Sometimes news coverage provides a sense that there's not much good in the world. But then, amid tragic events, touching stories emerge about selfless acts of
kindness. Watch the heroic acts this year that turned these people into everyday #heroes. http://yhoo.it/18DaJIo #2013Rewind

I'd love to see twice as many of these stories as the gloom and doom stories.

Things like gay marriage simply shouldn't be news.

I am confident, however, that eventually the majority of this so-called "militancy" will stop.

And I say this with confidence simply because I don't see groups of "militant" women campaigning to get the right to vote. Sure, there are still protests against continued inequalities, but the movement for suffrage for women is no longer being "rammed down people's throats" because women can vote - the law now supports equality.

I don't see groups of "militant" African Americans campaigning for an end to segregation. Yes, there are still issues that continue to be raised about racism and prejudice, but the movement for an end to racial segregation is no longer being "rammed down people's throats" because segregation has ended - the law supports equality.

That's why I'm so very confident in saying that marriage equality and gay rights will, one day, no longer be in the news anywhere near as much as it is today. One day there will be nowhere near as much "militancy", because one day gay people will be treated equally both in the eyes of society and in the eyes of the law.

With apologies to the suit, perhaps it's the socks that make the man. To prove it, here's George H.W. Bush wearing socks with a picture of his face on them. The former president, who was accepting the LBJ Foundation's "Liberty and Justice for All" award, is known for his whimsical and eye-catching sock choices. France's U.N. ambassador called the situation in Central African Republic "horrendous." Other human rights observers, diplomats and government officials use similar terms to describe the country, where armed Seleka rebels from neighboring countries have engineered a near-civil war between the country's dominant Christian population and minority Muslims. Fears of genocide similar to what happened in Rwanda permeate diplomatic circles. Yahoo News examines how the resource-wealthy but broken country has spiraled into deadly chaos: http://bit.ly/1cOFwP9
