Above the Law

On March 10, 2011, Art International Radio and the Clocktower Gallery present the second edition of Above the Law with DUBKNOWDUB.

DUBKNOWDUB will be performing Dub Like a Serpent, an improvisational audio art piece based on recordings band members STO and ELI made during their time at the Time Sync Laboratory of the Clocktower itself – its heaters, the wind on its roof, its echoing halls, and perhaps even its ghosts. These recordings will be filtered through DUBKNOWDUB’s signature dub machine and sampled with dis-syncopated riddim melodies to create a work truly unique to the Clocktower Gallery.

As part of the Above the Law performance series, the Clocktower is also curating a one night only exhibition of original visual art created by STO and ELI including drawings that highlight the two artists’ disparate but complimentary aesthetics as well as photographs taken during experimental dub duo ‘s late night escapades through the Clocktower’s many rooms and long corridors.

Dub Like a Serpent will begin and end at the tolling of the Clocktower’s bell, so make sure to arrive on time for this free event on March 10th, 2011 starting at 6pm.

Since 1972, the Clocktower Gallery has presented seminal works in all media by artists including Gordon Matta-Clark, Max Neuhaus, Lynda Benglis, Dennis Oppenheim, and Laurie Anderson. It continues this tradition with residency and exhibition programs that support the work of emerging and established artists including Anna Jóelsdóttir, James Franco, Japanther, Sabisha Friederg, G Lucas Crane, Tony Ourlser, and Mary Heilmann, among many others.

The Clocktower Gallery is located in a City-owned building at 108 Leonard Street between Broadway and Lafayette, so please, remember to bring you ID for security. Enter through the grey door under the scaffolding and take the elevator to the 12th Floor. Take a left, enter through the red staircase B door, and walk up to the 13th Floor. The AIR offices and studios are down the corridor.
