parents as a morality tale attempting to teach them about the dangers of cannabis use.[5] However, soon after the film was shot, it was purchased by producer Dwain Esper, who re-cut the film for distribution on the exploitation film circuit beginning in 1938/39 through the 40s and 50s.[5] The film was "rediscovered" in the early 1970s and gained new life as satire among advocates of cannabis policy reform.[5][6] Although finding a popular audience as a cult film, critics have panned it as one of the worst films ever made. Mental illness affects everyone. Although the statistics state that 1 in 5 people have a mental illness, there are 4 in 5 people who know someone that suffers from a mental illness. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) suicide is the second leading cause of death amongst young people ages 15 to 24. In a society that is vastly expanding and becoming more connected through the forums of social media and technology, why is it that young people are not reaching out for support? Maybe, we just aren’t asking the right questions. Instead of asking the question of “why”, maybe we should be asking ourselves “what”. What can we do as a society today, to prevent any more future deaths by suicide? Source: Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). (2014). Fast facts about mental illness. A Brighter Future for Turtle Island: Rebuilding Our Canadian Culture Indigenous Peoples in Canada are not often thought as an intricate part of our nation’s history. In fact, Indigenous peoples were viewed as subhuman, savages, and animals. Policies were created to eliminate the Indigenous identity such as the Indian Act. Moreover, Indian Residential Schools were created in which children were taken from home and taught at boarding schools. It is estimated that over 4000 children died in residential schools from malnourishment or sickness –those are the ‘reported’ deaths. The children that did not die endured physical abuse, molestation and rape. Ironically, this plan was never completed. In fact, Canada’s Indigenous population is young and growing rapidly – more than six times faster than the non-Indigenous population. Almost half of Indigenous people in Canada are under 25. Canada ranks 4th on the U.N. Human Development Index, but would rank 78th if we allowed for statistics on Indigenous poverty. In fact, 40% of Indigenous Children in Canada live in poverty. Indigenous suicide rates are 11 times higher than other people in Canada. Other pressing examples include the high number of missing and murdered Indigenous women, and lower high school graduation rates. My presentation will examine the policy challenges that the Canadian government will endure to ensure educational and job prospects for this young population that can potentially accumulate over 400 billion in revenue for Canada. Simultaneously, an opportunity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples to create new relationships exists. These relationships are not only based on economic development we must actually take the time to learn about Indigenous cultures by educating ourselves. For example, the University of Winnipeg is introducing mandatory Indigenous classes, and McGill university has also added Indigenous law to their transsytemic educational approach. Indigenous peoples are not a number, Indigenous culture was once very important to Canada. Even the word Canada, stems from the Mohawk word Kanata, meaning new village. The future of our Indigenous peoples and Canada’s commitment to multi-culturalism starts with understanding our past heritage.

Zorro's Fighting Legion is a 1939 Republic Pictures film serial consisting of twelve chapters. It features Reed Hadley as Zorro. The plot revolves around his alter-ego Don Diego's fight against the evil Don Del Oro. A trademark of this serial is the sudden demise of at least one native informant in each episode. The direction was identical for each informant's death, creating a source of unintentional humor: each informant, upon uttering the phrase, "Don Del Oro is...", is shot by a golden arrow and dies before being able to name the villain's alter ego. The serial is also unusual in featuring a real historical personage, Mexican President Benito Juárez, as a minor character. The mysterious Don Del Oro ("Lord of Gold"), an idol of the Yaqui Indians, has emerged and attacks the gold trade of the Republic of Mexico, planning to take over the land and become Emperor. A man named Francisco is put in charge of a fighting legion to combat the Yaqui tribe and protect the gold, but he is attacked by men working for Don Del Oro. Zorro comes to his rescue, but it is too late for him. Francisco's partner recognizes Zorro as the hidalgo Don Diego Vega. Francisco asks Diego, as Zorro, to take over the fighting legion and defeat Don Del Oro. Cast: Reed Hadley, Sheila Darcy, William Corson, Leander De Cordova, Edmund Cobb, John Merton, C. Montague Shaw, Budd Buster, Carleton Young, Bud Geary.

noodls 2013-05-24Carleton Scott Young (October 21, 1905 – November 7, 1994) was an American character actor born in New York City, New York and known for his deep voice.
Young was married from 1945 until his death in 1994 to Noel Toy (the "Chinese Sally Rand"), an exotic dancer and actress whom he met when he caught her dance act at New York's Latin Quarter and was smitten.
Young appeared in 235 American television and film roles with his first being The Fighting Marines (1935). He ended his career in the 1973 television series The Magician which starred Bill Bixby.
Other films Young was cast in are: Reefer Madness (1936) Navy Blues (1937), Dick Tracy (1937), Valley of the Sun (1942), Flying Leathernecks (1951), The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), From Here to Eternity (1953), Walt Disney's adaptation of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) as John Howard, and The Horse Soldiers (1959). His big line in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) was: "This is the West, sir. When the legend becomes fact, print the legend."
"The Man" is a slang phrase that may refer to the government or to some other authority in a position of power. In addition to this derogatory connotation, it may also serve as a term of respect and praise.
The phrase "the Man is keeping me down" is commonly used to describe oppression. The phrase "stick it to the Man" encourages resistance to authority, and essentially means "fight back" or "resist", either openly or via sabotage.
The earliest recorded use[citation needed] of the term "the Man" in the American sense dates back to a letter written by a young Alexander Hamilton in September 1772, when he was 15. In a letter to his father James Hamilton, published in the Royal Dutch-American Gazette, he described the response of the Dutch governor of St. Croix to a hurricane that raked that island on August 31, 1772. "Our General has issued several very salutary and humane regulations and both in his publick and private measures, has shewn himself the Man." [dubious – discuss] In the Southern U.S. states, the phrase came to be applied to any man or any group in a position of authority, or to authority in the abstract. From about the 1950s the phrase was also an underworld code word for police, the warden of a prison or other law enforcement or penal authorities.
