Arirang Special M60Ep206 Korea's Intangible Cultural Heritage- Arirang
Subscribe : http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=arirang Part 1 ? Korea's Intangible Cultural Heritage- Arirang Korean Folk Song 'Arirang' registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage In December 2012, UNESCO registered 'Arirang', which embodies the style and spirit of the Korean people, as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. For over 600 years, the value of the Korean Arirang has been spread throughout various regions, and having had positive results, Arirang has truly become globalized. Now, going beyond Korea, Arirang has become a valuable Cultural Heritage that will be protected worldwide. The search for the 3 types of Korean Arirang... By region, countless versions of Arirang, the song of the Koreans, have been handed down, and Jeongseon is where it all began. At Jeongseon where the South Han River rafts had their departure point, captains of ships fought tough currents while singing the Jeongseon Arirang during their passage. Also, unrequited love is a legendary theme within Arirang. Even until the present day, without change, Arirang is a song that anyone can sing line by line, each becoming a poet and thus becoming someone from Jeongseon itself. In addition, from the Milyang Arirang which shows a lightheartedness with its melody to the Jindo Arirang which helps to sooth the tough lives of the island regions, we will get the pulse of the three Arirangs of Korea. The spread of the historical Arirang throughout Korea There was a time where Arirang experienced change, and this from the everyday life of one region. Towards the end of the Chosun era, workers from every region who had come to help with the Gyoungbokgung Palace construction work were given a palace feast to help them recover from their hardwork and weariness. It was here at the feast that the Gangwon province Arari became popular. As the construction finished and workers returned to their hometowns, they continued singing the Arari and later gave their own regional color, thus spreading different versions of Arirang. As a result of the Gyoungbokgung Palace construction work, history was made as Arirang could spread throughout the country. Afterwards, through director Na Woon Gyu's movie Arirang, the whole country began to love the song Arirang. Na Woon Gyu developed the 'theme song of Arirang' remembering how he heard it from his childhood memories in his hometown of Hweryung. The theme of 'Arirang' in his movie became a huge hit and Arirang experienced a renaissance. More than just a popular song, within the lyrics describing the Arirang hill, it expressed the longings of the era and followed with an even larger directional shift. Arirang Diaspora Among ethnic Koreans In Yanbian, China, Arirang plays a role far greater than that of a folk song. From Arirang signage hung everywhere to Arirang song classes in ethnic Korean elementary schools, despite having left the motherland many years ago, Arirang is a song that to them represents a longing for the homeland. For 93 year old Mrs. Shin Oak Wha who left her homeland over 70 years ago, living her whole life for Arirang, despite her being uncomfortable with movement now, even now she remembers Arirang clearly. A life devoted to Arirang, she has a passion like no other regarding Arirang and her emotions resound with a life devoted to Arirang. Global citizens' Arirang, the Globalization of Arirang Adopted at the age of two to the Netherlands, Harpist Ravinia Meijer and the first westerner to become a Seoul National University professor in Korean traditional music Hillary Finchum-Sung: what meaning does Arirang hold for them? People who protect Arirang, redefining Arirang Jin Yong Sun has operated the Arirang school in Jeongseon for the past 20 years. Always on the hunt for material on Arirang, there is not a place that he leaves uncovered not only domestically, he also searches worldwide. Because of this, his Arirang school in Jeongseon rivals any museum in its display of all things Arirang. For years, the fusion folk group 'Arisu' has made a variety of attempts to redefine Arirang, and jazz singer Na Yoon Sun who actively performs overseas always includes Arirang in her concerts. Helping a great variety and neverending stream Arirang contents to be cultivated, their efforts are the important foundation that helps ensure Korea's Arirang to endure- published: 16 Dec 2013

25 Reasons North Korea Is The Most Ridiculous Dictatorship Ever
Brutal, immature, comical, strange, and disillusioned would probably be some of the adjectives people think of when asked to describe the leadership in North Korea. We'll take that a step further. Here are 25 reasons North Korea is the most ridiculous dictatorship ever. https://twitter.com/list25 https://www.facebook.com/list25 http://list25.com Check out the text version too! - http://list25.com/25-reasons-north-korea-is-the-most-ridiculous-dictatorship-ever/ Here's a preview: The World Food Programme estimates that 6 million of North Korea's 25 million people are in need of food aid or are chronically malnourished. Nearly 2 million people died as a result of a famine in 1990 cause by poor government farming policies. There have even been reports that several regions have turned to cannibalism. All North Koreans must abide by one of 28 state approved haircuts Only military and government officials can own motor vehicles North Korea actually recieves a small amount of defectors from other nations. These include 6 American soldiers from after the Korean War. A few soldiers even decided to stay in North Korea after being released from POW camps North Korea has one of the largest armies in the world, surpassed only by India, China, and the United States In fact, North Korea spends about one third of its national income on the military. The border between North Korea and South Korea is one of the most militarized in the world. Kim Jong-Un's brother Kim Jong-Nam is known for bizarre behavior. In 2001 he was arrested in a Japanese airport on a fake Dominican passport under the name Pang Xiong which literally translates to "fat bear". He told authorities he was trying to go to Disneyland afterwhich he ended up being exiled to China. This is why Jim Jong Un is now the supreme leader instead. Here's a fun fact about Kim: he went to boarding school in Switzerland where his classmates say he was obsessed with basketball but not very bright. The North Korean military dug tunnels into South Korean territory. Before they got discovered they painted the sides of the tunnels black and claimed they were digging for coal. In 1978 Kim Jong-Il kidnapped a South Korean film director in Hong Kong to jump start North Korea's film industry. The director managed to escape 8 years later during a film festival in Vienna. The most famous film to be produced as a result of his kidnapping was a Godzilla ripoff called Pulgasari in which a small rice doll grows into a huge mythical creature that helps the peasants of the land overthrow their monarch. Kim Jong-Il was executive producer. According to Kim Jong-Il's official biography he was born on Mount Paektu under a double rainbow as a new star appeared in the sky. He also supposedly learned to walk at 3 weeks old, corrected his elementary school teachers while in class, and ended up writing over 1500 books. Did we mention that he shot a 38 under par on the national golf course before retiring from the sport because he couldn't do any better. No wonder he's supreme leader. Despite all this he was deathly afraid of flying and would only travel around the country in armored trains stopping at stations built specifically for him. One Russian diplomat described how he had lobster airlifted to his train everyday Nearly a quarter million North Koreans live in prison camps surrounded by electrified fencing All legal televisions are tuned to state-controlled domestic programming North Korea has a vast network of informants who monitor their fellow citizens and report to authorities. Unauthorized access to TV broadcasts has been punished by execution. The only internet is a closed domesting network although visitors are allowed 3G access School children must provide their own desks and chairs. And the money to pay for heating. North Korea gets most of its funding from providing weapons and narcotics to terror groups and rogue nations. It is also one of the largest counterfeiters of US dollar bills.- published: 27 Dec 2013
