Mobarez tank
Mobarez (Persian: مبارز) meaning "Duellist" is a domestically produced upgraded version of the British Chieftain tank by Iran.
Changes
The chassis of the tank is changed in back and sides. The fuel tank is replaced by a new repairable one. The gear box is changed so the tank can have 360 degrees turret turn. Also additional anti shock systems are added to protect the internal sensitive electronic tools. A laser targeting system was also added to the tank. The engine is replaced by a more powerful one. And also night vision and infra-red systems are added.

This MBT was named after Ali, the first Shiite Imam, and his legendary sword. Brigadier General Mir-Younes Masoumzadeh, the armed forces' deputy ground force commander for research and self-sufficiency in the early 1980s, is widely credited with inventing this tank.
Tank battles occurred during the Iran-Iraq war, allowing post-revolutionary Iranian armored divisions to put their skills to the test against a diverse range of Iraqi tanks (mostly Soviet-built or Chinese-built models), as well as Western models from before the 1979 revolution (mostly American and British) and from the Soviet Union after that date. The Chieftain (now Mobarez), M47, M60, T-54/55 and Type 59 (now modernized under the T-72Z program), T-62, and T-69 were the current MBTs involved in these actions.
T-72S (partially built locally) were acquired after the war in 1993. The armed forces' self-sufficiency allowed them to test and select the best foreign technologies for the first true 100% local tank design, which also incorporates the entire Iran/Iraq war experience.
The 1993 (1st series) was a 2nd generation MBT, according to the majority of experts. Lieutenant General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani announced in 1997 that mass production of Zulfiqar tanks, which began in 1996, was in progress, and in late July 1997, Iranian President Hashemi Rafsanjani formally inaugurated the Shahid Kolah Dooz Industrial Complex, which was in charge of Zulfiqar and Boragh APC. In the meantime, the second version was developed as a testbed in the 2000s, and the third version was officially announced in February 2013 (up to a 3rd generation standard MBT).
The first prototype was created in 1994, and production lines were established in the martyrs' industrial complex in the summer of 1998. and has been in service with the Iranian armed forces since 1999.
The armament is based on a locally produced Soviet-built 125 mm smoothbore cannon from the T-72S. The gun is fully stabilized and can fire while moving. The Fire Control System appeared to be based on a Slovenian model, as were the suspension systems and roadwheels. According to the Ministry of Defense's official website, T-72 modern FCS equipment and 125 mm ammunition are now produced in Iran as well. According to estimates, approximately 100 Zulfiqars were in service in 2010.
The majority of what experts know comes from comparing photos and cross-referencing a few official statements. Both the Osorio and the Abrams appeared to have been considered as potential inspirations and bore some resemblance to the Zulfiqar. Observations also revealed roadwheels and suspensions from the M60, as well as a gun from the T-72S or Zafir-74 MBT.

Chieftain was supplied to at least 6 countries, including Iran, Kuwait, Oman and Jordan.
An agreement for sales to Israel and local production was cancelled by the British Government in 1969, despite considerable Israeli technical and tactical input into the development of the tank, especially the capacity to operate successfully in desert environments, and the provision for the tank to make good use of hull-down positioning.
2 examples were delivered to and extensively trialled by the Israeli Armoured Corps. This experience spurred the creation of the indigenous Israeli Merkava, the development programme of which was led by General Israel Tal, who had worked closely with the British in the Anglo-Israeli Chieftain project.
The largest foreign sale was to Iran, which, at the recommendation of General Tal, took delivery of 707 Mk-3P and Mk-5P (the letter P standing for Persia), as well as 187x FV4030-1, 41 ARV and 14 AVLB before the 1979 revolution.
Further planned deliveries of the more capable FV4030-2 ( Shir 1 ) and FV4030-3 ( Shir 2 ) series were cancelled at that point.
It was in the Middle East that the Chieftain was to see all of its operational experience.
First, it was used extensively by Iran during the Iran–Iraq War of 1980–88, including the largest tank battle of the war, with mixed results as the Chieftain Mk 3/5 suffered from chronic engine problems and low power-to-weight ratio, making the Chieftain unreliable and slow when manoeuvring over harsh terrain, which in turn made it prone to breakdowns in the midst of battle or a sluggish target and thus vulnerable to enemy tank fire.
The Chieftain remains in service in Iran, the Mobarez tank being a locally upgraded version.
Kuwait and the Battle of the Bridges
Kuwait had 143 Chieftains on the eve of the 1990 Iraqi Invasion of Kuwait.
37 Chieftains of the Kuwaiti 35th Armored Brigade fought at the Battle of the Bridges against elements of the Iraqi Hammurabi and Medina divisions before withdrawing over the Saudi border.
None of the brigade's tanks were lost in the battle, and the 35th Armored Brigade ( known as Al-Fatah ) became part of Joint Command Forces East during the 1991 Gulf War and was able to return into Kuwait undefeated.
The rest of the Kuwaiti Chieftains were either destroyed or captured. After the liberation of Kuwait, the ageing Chieftains were replaced by the Yugoslav.

The Karrar (Striker in English) main battle tank (MBT) is a locally developed combat vehicle developed by Iran's Defense Industries Organization (DIO).
The Karrar is essentially a clone of the Russian-designed T-90S MBT and is said to be far more advanced than the Zulfiqar, which was named after the sword of Hazrat Ali, the first religious, spiritual, and political Shia leader. It was designed by Iranian Army Brigadier General Mir-Younes Masoumazadeh and is based on the American M48 and M60 tanks as well as the Soviet T-72 tank.
In 2016, Russia's Uralvagonzavod announced that once technical cooperation restrictions were lifted, Iran would be able to license-build the T-90S main battle tank (MBT). What's more, the Russian military firm stated that it will assist the Islamic Republic's Army in modernizing its existing T-72 fleet.
Even so, even four years ago, Tehran had other plans, including the construction of its own tanks without the assistance of Moscow. That appears to have finally happened.
Brigadier General Kiomars Heidari, Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Forces, stated on Iranian state television that the Defense Ministry and the Armed Forces had collaborated to develop a domestically-built T-90 MBT, which is currently undergoing final testing before being delivered to the Army Ground Force.
In August 2016, the main battle tank was first shown to the public. In March 2017, the Iranian Defense Ministry opened the Karrar MBT production line at the Bani-Hashem Armor Industrial Complex to facilitate mass production of the vehicles.
The Iranian Army put the tank through rigorous testing before declaring it combat-ready in November 2017. MBT deliveries are expected to begin in 2018.
The Karrar battle tank is strikingly similar to Russia's T-90MS battle tank. The hull is divided into three sections, with the driver's cab in the front, the turret in the middle, and the power pack in the back.
The vehicle is outfitted with a laser rangefinder that allows it to track targets with pinpoint accuracy. It has a sophisticated battlefield management system (BMS) that is supported by digital panels installed inside the hull. The BMS combines information from sensor systems, other tanks, and digital maps.

Mobarez (Persian: مبارز; meaning "Warrior") is a domestically upgraded version of the British Chieftain tank by Iran.
The hull of the tank has been modified at the back and sides. The fuel tank has been replaced by a new, repairable one.
Also, additional vibration dampening systems have been added to protect sensitive electronic components.
Other modifications include a laser range finder, a more powerful engine and the addition of light amplifying and infra-red systems.

This MBT was named after Ali, the first Shiite Imam, and his legendary sword. Brigadier General Mir-Younes Masoumzadeh, the armed forces' deputy ground force commander for research and self-sufficiency in the early 1980s, is widely credited with inventing this tank.
Tank battles occurred during the Iran-Iraq war, allowing post-revolutionary Iranian armored divisions to put their skills to the test against a diverse range of Iraqi tanks (mostly Soviet-built or Chinese-built models), as well as Western models from before the 1979 revolution (mostly American and British) and from the Soviet Union after that date. The Chieftain (now Mobarez), M47, M60, T-54/55 and Type 59 (now modernized under the T-72Z program), T-62, and T-69 were the current MBTs involved in these actions.
T-72S (partially built locally) were acquired after the war in 1993. The armed forces' self-sufficiency allowed them to test and select the best foreign technologies for the first true 100% local tank design, which also incorporates the entire Iran/Iraq war experience.
The 1993 (1st series) was a 2nd generation MBT, according to the majority of experts. Lieutenant General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani announced in 1997 that mass production of Zulfiqar tanks, which began in 1996, was in progress, and in late July 1997, Iranian President Hashemi Rafsanjani formally inaugurated the Shahid Kolah Dooz Industrial Complex, which was in charge of Zulfiqar and Boragh APC. In the meantime, the second version was developed as a testbed in the 2000s, and the third version was officially announced in February 2013 (up to a 3rd generation standard MBT).
The first prototype was created in 1994, and production lines were established in the martyrs' industrial complex in the summer of 1998. and has been in service with the Iranian armed forces since 1999.
The armament is based on a locally produced Soviet-built 125 mm smoothbore cannon from the T-72S. The gun is fully stabilized and can fire while moving. The Fire Control System appeared to be based on a Slovenian model, as were the suspension systems and roadwheels. According to the Ministry of Defense's official website, T-72 modern FCS equipment and 125 mm ammunition are now produced in Iran as well. According to estimates, approximately 100 Zulfiqars were in service in 2010.
The majority of what experts know comes from comparing photos and cross-referencing a few official statements. Both the Osorio and the Abrams appeared to have been considered as potential inspirations and bore some resemblance to the Zulfiqar. Observations also revealed roadwheels and suspensions from the M60, as well as a gun from the T-72S or Zafir-74 MBT.

Chieftain was the main battle tank of the United Kingdom during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. It was the "most formidable main battle tank in the world" at the time of its introduction in 1966 with the most powerful main gun and most effective armour of any tank yet made.
This was further improved while in service with Chobham armour upgrades.

The first model was introduced in 1967.
Chieftain was supplied to at least 6 countries, including Iran, Kuwait, Oman and Jordan.
An agreement for sales to Israel and local production was cancelled by the British Government in 1969, despite considerable Israeli technical and tactical input into the development of the tank, especially the capacity to operate successfully in desert environments, and the provision for the tank to make good use of hull-down positioning.
2 examples were delivered to and extensively trialled by the Israeli Armoured Corps. This experience spurred the creation of the indigenous Israeli Merkava, the development programme of which was led by General Israel Tal, who had worked closely with the British in the Anglo-Israeli Chieftain project.
The largest foreign sale was to Iran, which, at the recommendation of General Tal, took delivery of 707 Mk-3P and Mk-5P (the letter P standing for Persia), as well as 187x FV4030-1, 41 ARV and 14 AVLB before the 1979 revolution.
Further planned deliveries of the more capable FV4030-2 ( Shir 1 ) and FV4030-3 ( Shir 2 ) series were cancelled at that point.
It was in the Middle East that the Chieftain was to see all of its operational experience.
First, it was used extensively by Iran during the Iran–Iraq War of 1980–88, including the largest tank battle of the war, with mixed results as the Chieftain Mk 3/5 suffered from chronic engine problems and low power-to-weight ratio, making the Chieftain unreliable and slow when manoeuvring over harsh terrain, which in turn made it prone to breakdowns in the midst of battle or a sluggish target and thus vulnerable to enemy tank fire.
The Chieftain remains in service in Iran, the Mobarez tank being a locally upgraded version.
Kuwait and the Battle of the Bridges
Kuwait had 143 Chieftains on the eve of the 1990 Iraqi Invasion of Kuwait.
37 Chieftains of the Kuwaiti 35th Armored Brigade fought at the Battle of the Bridges against elements of the Iraqi Hammurabi and Medina divisions before withdrawing over the Saudi border.
None of the brigade's tanks were lost in the battle, and the 35th Armored Brigade ( known as Al-Fatah ) became part of Joint Command Forces East during the 1991 Gulf War and was able to return into Kuwait undefeated.
The rest of the Kuwaiti Chieftains were either destroyed or captured. After the liberation of Kuwait, the ageing Chieftains were replaced by the Yugoslav.

The Karrar (Striker in English) main battle tank (MBT) is a locally developed combat vehicle developed by Iran's Defense Industries Organization (DIO).
The Karrar is essentially a clone of the Russian-designed T-90S MBT and is said to be far more advanced than the Zulfiqar, which was named after the sword of Hazrat Ali, the first religious, spiritual, and political Shia leader. It was designed by Iranian Army Brigadier General Mir-Younes Masoumazadeh and is based on the American M48 and M60 tanks as well as the Soviet T-72 tank.
In 2016, Russia's Uralvagonzavod announced that once technical cooperation restrictions were lifted, Iran would be able to license-build the T-90S main battle tank (MBT). What's more, the Russian military firm stated that it will assist the Islamic Republic's Army in modernizing its existing T-72 fleet.
Even so, even four years ago, Tehran had other plans, including the construction of its own tanks without the assistance of Moscow. That appears to have finally happened.
Brigadier General Kiomars Heidari, Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Forces, stated on Iranian state television that the Defense Ministry and the Armed Forces had collaborated to develop a domestically-built T-90 MBT, which is currently undergoing final testing before being delivered to the Army Ground Force.
In August 2016, the main battle tank was first shown to the public. In March 2017, the Iranian Defense Ministry opened the Karrar MBT production line at the Bani-Hashem Armor Industrial Complex to facilitate mass production of the vehicles.
The Iranian Army put the tank through rigorous testing before declaring it combat-ready in November 2017. MBT deliveries are expected to begin in 2018.
The Karrar battle tank is strikingly similar to Russia's T-90MS battle tank. The hull is divided into three sections, with the driver's cab in the front, the turret in the middle, and the power pack in the back.
The vehicle is outfitted with a laser rangefinder that allows it to track targets with pinpoint accuracy. It has a sophisticated battlefield management system (BMS) that is supported by digital panels installed inside the hull. The BMS combines information from sensor systems, other tanks, and digital maps.

Mobarez (Persian: مبارز) meaning "Duellist" is a domestically produced upgraded version of the British Chieftain tank by Iran.
Changes
The chassis of the tank is changed in back and sides. The fuel tank is replaced by a new repairable one. The gear box is changed so the tank can have 360 degrees turret turn. Also additional anti shock systems are added to protect the internal sensitive electronic tools. A laser targeting system was also added to the tank. The engine is replaced by a more powerful one. And also night vision and infra-red systems are added.
