Physiology ( /ˌfɪziˈɒlədʒi/) is the science of the function of living systems. This includes how organisms, organ systems, organs, cells, and bio-molecules carry out the chemical or physical functions that exist in a living system. The highest honor awarded in physiology is the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, awarded since 1901 by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

From Ancient Greek: φύσις- physis meaning "nature" or "origin" and -λογία -logia meaning the "study of".

Human physiology is the science of the mechanical, physical, and biochemical functions of humans, their organs, and the cells of which they are composed. The principal level of focus of physiology is at the level of organs and systems within systems. Much of the foundation of knowledge in human physiology was provided by animal experimentation. Physiology is closely related to anatomy; anatomy is the study of form, and physiology is the study of function. Due to the frequent connection between form and function, physiology and anatomy are intrinsically linked and are studied in tandem as part of a medical curriculum.

David Randall (born 1951 in Ipswich) is a British journalist and author of The Universal Journalist, a textbook on journalism.

Randall was born in Norwich and studied Economics at Clare College, Cambridge. He was recruited to write for the student newspaper Varsity by then editor Jeremy Paxman. After a brief stint as a professional comedian and a brand manager at a cosmetics company, he joined the Croydon Advertiser as a trainee reporter in 1974 and became the paper's editor in 1980. In 1981 he joined The Observer as deputy sports editor. Since 1998 has been at the Independent on Sunday, as a news executive.

As well as The Universal Journalist, he is the author of The Great Reporters which profiles the thirteen reporters he regards as being the best the trade has ever produced.

James "Jimmy" Samuel Morris, JR (born January 19, 1964) is a retired American professional baseball player known for his brief Major League Baseball (MLB) career.

He spent most of his childhood moving to different cities. He began playing baseball at the age of three. His father became a recruiter for the United States Navy and his family settled in Texas. He attended Brownwood High School, but as Brownwood did not yet have a baseball program, he played football for the Lions from 1979-82 and won the state championship as a wingback, punter and kicker with Gordon Wood as a head coach. Still, he never gave up on his dreams of becoming a professional baseball player.

Morris was originally selected 465th overall in the January 1982 amateur baseball draft by the New York Yankees but did not sign. He would then later be selected fourth overall in the January 1983 amateur baseball draft by the Milwaukee Brewers and signed with the organization. He suffered several arm injuries in the minor leagues, and was released during the 1987 season, never having progressed past the single-A minor leagues. He signed with the Chicago White Sox organization for 1989, but was again unable to rise past the single-A leagues

Major Peter Ratcliffe DCM is an author and former member of the Special Air Service (SAS).

Peter Ratcliffe came originally from Salford, Greater Manchester. As a boy, he joined the 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (1 PARA) before and eventually going on to pass the SAS selection course. Upon joining the regiment, he was posted to 18 (Mobility) Troop D Squadron.

During his time in the SAS he was to deploy into a number of theatre and operations including the Dhofar Rebellion in Oman, the Falklands War and Operation Granby in the Gulf. During the 1991 Gulf War, Ratcliffe was the Regimental Sergeant Major and deployed in Iraq to relieve the Officer Commanding A Squadron (one of the few times where an enlisted man has formally relieved a commissioned officer). He subsequently led the squadron on a raid on a communication site known as "Victor Two" for which he was awarded the DCM.

After the conflict Ratcliffe was himself commissioned as an officer.
