Joseph Christopher Carter (born March 7, 1960 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) is a former right fielder in Major League Baseball who played from 1983 to 1998. Carter is most famous for hitting a walk-off home run to win the 1993 World Series for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Joe Carter attended Wichita State University, leaving after his junior year. He was named the Sporting News magazine's College Player of the Year in 1981 In the 1981 draft, the Cubs chose him with the second pick of the first round.
Carter first reached the majors in 1983 with the Chicago Cubs, but was traded to the Cleveland Indians the following year, where he blossomed into a star. Carter emerged as a prolific power hitter, hitting as many as 35 home runs in a season and regularly driving in 100 or more runs. He usually hit nearly as many doubles as he did homers, and would get respectable numbers of triples in many years too. He was also a very good baserunner, stealing 20-30 bases a year with a high rate of success; in 1987, Carter became a rare member of the single-season 30–30 club for home runs/stolen bases. However, he was considered a below-average defensive outfielder. The Indians publicly criticized his defense and low batting average after he left, although Cleveland was a below average team after his departure, while Carter contributed to multiple championships elsewhere.
Thomas F. Cheek (June 13, 1939 - October 9, 2005) was an American sportscaster.
Best known as the "Voice of the Blue Jays", Tom announced Major League Baseball games for the Toronto Blue Jays on radio from the team's establishment in 1977 until his retirement in 2004, in which he had a 27-year consecutive game streak of 4,306 consecutive games plus 41 post-season games called, which lasted from the first ever Blue Jays game in 1977 to June 3, 2004. Cheek was inducted to the Blue Jays Level of Excellence in 2005 and has since then been nominated numerous times for the Ford C. Frick Award.
Cheek's best-known call was perhaps his description of Joe Carter's dramatic title-clinching home run in Game 6 of the 1993 World Series, when he said, "Touch 'em all, Joe! You'll never hit a bigger home run in your life!" He is also author of the book Road to Glory, which chronicled the first 16 years of Blue Jays baseball.
Born and raised in the west side of Pensacola, Florida, Cheek, an avid sports fan, was introduced to his first tape recorder at the age of 14, which would lay the foundations for his future in broadcasting. From 1957 to 1960, he served in the U.S. Air Force where he was introduced to the Yankees broadcaster Red Barber. Following his discharge from the armed forces in 1960, Cheek attended the Cambridge School of Broadcasting in Boston, Massachusetts for two years from which his broadcasting years would start from.
Ali Ryerson (born 1952) is a flautist with a background in both classical and jazz, as well as being an instructor. They called it stormy Monday, but Tuesday is as just as
Oh they called it, they called it stormy Monday, but
Tuesday, Tuesday is as just as bad
Oh, Wednesday is worst, and Thursday, oh so sad
The eagle flies on Friday, now Saturday I'll go out to
play
Oh the eagle, the eagle flies on Friday Saturday I'll
go out and play
Sunday I'll go to church, and I fall on my knees and
pray
I say, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy on me
But Lord, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy on me
You know I'm crazy 'bout my baby Lord, please send my
baby back on to me
Help me out here man, help me out
Sun rise in the east, it set up in the west
Yes, the sun rise in the east baby, and it set up in
the west
It's hard to tell, it's hard to tell, it's hard to
tell, which one, which one, which one a little bad
Yeah! Go ahead, do it one more time
Oh the eagle flies on Friday, Saturday I'll go out to
play
