The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal was created to celebrate Her Majesty's accession to the Throne 60 years ago and is designed to honor significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. Recipients in this Video: Ann Dempsey Dillon Although an accomplished lawyer, Ann Dillon has given the area of education her primary focus of her community service, both in in Toronto and B.C. Ann has served as a board member, director and volunteer to the Mulgrave Independent School, Shawnigan Lake School, Nelle's Hostel for Women, and Hollyburn School. She has also been an avid volunteer canvasser for the Canadian Cancer Society. In September 2009 she was appointed by Honourable Jason Kenney, to serve as a full time Citizenship Judge in Vancouver. In this capacity, she has worked diligently to promote better understanding of Canadian Citizenship in the community, schools, associations and various panels. Davood Ghavami Davood Ghavami has been a dedicated volunteer for the past twenty years. When he first arrived in Canada, Davood realized the great need for the new Canadians to be settled here and to be integrated into Canadian society. That realization came about when he realized that he was one of them. Newcomer's integration, human rights and refugee protection were first on Davood's agenda. In the same endeavor, and in appreciation of the Canadian Multicultural social policy, Davood established rapport and association with other multicultural communities and organizations who were working towards realization of multiculturalism and integration with mainstream Canadians. He then established several community organizations in Vancouver and worked with other organizations such as AMSSA and the Canadian Chinese Congress . Davood is the principle founding member and the chairman of the Iranian-Canadian Congress of Canada (ICCC) . Davood was the founder and director of Iranian Refugee association; board member of Vancouver Association of Survivors of Torture (VAST); member of Advisory Committee of Public Legal Education Society; member of the Canadian Refugee Council; board member of Affiliation of Multicultural Societies; advocate and active participant in the Vancouver Committee for Racial Justice; Founder and President of the Iranian --Canadian Association of Western Canada; volunteer for ISS for the settlement of new comers; and fundraiser helper for Canadian Red Cross; member of the Foreign Credentials Committee. Davood is a member of the Canadian Iranian Steering Committee and is the founding member and organizer of the Persian New Year (Nowruz) events at Ambleside Park.
