FC Eintracht Norderstedt 03 is a German football club based in Norderstedt, Schleswig-Holstein, currently playing in the Oberliga Hamburg (V).

History

The team was founded in 1945 as SV Eintracht Garstedt, which joined 1. SC Norderstedt in 1972. 1. SC was established just two years earlier on 7 January 1970 as Tanzportverein Norderstedt. The football department split from the club in 2003 to create FC Eintracht Norderstedt 03.

Playing as 1. SC, the footballers were part of the Amateuroberliga Nord (III) for seven seasons from 1987–1994. They finished second there in 1993 and took part in the promotion round for the 2. Bundesliga where they performed poorly. The following season they crashed out of Amateuroberliga play after a 15th place result. The team rebounded, earning a second place result in the Oberliga Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein (IV), and the following year joined the new Regionalliga Nord (III). 1. SC faced relegation after ending the 1997–98 season in 16th, but escaped demotion due to the withdrawal of VfL Hamburg 93. They played two more seasons as a mid-table side in the Regionalliga, before again becoming part of the Oberliga Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein (IV) following league reorganization. Despite a strong 3rd place finish in 2002, they withdrew to Bezirksliga (VI) play, and slipped to Kreisliga (VII) competition the next year.

Norderstedt

Norderstedt is a city in Germany and part of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region (Metropolregion Hamburg), the fifth largest city (with approximately 75,000 inhabitants) in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein, belonging to the district (Kreis) Segeberg.

History

Norderstedt was created by the merger of four towns on 1 January 1970: the towns of Friedrichsgabe and Garstedt, both belonging to the district Pinneberg, and the towns of Glashütte and Harksheide, both belonging to the district Stormarn. The newly created city was assigned to the district Segeberg.

Location

The city hall of Norderstedt is located at 53°42′29″N 9°59′37″E / 53.70806°N 9.99361°E / 53.70806; 9.99361. Norderstedt is the southernmost city of district Segeberg, bordering in the southeast on Hamburg and part of Hamburg agglomeration.

Transportation and Logistics

Norderstedt is served by the Autobahn (federal motorway) A7/E45 via exit number 21 Hamburg-Schnelsen-Nord (Norderstedt-Süd), located on Hamburg territory, in the south, and exit number 23 Quickborn in the north. Major thoroughfares are the Bundesstrassen (federal highways) B432 in west-east and B433 in north-south directions.

St. Pauli

St. Pauli (Sankt Pauli; German pronunciation: [ˌzaŋkt ˈpaʊli]), located in the Hamburg-Mitte borough, is one of the 105 quarters of the city of Hamburg, Germany. Situated on the right bank of the Elbe river, the Landungsbrücken are a northern part of the port of Hamburg. St. Pauli contains a world famous red light district around the street Reeperbahn. In 2006 the population was 27,612.

History

At the beginning of the 17th century it developed as a suburb called 'Hamburger Berg' (Hamburg mountain) outside the gates of the nearby city of Hamburg and close to the city of Altona. The name comes from a hill in that area that was planned by Hamburg in 1620 for defence reasons (free field of fire for the artillery). Therefore, settlement was initially allowed there, but soon businesses, which were not desired inside neither Hamburg nor Altona, e.g. for their smell or noise, were relegated to 'Hamburger Berg'. Also the rope makers (or 'Reeper' in Low German) went here because in the city it was hard to find enough space for their work. The name of St. Pauli's most famous street Reeperbahn, or "Rope Walk," harkens back to its rope making past. When people were officially allowed to live in St. Pauli at the end of the 17th century the city government moved workhouses and (pestilence) hospitals out of the city to 'Hamburger Berg,' which later was named after its still existing church, 'St. Pauli' (Saint Paul). St. Pauli was mainly used by Sailors for entertainment during their stay in Hamburg and Altona. To this day it is known as the sinful mile, combining the upper and common standards of entertainment, from musicals, theatres, to bars and clubs, as well as the most known red light district.

FC St. Pauli

Fußball-Club St Pauli von 1910 e.V., commonly known as simply FC St Pauli, is a German sports club based in the St. Pauli quarter of Hamburg.

The football department is part of a larger sports club that also has departments in rugby (FC St. Pauli Rugby), baseball, bowling, boxing (FC St. Pauli Boxen),chess, cycling, handball, roller derby (Harbour Girls Hamburg),skittles, softball and table tennis. Until the end of 2013 the club also had a department in American Football, but it was dissovoled because it lacked the youth team required in order to hold a men's team. FC St. Pauli has 22,000 members as of 1 July 2015.

The men's professional football team dropped down to the Regionalliga in 2003, at that time the third highest football division in Germany and remained there for four years. In 2007, they won promotion back to the 2. Bundesliga and in 2010, they were promoted to the Bundesliga. Since the 2011–12 season, they have played in 2. Bundesliga, which is the second highest division in Germany.
