THERE is enough evidence to charge four NSW police officers involved in the death of Brazilian student Roberto Laudisio Curti, the Police Integrity Commission says.

Mr Curti died in the early hours of March 18 last year after officers tasered him 14 times, used capsicum spray, handcuffs and a baton and knelt on him after a chase in Sydney's CBD.

His death was the subject of Operation Anafi, an investigation into whether NSW police engaged in serious police misconduct or criminal conduct in the pursuit and restraint of the 20-year-old.

The Police Integrity Commission referred evidence to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions recommending that consideration should be given to prosecuting a number of police officers.

The commission on Friday said it had been advised by the DPP there is sufficient evidence to charge four officers.

Senior Constable Eric Lim could be charged with common assault, Senior Constable Scott Edmondson with assault occasioning actual bodily harm or alternatively common assault, Constable Daniel Barling with assault occasioning actual bodily harm or alternatively common assault and Senior Constable Damien Ralph with common assault.

Mr Curti's death has already been the subject of a number of inquiries.

In a coronial inquest, Magistrate Mary Jerram found the officers had acted "thuggishly'' and rejected some of their evidence.

NSW Ombudsman Bruce Barbour's report meanwhile criticised the police investigation because it failed to deal with the issue of police misconduct.

In May, Police Minister Mike Gallacher rejected calls for the officers involved to be suspended, saying there had not yet been a recommendation from the DPP that they be charged.
