Solar radius is a unit of distance used to express the size of stars in astronomy equal to radius of the Sun. The solar radius is usually defined as the radius to the layer in the solar photosphere where the optical depth equals 2/3.:
The solar radius is approximately 695,700 kilometres (432,288 miles), which is about 10 times the average radius of Jupiter, 110 times the radius of the Earth, and 1/215th of an astronomical unit, the distance of Earth from the Sun. It varies slightly from pole to equator due to its rotation, which induces an oblateness of order 10 parts per million. (See 1 gigametre for similar distances.)
The SOHO spacecraft was used to measure the radius of the Sun by timing transits of Mercury across the surface during 2003 and 2006. The result was a measured radius of 696,342 ± 65 kilometres (432,687 ± 40 miles).
Haberreiter, Schmutz & Kosovichev (2008) determined the radius corresponding to the solar photosphere to be 695,660 ± 140 kilometres (432,263 ± 87 miles). This new value is consistent with helioseismic estimates, and the same study showed that previous estimates using inflection point methods had been overestimated by approximately 300 km.
Solar may refer to:
Canis Majoris can refer to any of a number of stars which, as seen from Earth, reside within the Canis Major constellation, including:
VY Canis Majoris (VY CMa) is a red hypergiant star located in the constellation Canis Major. It is one of the largest stars (at one time it was the largest known) and also one of the most luminous of its type, and has a radius of approximately 1,420 ± 120 solar radii (equal to a diameter of 13.2 astronomical units, or about 1,976,640,000 km), and is located about 1.2 kiloparsecs (3,900 light-years) from Earth.
VY Canis Majoris is a single star categorized as a semiregular variable with an estimated period of 2,000 days. It has an average density of 5 to 10 mg/m3. If placed at the center of the Solar System, VY Canis Majoris's surface would extend beyond the orbit of Jupiter, although there is still considerable variation in estimates of the radius.
The first known recorded observation of VY Canis Majoris is in the star catalogue of Jérôme Lalande, on 7 March 1801, which lists it as a 7th magnitude star. Further 19th-century studies of its apparent magnitude demonstrate that the star has been fading since 1850. Since 1847, VY Canis Majoris has been described as a crimson star. During the 19th century, observers measured at least six discrete components, suggesting that it might be a multiple star. These discrete components are now known to be bright areas in the surrounding nebula. Visual observations in 1957 and high-resolution imaging in 1998 showed that there are no companion stars.
Mu Sagittarii (Mu Sgr, μ Sagittarii, μ Sgr) is a star system in the constellation Sagittarius. It also has the traditional name Polis.
The stars in the Polis system are designated Polis A through Polis E. Polis is more than 3000 light years from Earth.
The primary component in this system, Polis A, is a type B giant star with a total luminosity of 180,000 times that of the Sun and a radius of 115 times solar. Its mass is 23 times the solar mass while it has a surface temperature of 11,100 kelvins.
Polis A is an eclipsing binary, bringing the total of stars in the system to six. The primary component is a spectral type B8 supergiant and the companion is a type B2 giant. The orbital period of the binary is 180.55 days. Due to occultation of the primary by the companion, the apparent magnitude of Polis A varies between +3.84 and +3.96.
The remaining components are very weakly bound to the Polis system.

A Waxing Gibbous Moon occulted the 2.9 magnitude star Pi Sagittarii (Albaldah) on Wednesday, August 10, 2011. The exact cosmic cover-up took place at about 9:58 pm EDT. It takes place approximately 1:53 into the video. I recorded this event at Richland Township Park, located in Kalamazoo County Michigan. Equipment used included a Celestron 9.25" EdgeHD Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope and Canon 550D (T2i) camera.

Take a look at the largest star compared to the pale ble dot we know as Earth. The video show only up to This red hypergiant star which is by far the largest known. It has an estimated radius between 1800 and 2100 times the radius of our Sun. With this size it would reach nearly to the orbit of Saturn if placed in our solar system. The star is located roughly 4,900 light-years from Earth in the constellation Canis Majoris. Yet we know RW Cephei, VV Cephei A, VX Sagittarii, Westerlund 1-26, WOH G64, NML Cygni and finally there is thee UY Scuti which makes it the larget star discovered so far are even more massive.

Meet Corliss Archer, a program from radio's Golden Age, ran from January 7, 1943 to September 30, 1956. Priscilla Lyon and Janet Waldo successively portrayed 15-year-old Corliss on radio. Lugene Sanders also played Corliss briefly on radio and in the Meet Corliss Archer television show. Perpetually perky, breathless and well-intentioned, Corliss is constantly at the side of her next-door neighbor and boyfriend, Dexter Franklin (Bill Christy, Sam Edwards). Clumsy, nerdy Dexter, a sweet but constant bungler with a nasal voice, is best remembered for his trademark phrase, "Holy cow!" and his braying call, "Heyyyy, Corrrrrliiiiiss!"--frequently delivered from the hedge separating their houses. Harry Archer, Corliss' father, is a lawyer who tolerates Dexter only when he wants to use him to p...
