KSDK, channel 5, is an NBC-affiliated television station in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. KSDK is owned and operated by Gannett Company, and the station's transmitter is located in Shrewsbury, Missouri. The station broadcasts a digital signal on UHF channel 35, using its former analog channel assignment of channel 5 as its virtual digital channel via PSIP. KSDK also carries The Local AccuWeather Channel (branded as "NewsChannel 5 Weather PLUS") on digital subchannel 5.2 and Charter Communications digital cable channel 127.

KSDK produces and airs about 35 hours of local news and other local programming per week, all in high-definition and streamed live online on KSDK's website. The station broadcasts in stereo and broadcasts a Secondary Audio Program (SAP) channel that is used mainly for Descriptive Video Service (DVS).

KSDK's digital signal on UHF channel 35 is multiplexed:

As part of the analog television shutdown and digital conversion, KSDK shut down its analog transmitter on June 12, 2009, and continued to broadcast on its pre-transition digital channel 35. However, through the use of PSIP, digital television receivers display the station's virtual channel as 5.

Karen Foss, born Karen Colleen Graham in Kansas City, Missouri on February 2, 1944, was a television anchorwoman on KSDK in St. Louis, Missouri from 1979 until December 28, 2006. Foss won six Emmys, two for best anchor, named media personality of the year, and acquired the highest “Q” rating as the best-known news reader in the local market. In 2005, she was inducted into the Silver Circle by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for her 25 years of journalistic excellence by the NATAS Mid-America Chapter. Before her work at KSDK, she began her television career at KCMO-TV (now KCTV), in Kansas City, Missouri. [1]

Foss was named vice president for public relations for the utility Ameren on February 21, 2007.

On Monday, December 18, 2006, Karen Foss announced her retirement from KSDK. Her last day on-air aired on Thursday, December 28, 2006. She has served St. Louis anchoring the news for 27 years. Foss says her own research indicates that she has been the oldest woman anchoring the 10 p.m. news at any TV station in the country. "I'm very proud of that," she said. Mayor Francis Slay officially made December 28, 2006, as "Karen Foss Day" in St. Louis.

Benjamin "Bob" Clark (August 5, 1939 – April 4, 2007) was an American actor, director, screenwriter and producer best known for directing and writing the script with Jean Shepherd to the 1983 Christmas film A Christmas Story. Although he worked primarily in the United States, from 1973 to 1983 he worked in Canada and was responsible for some of most successful films in Canadian history such as Black Christmas (1974), Murder by Decree (1979), Tribute (1980), and Porky's (1982).

Clark was born in New Orleans, but grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and later moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He grew up poor, as his father died during his childhood and his mother was a barmaid. After attending Catawba College majoring in philosophy, Clark won a football scholarship to Hillsdale College in Michigan, where he played quarterback. Eventually he studied theater at the University of Miami, turning down offers to play professional football. He did briefly play semi-pro for the Fort Lauderdale Black Knights.

The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History is a 1978 book by Michael H. Hart, reprinted in 1992 with revisions. It is a ranking of the 100 people who, according to Hart, most influenced human history.

The first person on Hart's list is the Prophet of Islam Muhammad. Hart asserted that Muhammad was "supremely successful" in both the religious and secular realms. He also believed that Muhammad's role in the development of Islam was far more influential than Jesus' collaboration in the development of Christianity. He attributes the development of Christianity to St. Paul, who played a pivotal role in its dissemination."

The 1992 revisions included the demotion of figures associated with Communism, such as Vladimir Lenin and Mao Zedong, and the introduction of Mikhail Gorbachev. Hart took sides in the Shakespearean authorship issue and substituted Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford for William Shakespeare. Hart also substituted Niels Bohr and Henri Becquerel with Ernest Rutherford, thus correcting an error in the first edition. Henry Ford was also promoted from the "Honorary Mentions" list, replacing Pablo Picasso. Finally, some of the rankings were re-ordered, although no one listed in the top ten changed position.

The Reverend Robert Eugene Richards, known as Bob Richards (born February 20, 1926, in Champaign, Illinois), known as the "Vaulting Vicar" or the "Pole Vaulting Parson" in his competitive days, was a versatile athlete who made three Olympic teams in two events. He competed in the 1948, 1952, and 1956 Summer Olympics as a pole vaulter, and also was a decathlete in 1956.

He was the second man to pole vault 15 ft (4.6 m), and is the only two-time Olympic gold medal winner in the pole vault (1952 and 1956), with a bronze medal in 1948. He also was 13th in the 1956 decathlon. While a student at the University of Illinois, Richards tied for the national collegiate pole vault title and followed that with 20 national Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) titles, including 17 in the pole vault and three in the decathlon.

Richards later became involved in promoting physical fitness and continued to vault in his later years. He was the first athlete to appear on the front of Wheaties cereal boxes in 1958 (though not the first depicted on all parts of the packaging), and also was the first Wheaties spokesman, setting up the Wheaties Sports Federation, which encouraged participation in Olympic sports.
