10/9/13 - Glenn Beck shared a story with viewers on Wednesday that he's been keeping close to the vest since before the 2012 election, explaining that he's been waiting for the right time to say what exactly happened, and what it means for the country. It all began, Beck said, in what he believes was late August when he was getting ready to do a number of events with FreedomWorks. "It's about 4:00 in the afternoon and I get a call from the president of FreedomWorks, Matt Kibbe, and I can hear the distress in his voice," Beck said. "[Kibbe said], 'Glenn, I've just been escorted out of my office by armed guards and told not to come back.'" Kibbe added that he wasn't the only one forcefully escorted out, and that they had been hijacked, so to speak, by the "old guard" GOP establishment. "There was a coup during the election, and it was powerful," Beck said. "They were trying to get rid of the libertarian, Tea Party-minded power players, and first and foremost on that hit list was Matt Kibbe and his allies. They didn't like the fact that FreedomWorks was cleaning house in the GOP...that they were targeting people like Orrin Hatch. It didn't sit well with the Karl Roves of the GOP world..." Beck said that shortly thereafter he got a call from the man inside FreedomWorks who had "ordered the hit," who explained how the whole situation was "really good" because now he was the face of FreedomWorks and people trust him. "His face never saw the light of day on my program," Beck said. "I hung up the phone with him, the next day I called board members of FreedomWorks...and we said we support the libertarian voice, and if you allow this coup to sit, we're done and we'll expose it." "It wasn't even a week later the board took a vote and decided to reinstate Matt Kibbe as president," Beck said. "Put in the half of the staff -- all the libertarians that had been escorted out -- reinstated all of them, and then escorted the leader of this coup and his cronies out the door for good." Beck spoke about the ramifications of the "coup" for the 2012 election, and said now is the right time to share the story because "the exact same thing -- the same people really -- are doing this now in the GOP." "Anyone in Congress or the Senate who associates with FreedomWorks, the Senate Conservatives Fund, the Tea Party, anybody, anybody is being targeted by the same class of establishment Republican progressives," Beck said. "They do not like it when you organize. They do not like it when you choose the candidates that you actually want." Beck said it's the same reason why lawmakers are not truly pursuing the IRS' targeting of small government groups, because progressives on both sides "want that tool in place...to come after people like you." "This has never been about left and right," Beck said. "This is about freedom, freedom, and tyranny." Beck has said multiple times that he has no desire to see a third party, and reminded how the Republican Party began. "Before the GOP was in existence, it was a two party system -- the Democrats and the Whigs," Beck said, noting that many Whigs and a fair number of Democrats were frustrated that both parties were offering much of the same. "Charles Sumner was one of the most hated people by the Whigs and the Democrats...so much that he was literally beaten within an inch of his life on the House floor because no one stepped in to stop it," Beck continued. "Within four years, Sumner wasn't the most hated anymore — he was the most beloved man in the Republican Party, and the Whigs were extinct. I'm telling you that's what's coming if we stand." 8/27/13 - The country is becoming increasingly wary about the United States getting involved in any way with the current atrocities going on in Syria. Today Glenn Beck took a decidedly grim view of what would happen if the United States intervened: "we won't survive." Beck agreed in principle with Sean Hannity's comments that intervention could very well lead the United States into World War III, since Russia, Iran, and China are warning against intervention, and we'd end up going against all of them. Beck said he's not an anti-war protestor, but declared that "we need anti-war rallies" to push back against this, and people need to just ignore politicians like John McCain and President Obama dismissing opposition to intervention as coming from "extremists." Beck reminded the audience Obama's anti-war stance was one of the major things that secured his election, and pointed out that he was highly critical of Bush for similar tactics. He instructed listeners to find common ground with liberals on this issue and stand united against intervention. He concluded, "Don't screw around with this. 10/7/13 - In a monologue on his radio show Monday morning, Glenn Beck asserted that by "intentionally inflicting pain on the American people," President Obama's handling of the government shutdown has been that of a "dictator." Beck lamented that the media and the D.C. establishment have largely blamed the Republican Party for the shutdown, and that this week's new theme is that the president will attempt to negotiate an end to the battle. "Now they are coming out and saying [the president] will negotiate, but it's the Republicans' [fault]," the radio host said. Offering up several examples of government programs "inexplicably" affected by the shutdown, Beck suggested that Democrats are the ones "inflicting pain" while the GOP is "negotiating." He cited the controversy over NIH cancer funding, the World War II Memorial brouhaha, the furloughing of military chaplains, the D-Day Memorial in France, and the "forcing out" of citizens living on public land, among others. "This is a strike and a slap across the face," Beck warned. "This, I'm warning you, America, this is the sign of a dictator. He is slapping you across the face and saying, 'You will behave. You will do what I tell you to do or I will punish you.' 9/30/13 - On his weekday television program Monday, Glenn Beck read the straightforward description of what happens during a government shutdown and said he'd actually "vote for a candidate who said that's what they're going to do to us on purpose." "Government would not have the legal authority to spend money on non-essential services," Beck began. "Essential federal employees continue to work; non-essential employes don't get paid." "This is the least frightening list I've ever seen in my life!" he remarked. "This actually sounds like a pretty good idea. Bring it on. Shut it down. I'm all for it." Beck continued: "The only people who should be afraid of a shutdown are the progressives who have been making a living lying to people, convincing them they couldn't live without government handouts. Shut them down. Please. People will realize that their small business, their job, their state, their economy is actually better off without Congress constantly interfering in it, messing it up. People might actually realize that they can be self-reliant." Beck asked if those opposed to a government shutdown are actually trying to convince the American people that "you should be afraid that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid will lose their ability to legally waste your money." He proceeded to go through a short list on his chalkboard of items that the government funds, from the military to studies on robotic squirrels and how snakes would react to them. Of just those on the list, he asked if we really need more than the military, border control, and air traffic control? Beck proceeded to look at governments around the world, from the Middle East to Europe and South America, pointing out the skyrocketing unemployment rates and civil unrest. "America is going the way of Greece and Cuba and at best, by 2016, with 100 [million estimated] Americans on food stamps, we will be Venezuela — who, by the way, just [stationed] military at the toilet paper factories," Beck said. "That's where we're headed gang, because every bloated government disaster is imploding around the world, and it's going to implode here. The only way to stop some epic form of collapse is to send people down to Washington, D.C. with spines. You saw some of them last week. Ted Cruz is being the poster example of this, he and anyone standing with him, and the principles he's promoting, I believe will be remembered." Beck concluded where he began, with a word on the government shutdown: "The truth is that America cannot afford non-essential spending bonanzas. It can't. It is time to boil things down to the essentials. We're done playing the game, and we're not going to let progressives do things like scare us with a government shutdown debate. Agencies such as the IRS and EPA and programs such as Obamacare demonstrate that the Framers' fear was prescient. Therefore, the Framers provided two methods for amending the Constitution. The second was intended for our current circumstances—empowering the states to bypass Congress and call a convention for the purpose of amending the Constitution. Levin argues that we, the people, can avoid a perilous outcome by seeking recourse, using the method called for in the Constitution itself. The Framers adopted ten constitutional amendments, called the Bill of Rights, that would preserve individual rights and state authority. Levin lays forth eleven specific prescriptions for restoring our founding principles, ones that are consistent with the Framers' design. His proposals—such as term limits for members of Congress and Supreme Court justices and limits on federal taxing and spending—are pure common sense, ideas shared by many. They draw on the wisdom of the Founding Fathers—including James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and numerous lesser-known but crucially important men—in their content and in the method for applying them to the current state of the nation. 9/23/13 - During a moving speech at the memorial for the Washington Navy Yard shooting victims, President Obama called for a "transformation" of the nation in response to the latest senseless act of gun violence. This set off Glenn Beck, who delivered a fiery rant against the progressive transformation of America he believes is already in place. Beck declared, "Now they no longer care what you even say. Common sense is completely dead." He railed against the changes in education, going off on how 2+2=5 isn't considered a completely wrong answer as long as the student had a good reason for arriving there. He said, "We are literally living in 1984." Beck ran down the list of what is already under progressive control, from the banks to the health care industry. Glenn Beck Hails Ted Cruz for 'Slapping Down' 'Communist Revolutionary' Van Jones on Crossfire
10/11/13 - Apparently Glenn Beck enjoyed Thursday's Van Jones vs. Ted Cruz Crossfire showdown as much as the rest of the cable news-watching universe. On his radio show Friday, Beck meticulously dissected the confrontation, deeming Senator Cruz the undisputed winner and paining Jones as "one of the most dangerous men in America." "You're a Communist revolutionary, Van Jones!" Beck declared in response to the CNN host's attempted to get Cruz to apologize to the GOP. "He's one of the best performers on television. He is 10 times the performer that the president is. And he is 10 times the Marxist Communist that the president is." After a detour involving how big of a "coward" President Obama is and how he "cries himself to sleep" at night, Beck got back to the subject at hand. "Van Jones is a Communist revolutionary," he resumed. "And the guy spends time studying. He didn't study Ted Cruz enough. And I will guarantee you that it won't go this well next time because Van Jones studies people and then he knows exactly how they are going to move. He's a brilliant man, extraordinarily dangerous." At the same time, Beck said he's not a big fan of Cruz's "style," mostly because he's from Texas and reminds him of George W. Bush. But if you can get past that, he said, you realize that he's a "brilliant, brilliant man." "He will eviscerate you. He will just eviscerate you," Beck said of Cruz. "And to see somebody give Van Jones a slap down is quite satisfying. If you ever think that CNN is a rational, normal, not a leftist organization, look who they hired. They put a Communist revolutionary on, and they just treat him like he's just normal guy. He's center. No, he's not." While CNN is unlikely to start putting "Communist revolutionary" under Jones' name every time it appears on screen, as Beck suggests, they certainly do not portray him as being from the "center." In fact, at the start of every episode of Crossfire (that Jones is on), the announcer says these words: "On the left, Van Jones."- published: 12 Oct 2013
