Tree (graph theory)

In mathematics, and more specifically in graph theory, a tree is an undirected graph in which any two vertices are connected by exactly one path. In other words, any acyclic connected graph is a tree. A forest is a disjoint union of trees.

The various kinds of data structures referred to as trees in computer science have underlying graphs that are trees in graph theory, although such data structures are generally rooted trees. A rooted tree may be directed, called a directed rooted tree, either making all its edges point away from the root—in which case it is called an arborescence,branching, or out-tree—, or making all its edges point towards the root—in which case it is called an anti-arborescence or in-tree. A rooted tree itself has been defined by some authors as a directed graph.

The term "tree" was coined in 1857 by the British mathematician Arthur Cayley.

Root

In vascular plants, the root is the organ of a plant that typically lies below the surface of the soil. However, roots can also be aerial or aerating (growing up above the ground or especially above water). Furthermore, a stem normally occurring below ground is not exceptional either (see rhizome). Therefore, the root is best defined as the non-leaf, non-nodes bearing parts of the plant's body. However, important internal structural differences between stems and roots exist.

The first root that comes from a plant is called the radicle. The four major functions of roots are 1) absorption of water and inorganic nutrients, 2) anchoring of the plant body to the ground, and supporting it, 3) storage of food and nutrients, 4) vegetative reproduction. In response to the concentration of nutrients, roots also synthesise cytokinin, which acts as a signal as to how fast the shoots can grow. Roots often function in storage of food and nutrients. The roots of most vascular plant species enter into symbiosis with certain fungi to form mycorrhizae, and a large range of other organisms including bacteria also closely associate with roots.

Deep Roots

Deep Roots is a Canadian radio program focusing on folk and roots music. The program, hosted by Tom Power, airs on CBC Radio 2 and normally originates from CBN-FM St. John's.

Power, who began the program while still attending Memorial University, is believed to be the youngest regular host of a CBC Radio program since Peter Jennings's tenure as host of Peter's People in 1947 (at the age of nine).

Deep Roots currently airs on CBC Radio 2 throughout Canada on Saturdays at 5:00 p.m. (6:00 AT, 6:30 NT) and Sundays at 5:00 p.m. (5:30 NT). It also airs on the Sirius XM feed of CBC Radio One (channel 169) Sundays at 10:00 p.m. ET and early Thursday mornings at 4:00 a.m. ET.

As well, an abbreviated localized version of the program airs Fridays at 3:30 p.m. NT on Radio One stations in Newfoundland and Labrador. This is because the extended Friday portion of Q is preempted by the local version of Radio Noon at 12:00 NT, but would be out of place if rebroadcast later in the day, as is done for most Radio One programs airing in the 11:30 a.m. (local) timeslot.

Deep Rooted Tree

Deep Rooted Tree (Hangul: 뿌리 깊은 나무; RR: Ppuri Gipeun Namu) is a 2011 South Korean television series starring Jang Hyuk, Shin Se-kyung and Han Suk-kyu. Based on the novel of the same name by Lee Jung-myung, it aired on SBS from October 5 to December 22, 2011 on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 21:55 for 24 episodes.

Taking its name from the poem Yongbieocheonga that says that trees with deep roots do not sway, the series tells the story of a royal guard (played by Jang Hyuk) investigating a case involving the serial murders of Jiphyeonjeon scholars in Gyeongbok Palace while King Sejong (played by Han Suk-kyu, in his TV comeback after 16 years of solely film work) comes to create the Korean written language.

Synopsis

Early in his reign, King Sejong accidentally causes the death of his in-laws and their slaves in an attempt to save them from his brutal father, King Taejong. Two young slaves, Ddol-bok and his friend Dam, survive but neither knows the other has. Ddol-bok blames the king and vows to kill him to avenge the deaths of everyone he loved. He spends several years becoming a great warrior. Dam, who has a photographic memory, becomes a court lady called So-yi (Shin Se-kyung), but she feels so guilty about her role in the other slaves' deaths that she is mute.
