Masaka District is a district in Central Uganda. Its main town is Masaka, whose estimated population in 2011 was 74,100.

The district is bordered by Bukomansimbi District to the northwest, Kalungu District to the north, Kalangala District to the east and south, Rakai District to the southwest and Lwengo District to the west.Masaka, where the district headquarters are located, lies approximately 140 kilometres (87 mi), by road, southwest of Kampala on the highway to Mbarara. The coordinates of the district are:00 30S, 31 45E. The average altitude of the district is 1,115 metres (3,658 ft) above sea level.

Masaka District was established in the 1900s comprising what were the Buganda Kingdom counties of Buddu, Kooki, Kabula kalangaql and Mawogola. Initially, Kooki and Kabula were peeled off to form Rakai District. Later, the northern part of Rakai District was removed to form Lyantonde District. In 1997, Mawogola County was split from Buddu and was named Sembabule District. Buddu remained as Masaka District and kalangala.

Masaka is a town in Central Uganda, lying west of Lake Victoria. It is the chief town of Masaka District. Besides being the headquarters of Masaka District, the town is the regional headquarters and largest metropolitan area in Lyantonde District, Sembabule District, Lwengo District, Bukomansimbi District, Kalungu District, Masaka District, Rakai District, and Kalangala District.

Masaka lies approximately 140 kilometres (87 mi) to the southwest of Kampala, on the highway to Mbarara. The town lies very close to the Equator, as can be seen from the latitude values. It was Uganda's second-biggest town for a long time. Today this status has changed, as the city was largely destroyed in the Uganda-Tanzania War of 1979 and again in the 1981-1986 civil war that removed Obote from power for the last time.

According to the 2002 national census, the population of Masaka was about 67,800. In 2010, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), estimated the population of the town at 73,300. In 2011, UBOS estimated the mid-year population of Masaka at 74,100.

The Sacred Heart (also known as Most Sacred Heart of Jesus) is one of the most famous religious devotions to Jesus' physical heart as the representation of his divine love for humanity.

This devotion is predominantly used in the Catholic Church and among some high-church Anglicans and Lutherans. The devotion especially emphasizes the unmitigated love, compassion, and long-suffering of the heart of Christ towards humanity. The origin of this devotion in its modern form is derived from a French Roman Catholic nun, Marguerite Marie Alacoque, who said she learned the devotion from Jesus during a mystical experience. Predecessors to the modern devotion arose unmistakably in the Middle Ages in various facets of Catholic mysticism.

In the Roman Catholic tradition, the Sacred Heart has been closely associated with Acts of Reparation to Jesus Christ. In his encyclical Miserentissimus Redemptor, Pope Pius XI stated: "the spirit of expiation or reparation has always had the first and foremost place in the worship given to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus". The Golden Arrow Prayer directly refers to the Sacred Heart.
