A season is a division of the year, marked by changes in weather, ecology and hours of daylight. Seasons result from the yearly orbit of the Earth around the Sun and the tilt of the Earth's rotational axis relative to the plane of the orbit. In temperate and polar regions, the seasons are marked by changes in the intensity of sunlight that reaches the Earth's surface, variations of which may cause animals to go into hibernation or to migrate, and plants to be dormant.
During May, June, and July, the northern hemisphere is exposed to more direct sunlight because the hemisphere faces the sun. The same is true of the southern hemisphere in November, December, and January. It is the tilt of the Earth that causes the Sun to be higher in the sky during the summer months which increases the solar flux. However, due to seasonal lag, June, July, and August are the hottest months in the northern hemisphere and December, January, and February are the hottest months in the southern hemisphere.

Rottnest Island (known as Wadjemup to the local Noongar people, and otherwise colloquially known as Rotto) is an island off the coast of Western Australia, located 18 kilometres (11 mi) west of Fremantle. The island covers 19 square kilometres (7.3 sq mi) and is administered by the Rottnest Island Authority under a separate act of parliament. Rottnest is a popular holiday destination, and there are daily ferry services to Perth, the state's capital and largest city. It has a permanent population of around 100 people, with around 500,000 annual visitors (and up to 15,000 visitors during peak periods).
A sandy, low-lying island formed on a base of limestone, Rottnest is an A-class reserve, the highest level of protection afforded to public land. A number of native and introduced bird species nest near the shallow salt lakes in the island's interior, and Rottnest has consequently been designated an Important Bird Area. The island also includes three endemic tree species, notably the Rottnest Island pine, and was heavily forested before settlement. Rottnest is perhaps best known for its population of quokkas, a small native marsupial found in very few other locations. The island also includes colonies of Australian sea lions and southern fur seals.

Bondi Vet Dr Chris Brown visits Rottnest Island, a tiny paradise 30 mins offshore from Perth (Western Australia) to get some selfies with the happiest animal in the world - the QUOKKA! (Selfies with the island's famous inhabitant started going viral several years ago). The quokka has an easy relaxed lifestyle living in paradise - it has almost no predators on Rottnest Island which is almost the only place in the world it can be found (there were a tiny number of feral cats in the ~70s but successfully eradicated), and the only vehicles allowed on the island are emergency/maintenance vehicles/bus service - visitors mostly get around on bicycles (BYO or rent there) - literally the quokkas only concern in life is how their hair looks in selfies. The ~8000-12000 quokkas are used to humans and ...
