Hoima District is a district in Western Uganda. Like most other Ugandan districts, it is named after its main municipal centre, Hoima.

Hoima District is bordered by Buliisa District to the north, Masindi District to the northeast, Kyankwanzi District in the east, Kibaale District to the south, Ntoroko District to the southwest and the Democratic Republic of the Congo across Lake Albert to the west.Hoima, the location of the district headquarters, is located approximately 230 kilometres (140 mi), by road, northwest of Kampala, the capital of Uganda and the largest city in that country. The coordinates of the district are:01 24N, 31 18E.

Hoima District, Buliisa District, Kibaale District, Kiryandongo District and Masindi District, constitute Bunyoro sub-region, which is coterminous with the Kingdom of Bunyoro. The palace of the Omukama of Bunyoro is located in Hoima.

In 2002, the national census estimated the population of Hoima District at bout 343,600, with an annual population growth rate of 2.8%. It is estimated that in 2010, the population of Hoima District was approximately 428,500. See table below:

Hoima is a town in Western Uganda. It is main municipal, administrative and commercial center of Hoima District in Uganda. It is also the location of the palace of the Omukama of Bunyoro.

Hoima is located approximately 225 kilometres (140 mi), by road, northwest of Kampala, Uganda's largest city, on an all-weather tarmac highway. The coordinates of the town are: 01 25 55N, 31 21 09E.

The 2002 national census estimated the population of Hoima at 27,934. In 2010 the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), estimated the population of the town at 40,600. In 2011, UBOS estimates the population of Hoima at apprroximately 42,600.

Between 2000 and 2009, a considerable amount of oil deposits, estimated at between 2 billion to 2.5 billion barrels have been discovered in Lake Albert and on the shores of the lake, in Hoima District and neighboring Buliisa District. A mini refinery is planned near Hoima to produce thermal electricity by burning "heavy fuel", a byproduct of the oil refining process. The developers of the oil field have not decided if they will refine the crude oil locally or export it for refining outside Uganda. Nonetheless, Hoima is poised to become a beehive of economic activity, as a result of the discovery of oil in the neighborhood. As a result of the increased economic activity in the area, Hoima has been upgraded to Municipality status, with increased infrastructure to handle the new businesses and new residents. Land prices, rental rates and other real estate costs in Hoima have gone up in the recent past, as demand for real estate in the town and surrounding areas has increased.

Dame Jane Morris Goodall, DBE (born Valerie Jane Morris-Goodall on 3 April 1934) is a British primatologist, ethologist, anthropologist, and UN Messenger of Peace. Considered to be the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees, Goodall is best known for her 45-year study of social and family interactions of wild chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania. She is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and has worked extensively on conservation and animal welfare issues.

Jane Goodall was born in London, England in 1934 to Mortimer Herbert Morris-Goodall, a businessman, and Margaret Myfanwe Joseph, a novelist who wrote under the name Vanne Morris-Goodall. As a child she was given a lifelike chimpanzee toy named Jubilee by her father; her fondness for the toy started her early love of animals. Today, the toy still sits on her dresser in London. As she writes in her book, Reason For Hope: "My mother's friends were horrified by this toy, thinking it would frighten me and give me nightmares." Goodall has a sister, Judith, who shares the same birthday, though the two were born four years apart.
