CadLite

CadLite provides spatial representation and information about the 14.7 million legal land parcels across Australia. This dataset is a graphical index of digital cadastral boundaries. NEW – The dataset now contains parcels representing easements, roads, crossings, rail and water, in addition to the traditional view of land and strata based information.

Scope

CadLite® meets the needs of organisations that require a graphical representation of land parcel and property boundaries on a broad scale to integrate with other data in delivering efficient services.

*New – The dataset now contains parcels representing easements, roads, crossings, rail and water, in addition to the traditional view of land and strata based information.

Two themes are used for land parcel information:

  • Cadastral: A seamless national database of cadastral boundaries, excluding easements and road drainage easements
  • Property: A national dataset that identifies the three relationships that exist between a property and a cadastral parcel. These are where (1) one cadastral parcel is equal to one property; (2) many cadastral parcels make up one property; and (3) one cadastral parcel contains many properties.

CadLite provides an identifier compatible with jurisdictional land titles and can be used to reference other available geographic and land administrative data.

Applications

Improved services

CadLite assists organisations in making informed decisions, such as optimal future location of service centres and other community services. From Census analysis to Centrelink support, health information and services to transport and regional development, CadLite improves service development, promotion and service delivery.

Land Use Changes

While CadLite does not contain land use information, it is often used to examine urbanisation changes. Paired with the Land Tenure dataset, CadLite can be used to provide spatial representation of land ownership types for cadastral parcels, further enabling analysis of change in land use.

Location finder

CadLite can be used to show internet or mobile phone users an array of established services in the nearest suburb. For example, ‘show me my nearest Medicare Service Point’ with the street address and maps returned almost immediately to a computer or mobile.

Data sources

The CadLite dataset was built by PSMA Australia and is maintained through quarterly updates. It uses authoritative government data, sourced from the state and territory government mapping agencies and land registries of Australia.
