Plot
We have made a picture treating upon Prince Henry's visit to America in the following manner. A tableau is arranged showing the United States Capital at Washington in the centre and on either side, the bow and stern of Kaiser Wilhelm's yacht the Hohenzollern." On the right, there mysteriously appears the likeness of Prince Bismark and the later President McKinley. This fades away and there appears the picture of Admiral Dewey and Prince Henry of Prussia. This mysteriously fades away and then appears in their places the pictures of Kaiser Wilhelm, the Emperor of Germany, and Theodore Roosevelt, President of the United States. An American and German sailor stand on either side during the entire tableau and they cover the faces of Kaiser Wilhelm and President Roosevelt with the German and American flags. A most beautiful and artistic film and an appropriate show closer.

2013 German American Day Parade

This video shows some of the highlights of the 2013 German-American Steuben Parade in New York City. This is the 56th Anniversary of the parade and featured three Grand Marshals; Werner Roth, former captain of the NY Cosmos and member of the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame; German Brewery Magnate Christian Dinkelacker, and Harald Leibrecht who was born in the US and went on to become a member of the German parliament. Candidate for NYC Mayor, Joe Lhota, and many law enforcement agencies including the NYPD Marching Band and various Steuben Associations participated in the parade. The parade takes its name from Friedrich Wilhelm Von Steuben who served under General George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Marchers from West Point, Mother Cabrini H.S. and floats featuring the 2013 Miss German America, the American Turners, and those sponsored by various breweries were crowd favorites. There were also about 20 groups that traveled here from Germany to take part this parade. A marriage celebration topped off the day's event for the family members of Schaller and Weber an authentic german butcher shop in NYC. This is one of the biggest celebrations of german culture in New York City. The video was taken on Saturday, September 21, 2013 on 5th Avenue & 79th Street.

War With Germany Ends In Victory Victory Leads To Peace Sometimes Sometimes Not The German American Bund, or German American Federation (German: Amerikadeutscher Bund; Amerikadeutscher Volksbund, AV), was an American Nazi organization established in 1936 to succeed Friends of New Germany, the new name being chosen to emphasise the group's American credentials after press criticism that the organisation was unpatriotic. The Bund was to consist only of American citizens of German descent. Its main goal was to promote a favorable view of Nazi Germany. In March 1936, the German American Bund was established as a follow-up organization for the FOTNG in Buffalo, New York. The Bund elected a German-born American citizen Fritz Julius Kuhn as its leader (bundesführer). Kuhn was a veteran of the Bavarian infantry during World War I and an Alter Kämpfer (old fighter) of the Nazi Party, who in 1934 was granted American citizenship. Kuhn was initially effective as a leader and was able to unite the organization and expand its membership but came to be seen simply as an incompetent swindler and liar. The administrative structure of the Bund mimicked the regional administrative subdivision of the Nazi Party. The United States was divided into three Gaue: Gau Ost (East), Gau West and Gau Midwest. Together the three Gaue comprised 69 Ortsgruppen (local groups): 40 in Gau Ost (17 in New York), 10 in Gau West and 19 in Gau Midwest. Each Gau had its own Gauleiter and staff to direct the Bund operations in the region in accordance with the führerprinzip. The Bund established a number of training camps, including Camp Nordland in Sussex County, New Jersey, Camp Siegfried in Yaphank, New York, Camp Hindenburg in Grafton, Wisconsin, Deutschhorst Country Club in Sellersville, PA, Camp Bergwald in Bloomingdale, NJ and Camp Highland in New York state. The Bund held rallies with Nazi insignia and procedures such as the Hitler salute and attacked the administration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jewish groups, Communism, "Moscow-directed" trade unions and American boycotts of German goods. Eichmann helped draft the letter ordering the Final Solution -- the Nazi's plan to exterminate the Jewish people in Nazi-occupied Europe. After the war, Eichmann fled to Argentina, where he lived under a false identity until he was kidnapped by the Israeli intelligence agency, the Mossad, on May 11, 1960. He was flown to Israel and brought to trial in Jerusalem in April 1961. After being found guilty he was executed by hanging in 1962. One writer reporting on the trial was the German-Jewish philosopher and political theorist Hannah Arendt, the author of "The Origins of Totalitarianism" and "The Human Condition." Arendt's coverage of the trial for the New Yorker proved extremely controversial. She expressed shock that Eichmann was not a monster, or evil, but "terribly and terrifyingly normal." Even more controversial was her assertion that the Jews participated in their own destruction through the collaboration of the Nazi-appointed Judenrat, or Jewish Councils, with the Third Reich. Arendt's coverage of the Eichmann trial is chronicled in the 2013 film, "Hannah Arendt." We air clips of the film and speak with the film's star, Barbara Sukowa, who was awarded the Lola Award for Best Actress, the German equivalent of the Oscars, for her role. We are also joined by the film's director, Margarethe von Trotta, one of Germany's leading directors, who has won multiple awards over her 40-year career.
