Kongsberg Norway - City Tour & Drone, 4k
The town of Kongsberg is comfortably located among the mountains of the picturesque Norwegian region of Buskerud, on the banks of the turbulent Numedalslågen River.
The town was originally called Konningsberg, meaning "King's Mountain", and was founded in 1624 by King Christian IV for ore mining. Kongsberg Silver Mines (Kongsberg Sølvverk) is Norway's oldest and most famous mining company.
Mining stopped only in 1957, and during that time about 1,350 tons of silver were mined. In 1770, about four thousand people worked in the mines, that is, then Kongsberg was the second most populous city in Norway after Bergen.
Also in 1686, a mint was established in Kongsberg, which to this day is the only enterprise minting Norwegian coins.
Later, after the decline in silver mining and the devastat...

Kongsberg, Norway by drone - My hometown - DJI Mavic 2 Pro
We start slightly south of Kongsberg and follow the river Numedalslågen up to the town itself. We fly around and see some historic buildings and more. This is my hometown, centrally located in South-Eastern Norway. The town was founded in 1624 after the discovery of silver. Many German miners came. They had the expertise, but many also fled from the thirty-year war that ravaged Europe. Many names in the area testify to strong German influence. Today, Kongsberg is a city with many high-tech companies in defense, aviation, oil and gas.

Norwegian M1914 Kongsberg Colt
After a series of pistol trials, Norway adopted a copy of the Colt 1911 in .45 ACP as its standard service pistol in 1914. A license was purchased from FN (while under German occupation, interestingly) to produce the guns locally at Kongsberg, and production ran slowly and sporadically until German occupation in WWII. At that point, the German military decided to continue production for German use (still in .45 ACP, the only pistol in that caliber formally used by the German military).
The Norwegian m/1914 pistols are mechanically identical to the Colt 1911 with the exception of an extended slide release lever. They are also serial numbered on all major parts, unlike US pistols.

Kongsberg NSM anti-ship missile test
Video by Norway's Kongsberg of a flight test of its Naval Strike Missile (NSM), basis of teh Joint Strike Missile under development for the F-35 JSF. Here the fire-and-forget missile is launched from land at the Pt Mugu, Calif., test range and is filmed by a chase aircraft as sea-slims a few feet above the Pacific, flying over an island to acquire and attack a target ship on the otther side. Kongsberg says this mission profile gave the NSM's imaging-infrared seeker just 1.5 seconds to acquire and identify the ship as its pre-programmed target.

Also in 1686, a mint was established in Kongsberg, which to this day is the only enterprise minting Norwegian coins.
Later, after the decline in silver mining and the devastating fire of 1810, in 1814 the government decided to locate the arms industry in Kongsberg, which is still the main enterprise in the city.
And just outside the city, there is a ski resort. Here you can ski on 10 slopes with a total length of about 10 kilometers. Also at the foot, there are 55 kilometers of prepared trails for cross-country skiing.
We went for a walk into the city before Catholic Christmas. By the way, December 19th was the winter solstice, that is, the shortest daylight hours! Which greatly limited our shooting time, but at the same time gave the film a nice warm tone even in the middle of the day!
The city is located on two banks of Norway's second-largest river, Numedalslågen. And every time we crossed the bridge, we admired the stormy streams bursting out from under the openwork ice with a roar. Within the city limits, there are 3 waterfalls on the river, one of which has a hydroelectric power station (Gamlebrofoss kraftverk). Its height is 14 meters and construction was completed in 1971.
Also walking along the river bank, we came across beautiful sculptures: the Glass Tree (Glasstreet av Vincent van Leeuwen) and the Mirror Church (Glasskirken) in winter they have a special magic and fit perfectly into the frozen nature.
The bright spot of the city is the Clarion Collection Hotel Kongsberg, built in 2022, as well as a shopping center and apartment buildings. Kongsberg railway station has been in operation since 1871 and from here you can take a direct train to Oslo in 1 hour and 20 minutes!
And in this video, we invite you to spend one winter day with us in the city of Kongsberg. We hope you enjoy the video because, despite the cold, frozen hands and batteries, we tried very hard to show you different angles of this cozy town.
Thank you very much for traveling with Us! Feel free to ask your questions and write your wishes in the comments, we are always pleased to read them! ;)
