This Republican Is Stupid, Not Racist
"A Nevada assemblyman came under fire Monday after a YouTube video surfaced in which he told a Republican gathering he would vote to allow slavery if that is what his constituents wanted him to do. "If that's what they wanted, I'd have to hold my nose ... they'd probably have to hold a gun to my head, but yeah," Assemblyman Jim Wheeler told members of the Storey County Republican Party at a meeting in August. His comments were swiftly denounced by Republicans and Democrats alike...".* Cenk Uygur, Jayar Jackson and Jesus Godoy break it down on a TYT Supreme Court segment on The Young Turks. *Read more here: http://www.politico.com/story/2013/10/nevada-jim-wheeler-slavery-remarks-98999.html#ixzz2jASwX200- published: 30 Oct 2013

Democrat, Republican Battle Tea Partier Amy Kramer on CNN Over Whether GOP Shut Down Government
10/14/13 - On Monday night's Out Front with Erin Burnett, a prominent Republican and Democratic commentator went after a Tea Party leader following her assertion it was not Republicans in Congress but President Barack Obama and Democrats who shut down the federal government. Burnett began by asking Tea Party Express Chair Amy Kramer if she thought shutting down the government over Obamacare was worth it given the fact that it look unlikely that Republican will be able to secure any major reforms to that program. "I don't believe that the Republicans shut down the government," Kramer replied. "Obamacare is a job killing program that we can't afford." The Daily Beast's John Avlon said the shutdown was compelled by House Republicans and that it was not worth it. "To pretend it's a win, or to pass the other buck and say this was [Sen.] Harry Reid's plot all along, isn't dealing with reality," he said. RELATED: Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz Call Out Obama for Not Appearing at Vets Protests Burnett asked Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen if she thought President Obama had exhibited leadership during the shutdown fight. "He's been the stalwart that's, you know, forced this deal as it's happening right now," Rosen asserted. She added that she thought Kremer's rhetoric foreshadowed a tougher fight needed in order to pass a deal to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling than many predict. "I think all of us would agree here that our government cannot keep functioning this way," Kremer said. "We have a $17 trillion debt and it's not acceptable." "This whole kamikaze kabuki has actually increased costs," Avlon shot back. "It has not actually helped deal with the deficit and debt. If we're serious about that, that's when you go to conference." Rosen insisted that the deficit has decreased dramatically and the Republicans have won a victory by forcing the Democrats to accept sequester-level cuts to the budget- published: 15 Oct 2013

Republican Senator Admits Defunding Obamacare Didn't Work
"Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) delivered a "reality check" to her GOP colleagues, telling them that shutting down the government to defund ObamaCare hasn't worked. "It's time for a reality check: Defunding ObamaCare did not work as a strategy, so let's work together to find common ground," Ayotte said Friday. Lawmakers are still at an impasse on how to pass a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government. House Republicans have tried to use the funding measure to defund and repeal parts of ObamaCare, but Senate Democrats have said the House needs to pass a "clean" CR without any riders...".*Cenk Uygur, Adam Green (PCCC), Dave Rubin (The Rubin Report), and break it down on The Young Turks. The Future of the Republican Party
The Future of the Republican Party
The Future of the Republican Party After defeats in the last two Presidential elections, many Republicans are reexamining their policies. Some argue the GOP should move to the middle to attract more independent voters, and those who are seeking moderate policies and "electable" candidates. Others argue that the greatest need is for strong conservatives who provide a starker electoral choice, pointing to the success of Tea Party candidates in the last few election cycles, and the motivation of conservatives in primaries. Where will the inter-party debate lead? The rallying cry, "Stop Obamacare" gains headlines, but what about a positive agenda that solves the problems Americans face? What role should public policy play in developing an approach to the next few election cycles? In the context of GOP tradition, what policies should Republicans pursue to improve the lives of Americans, and to remain competitive? The current immigration debate highlights that policies with social and economic implications may be places of both division but also opportunity. What are the ideas Republicans don't discuss enough now that they should be considering? Are there family, poverty reduction, environmental, early childhood, workforce, education, child care, and other domestic policy areas which the GOP should look to to promote social mobility and regain influence? Rush Limbaugh Goes Off On Republican Party After Shutdown Surrender
"Rush Limbaugh isn't pleased about the GOP surrender in the 2013 government shutdown and debt ceiling. As The Blaze points out, the conservative radio host took to his show on Wednesday and blasted the GOP for being "irrelevant" and being responsible for "one of the greatest political disasters I've ever seen in my lifetime"...Limbaugh then went on to defend Sen. CNN: Awful Republican Poll Numbers 'May Be Blunted' by Obamacare Speech
CNN: Awful Republican Poll Numbers 'May Be Blunted' by Obamacare Speech
10/21/13 - The failed Republican effort to defund Obamacare via government shutdown/default has been attended by a wealth of absurd media coverage, but CNN's New Day set a new bar for meta-absurdity Monday morning. In reporting dreadful numbers for Republicans in its own poll, CNN has also been reporting that President Obama's planned speech on Obamacare this morning might just even things out. The new CNN/ORC poll is just the most recent in a slew of public opinion surveys that show Republicans taking a huge political hit in the wake of the government shutdown, but the mainstream media's lust for a "both sides" narrative makes it impossible for CNN to just leave it at that. What's absurd, though, is the way New Day's Chris Cuomo and Kate Bolduan tied the Republicans' terrible poll news with President Obama's speech later this morning. First, during one typical New Day top-of-the-hour news tease, Cuomo reported that "the American people think Republican control of the House is a bad thing, but could the President's admission, later today, about Obamacare's mistakes mean the beginning of a comeback?" It's no secret that the rollout of the Obamacare website has been an epic fustercluck, but that has been true for three weeks, and has not been a secret, so why would that not already be reflected in CNN's poll, and why would that change today? Put a pin in that for a moment. Moments later, co-anchor Kate Bolduan teased the poll numbers again, then predicted "But that news may be blunted by the President as he prepares to address Obamacare today, and all of the problems that have plagued the system's launch." That's a bold one from Bolduan, isn't it? How could a CNN anchor possibly know how something might affect the way the CNN might cover CNN's poll? It's like a backscatter x-ray of mainstream media narrative-building, and nobody looks good in one of those. Beyond that, though, Boduan and Cuomo effectively diagnose the shiny-object syndrome that plagues the current political news media (Obamacare doesn't cover that), because they are basically admitting that without a government shutdown to bat around with their paws, the media is free to chase the laser pointer that is the Obamacare website. CNN has been promoting this narrative all morning, reporting that President Obama is going to "speak extensively" about the glitches that have plagued the Healthcare.gov launch, and while the President will surely touch on that during the speech, here's how the White House describes the address, scheduled for 11:25 am: Later in the morning, the President will deliver remarks in the Rose Garden on the Affordable Care Act. The President will be joined by consumers, small business owners, and pharmacists who have either benefitted from the health care law already or are helping consumers learn about what the law means for them and how they can get covered. The group will include individuals who have already applied for and enrolled in quality, affordable coverage through the Marketplaces and those who are planning to after exploring and comparing their new health care options. What CNN seems to be telegraphing is that they plan to ignore the bulk of that speech, and focus exclusively on the glitches. What are the odds that focus will include more assertions that the President and Republicans are now in a tie for everything? Stay tuned!- published: 21 Oct 2013

Republican Loses Dream Of Banning Sodomy
"The U.S. Supreme Court declined Monday to take up an appeal of a lower-court ruling that struck down Virginia's anti-sodomy law, halting state Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II's long-standing legal efforts to preserve the statute. Cuccinelli is the Republican nominee for governor on the Nov. 5 ballot, and Virginia's "crimes against nature" law — which bans oral and anal sex — has become a flash point in his contest against businessman Terry McAuliffe (D), who has portrayed Cuccinelli as an extremist on social issues."* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur breaks it down. *Read more here from Ben Pershing / The Washington Post: http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2013-10-07/local/42786051_1_terry-mcauliffe-child-predators-virginia-s- published: 12 Oct 2013

"An appearance on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" has cost Don Yelton, a member of the N.C. Republican Party, his position as Buncombe County precinct chair for the GOP. A five-minute segment of the Comedy Central show Wednesday night about the state's new election law, focused a good bit on Yelton's racial views. On Thursday, as the video went viral, Claude Pope, chairman of the N.C. Republican Party, called for Yelton's resignation. Papantonio: Chris Christie - The Face of The Republican Train Wreck
Do you remember the last presidential primaries when the only viable candidate that Republicans had was Jon Huntsman? The Democrats were able to cheer virtually every week, after every debate, and after every press conference that GOP candidates participated in because, except for Huntsman, the image of an unstable oddball GOP field of candidates always made its way to the surface. Expect to see that again. It has already begun in the frenzy that has developed over Chris Christie's victory in New Jersey. Yesterday, all the right wing talk pundits were operating at DEFCON 12 levels of crazy talk about Chris Christie, the sellout. I personally love these moments. The early beginnings of another teabag Republican train wreck, and all of us get to watch it on a slow motion screen. It's my hope that the Democratic candidate (besides Hillary Clinton) will rise up and take advantage of the goofy events that will continue to develop within the GOP as the presidential primaries approach. Using the translation to all the crazy talk that we're hearing from the Limbaughs, Hannities, Rand Pauls, and Marco Rubios about Chris Christie is that, in their opinion, Chris Christie is not enough of a moon bat loony bird to lead the new teabag Republican party through a presidential election cycle. He is not, in their opinion, odious and disgusting enough to be a successful Republican these days. Obama Mocks Accidental Truth By Republican Stutzman
"Indiana GOP Rep. Marlin Stutzman said he wanted respect in the budget standoff. Instead, he got ridicule from President Barack Obama and Senate Democrats. Stutzman is being mocked for saying Republicans should get something from the budget standoff — but he doesn't know what that is. The tea party-backed lawmaker told the Washington Examiner on Wednesday: "We're not going to be disrespected. We have to get something out of this. And I don't know what that even is."
