ABC News 24 is an Australian 24-hour news channel launched and owned by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. The channel replaced the former ABC High Definition simulcast of ABC1 and commenced broadcasting at 7:30pm (AEST) 5:30 (AWST) on Thursday, 22 July 2010.

The majority of the channel's content is produced from the ABC Ultimo Centre in Sydney, which the public can view being presented from an atrium looking into the news presentation studio. ABC News 24's early morning programme, ABC News Breakfast, is produced at the ABC Southbank Centre in Melbourne (weekdays).

The ABC announced in January 2010 that it planned to launch a 24-hour news channel. The new ABC News 24 logo was revealed by Freeview in their new promotion on Tuesday 22 June. The official promotional reel for ABC News 24 was launched on digital channel 24 between 6 and 8 July.

Speculation about a launch date for ABC News 24 took place in the weeks prior to the official announcement. The Daily Telegraph claimed in early July that the channel would be delayed due to technical issues at the ABC's new playout facility, MediaHub, in south west Sydney while other outlets reported that the channel was on track to begin in mid-July.

ABC News is the news gathering and broadcasting division of the American Broadcasting Company, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. Its flagship program is World News with Diane Sawyer; other programs include morning show Good Morning America, Nightline, television news magazine shows Primetime & 20/20, and Sunday morning political affairs program This Week with George Stephanopoulos.

ABC began news broadcasts early in its independent existence as a radio network after the Federal Communications Commission ordered the former NBC Blue Network to be spun off as an independent company in 1943. This was done to keep single or a few companies such as NBC and CBS from dominating radio broadcasting in the U.S., and in particular, from dominating news and political broadcasting and projecting narrow points-of-view. Television broadcasting was suspended however, during World War II.

Regular ABC television news broadcasts began soon after ABC started transmitting from its initial New York City television station and production center in late summer 1948. ABC-TV news broadcasts have continued as the ABC television network spread across the country, a process that took many years, from that beginning in 1948 through today, but they have not always had the same level of success that they enjoy now. Throughout the 1950s, the 1960s, and the early 1970s, ABC News consistently ranked third in viewership behind CBS News and NBC News. Until the 1970s, the ABC-TV network had fewer affiliate stations, and also weaker prime-time programming lineups to support the network's news departments than the two larger networks had, each of which had established their radio news operations during the 1930s.

Juanita Phillips (born 11 October 1963 in Brisbane) is an Australian journalist and news presenter.

Phillips is currently working for the ABC as weeknight presenter of ABC News in New South Wales and evening presenter for ABC News 24 bulletins.

Phillips began her career in Brisbane in 1982 as a cadet journalist at The Courier-Mail where she became a feature writer and columnist. In the early 1990s, Phillips worked at TVQ-10 Brisbane as a reporter and presenter. She made her national debut as regular presenter on Ten Eyewitness News weekend late edition (from Ten's Brisbane studios) in 1993. A year later, Phillips moved to Sydney to join Ron Wilson on TEN-10's 5:00pm news, succeeding Sandra Sully. Phillips was Ten Sydney's lead female presenter for two years, succeeded by Jessica Rowe.

In 1997, following a stint as presenter with Sky News Australia, Phillips moved to London where she worked as a news presenter at BBC World News while at the same time running a London cafe. She later moved to CNN International, also in London, working mainly as co-anchor on CNN Today before returning to Australia as weekend presenter of the ABC's New South Wales state bulletins.

Ticky Fullerton (b. 1963 or 1964) is a journalist at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and a regular presenter of the national show, The Business since mid 2010. The show is also aired on ABC News 24, the ABC's international TV news channel.

Fullerton grew up in Yelford, Oxfordshire, England, and has three siblings. She took a law degree at the University of Oxford, graduating in 1984 or 1985. At Oxford she was a contemporary of London Mayor Boris Johnson.

After graduation she became an associate director with Credit Suisse First Boston, working in London and then moving to Sydney, latterly raising capital for businesses and government.

She lives in Sydney and has one son.

Moving to the ABC in 1995, she worked in business journalism and for the TV show Lateline.

She became the presenter of Landline, a TV show dealing with farming issues in Australia. She was then an investigative reporter for Four Corners for five years, before her current role at The Business.

A 2004 broadcast on Four Corners, Lords of the Forest received criticism for alleged political bias towards logging protestors. The Australian Communications and Media Authority upheld some of these complaints.
