Hounen Matsuri, in Komaki, Japan, holds this yearly celebration to ensure bountiful harvests and plenty of offspring in the coming years. Get ready to giggle, gawk, or admire as the penis procession unfolds. Or ask the gods to grant your wish by writing on a phallic prayer board. More about Ray Bartlett at www.kaisora.com

Naga Babas at Maha Shivaratri 2012 - lifting stones with their penis.
I am a professional Documentary Travel Photographer and you can view full photo gallery Maha Shivaratri 2012 and Kumbh Mela 2007 & 2010 at: www.imagethearth.co.uk This video I took of one of the Naga Baba's (naked holymen at the Shivaratri Mela, Juna Akhara. ----------- Maha Shivaratri known as the Grand Night of Shiva, the night after Shiva created the world lasts for six days attracting over one million pilgrims to the site of Bhavnath Temple. Hundreds of naked Sadhus, known as 'Naga Babas' smeared in ash sit naked smoking charas and tobacco in temporary tents representing ashrams. Many Sadhus show the strength of their muscles and sexual organ's power (eg lifting huge stones and other Sadhus with their penis etc.) On the last day of the festival, the day before the new moon, the main attraction of the fair takes place with a procession of the Naga Babas, which is held at midnight. The procession ends with the holy bath by the Sadhus in the Mrigi Kund in the compound of Bhavnath Temple and Maha Pooja of the Mahadev at the midnight of Maha Shivaratri. However this year (2012) for the first time in over 200 years, the procession was cancelled. This was because on the day before 6 people were killed and 30 injured in a stampede caused by a wall that had collapsed. The Naga Babas made the decision that no one would be taking part in a procession as a mark of respect to the people who were killed. Hope you enjoy the gallery of images from the festival. Feel free to leave any ...

Giant penis festival in Komaki, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The Honen-sai or Honen (Hounen) Matsuri is held by Tagata Jinja on March 15 to pray for an abundant harvest. There is a Shinto ceremony, time to take pictures with the phallus, and a 90-min. procession from Kumano Shrine to Tagata Shrine. The phallus is only an offering, not an object of worship. Kanamara Matsuri - かなまら祭り
The Kanamara Matsuri is an annual Shinto fertility festival held in Kawasaki, Japan. The penis forms the central theme of the event that is reflected everywhere—in illustrations, candy, carved vegetables, decorations, and a mikoshi parade. The Kanamara Matsuri is centered around a local penis-venerating shrine once popular among prostitutes who wished to pray for protection against sexually transmitted diseases. It is said that there are divine protections also in business prosperity and the clan's prosperity, easy delivery, marriage, and married couple harmony. There is also a legend of a sharp-toothed demon that hid inside the vagina of a young girl and castrated two young men on their wedding nights with the young girl before a blacksmith fashioned an iron phallus to break the demon's teeth, leading to the enshrinement of the item. Today, the festival is used to raise money for HIV research. (from Wikipedia) The footage was shot with Sony HVR-Z7J and HDR-FX1 1080i60

Hounen Matsuri 2009 - the Procession
In this video, you can see the procession itself, the volunteers passing out free sake (Japanese alcohol), and hear the gagaku (traditional Japanese court music). Referred to as the "Japanese penis festival", (a festival celebrating fertility and renewal), which is held every March 15th. A two and a half meter wooden phallus is carried between two shrines, one belonging to the male kami and the other to the female kami, attracting mostly gaijin and a few shy Japanese. The primary deity is the female, Tamahime-no-mikoto. If you are curious for more information about the matsuri, go to this site: www.yamasa.org

Fertility Festival in Japan
View in HD- vimeo.com Music by: Antony & the Johnsons - Fistful of Love (ft. Lou Reed). Hounen Matsuri is a fertility festival held yearly on March 15th in Tagata Jinja, Japan. The festival is centered around carrying the wooden phallus mikoshi (portable shrine) between two shrines. A new phallus is crafted for the festival each year from cypress. The penis is 9ft long and weighs 620 pounds. Couples come to the festival and pray at the shrine for conception or a safe childbirth. Free sake is handed out to the crowd throughout the festival. At the end of the procession, everyone gathers at the square and waits for "mochi nage," where the officials throw large balls of mochi into the crowd from raised platforms. Phi Ta Khon is unique to Dansai - held once a year, it is part of a larger merit-making festival known as the "Boon Luang" festival. The lively Phi Ta Khon procession on day two of the celebrations witnesses the young men of village and surrounding areas dressed up as spirits wearing costumes made from strips of cloth sewn. The Phi Ta Khon mask is made of dried sticky rice husk and painted in bright colours. Cowbells are worn around the waist to announce the presence of the spirits who wield phallic-shaped long-handled swords decorated with red paint. There are also two larger figures who feature in the processions that are called the "Phi Ta Khon Yai" (yai meaning large in Thai) - they must always appear as a male and female pair. Day two features the Rocket Festival which takes place at the back of Pon Chai Temple. The (rather unsafe!) rockets are fired from a makeshift bamboo structure and are meant to bring on the rains needed to make the crops for that year successful and abundant.

Castelmola and Bar Turrisi
Castelmola www.castelmola.com is a comune (municipality) Produced by Alessandro Sorbello http in the Province of Messina in the Italian region Sicily, located about 170 km east of Palermo and about 40 km southwest of Messina. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1107 and an area of 16.4 km². Castelmola borders the following municipalities: Gaggi, Letojanni, Mongiuffi Melia, Taormina. Though it overlooks Taormina, one of Sicily's most popular attractions, the nearby town of Castelmola is rarely visited by non-Sicilians. Yet, the spectacular views from this fascinating spot make those from Taormina seem almost mundane by comparison. This includes Mount Etna, of course, but on a clear day you can see beyond the Etna region to Siracusa and Augusta farther down the Ionian coast, beyond Catania. More than an outgrowth of Taormina, Castelmola is a locality in its own right. The human presence here is an ancient one, dating at least from the Bronze Age. It was the Greeks who began complete colonization, linked to their establishment of Taormina. That's when the first fortresses were constructed. Little remains of these, or of the subsequent Arab and Norman fortifications, though some walls have been rebuilt. The sanctuary of the Madonna della Rocca, locally famous for its annual procession descending down steps to Taormina, offers some fantastic views. A small town eventually grew here, but rather few people live here year-round. Castelmola is better known for its ...
