Chinese literature extends thousands of years, from the earliest recorded dynastic court archives to the mature fictional novels that arose during the Ming Dynasty to entertain the masses of literate Chinese. The introduction of widespread woodblock printing during the Tang Dynasty (618–907) and the invention of movable type printing by Bi Sheng (990–1051) during the Song Dynasty (960–1279) rapidly spread written knowledge throughout China. In more modern times, the author Lu Xun (1881–1936) is considered the founder of baihua literature in China.

There is a wealth of early Chinese literature dating from the Hundred Schools of Thought that occurred during the Eastern Zhou Dynasty (770-256 BCE). The most important of these include the Classics of Confucianism, of Daoism, of Mohism, of Legalism, as well as works of military science and Chinese history. Note that except for the books of poems and songs, most of this literature is philosophical and didactic; there is little in the way of fiction. However, these texts maintained their significance through both their ideas and their prose style.

Chris Tong Bing Yu (Chinese: 童冰玉; pinyin: Tóng Bīngyù; born 14 June 1983) is a Malaysian actress.

Chris Tong started her showbiz career in 2006, and has since sang, acted, hosted and deejayed.

Tong first appeared in a Mediacorp drama, a Singapore-Malaysia co-production, Welcome Home, My Love in 2009. She also acted in the Malaysian drama, The Adjusters, opposite singer-actor Rynn Lim. In 2010, she was one of the lead actors in another Singapore-Malaysia co-production, Family Court.

In an interview for the Family Court, Tong did not answer whether she will sign on with Mediacorp.

Lu Xun (simplified Chinese: 鲁迅; traditional Chinese: 魯迅; pinyin: Lǔ Xùn) or Lu Hsün (Wade-Giles), was the pen name of Zhou Shuren (simplified Chinese: 周树人; traditional Chinese: 周樹人; pinyin: Zhōu Shùrén; Wade–Giles: Chou Shu-jen) (September 25, 1881 – October 19, 1936), one of the major Chinese writers of the 20th century. Considered by many to be the leading figure of modern Chinese literature, he wrote in baihua (白話) (the vernacular) as well as classical Chinese. Lu Xun was a short story writer, editor, translator, critic, essayist and poet. In the 1930s he became the titular head of the Chinese League of the Left-Wing Writers in Shanghai.

Lu Xun's works exerted a very substantial influence after the May Fourth Movement to such a point that he was highly acclaimed by the Communist regime after 1949. Mao Zedong himself was a lifelong admirer of Lu Xun's works. Though sympathetic to the ideals of the Left, Lu Xun never actually joined the Chinese Communist Party. Like many leaders of the May Fourth Movement, he was primarily a liberal.

Mo Yan (Chinese: 莫言; pinyin: Mò Yán) (born February 17, 1955) is a modern Chinese author, described as "one of the most famous, oft-banned and widely pirated of all Chinese writers". He is known in the West for two of his novels which were the basis of the film Red Sorghum. He has been referred to as the Chinese answer to Franz Kafka or Joseph Heller. He is currently represented by the Hong Kong based Peony Literary Agency

His works have been translated into more than a dozen languages, including English, German, French and Norwegian.

Mo Yan was born in the Shandong province to a family of farmers. He left school during the Cultural Revolution to work in a factory that produced oil. He joined the People's Liberation Army at age twenty, and began writing while he was still a soldier, in 1981. Three years later, he was given a teaching position at the Department of Literature in the Army's Cultural Academy.

"Mo Yan", meaning "don't speak" in Chinese, is a pen name. His real name is Guan Moye (simplified Chinese: 管谟业; traditional Chinese: 管謨業; pinyin: Guǎn Móyè). In a public speech delivered in Open University of Hong Kong (broadcasted in ATV International, 2008-12-28 11:00), he said this pen name was chosen when he wrote his first novel. He was well known since he was small to be a frank person in speech, which was not quite welcomed in Mainland China. Therefore, he chose this pen name to remind himself not to speak too much.

Marjorie Yang Mun-tak (Traditional Chinese: 楊敏德; born 1952, Hong Kong) is a non-official member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong.

She is Chairwoman of the Esquel Group, the world's biggest cotton shirt-maker, which was founded by her father in 1978, as well as independent non-executive director of HSBC, Swire Pacific and Novartis AG. She is a Hong Kong Member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Marjorie Yang is vice-chairman of the Asia Business Council. Fortune magazine has ranked Marjorie Yang 39th on its annual ranking of international 50 most powerful businesswomen in the world in 2009. Marjorie ranked 41 on Fortune’s list in 2005, 44 in 2004 and 48 in 2000.

Yang earned a B.Sc. degree in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. degree from Harvard Business School. Her first career, after graduation, was in investment banking at First Boston. In 1995, after her father, Yang Yuan-loong, was diagnosed with cancer, she returned to take the helm of Esquel.
