LAZ ლაზი singer Hulya Polat song Kocari
LAZ ლაზი singer Hulya Polat song Kocari
HÜLYA POLAT is one of Turkey's modernising popular KARADENIZ or BLACK SEA [Northern Coastal Area opposite Russia] singers. This song ' Koçari' which translates to English as something like 'Ram-like beautiful strong boy', that is, an attractive youth like the male goat or with qualities of the first Western Horoscope Sign: ARIES. These males tend to be child-like, adventurous, and sexy like the Ram. 'KOÇARİ' ['HANDSOME LAD'] LYRICS in ENGLISH The hills are grass [oh desirable Handsome Lad] The goat hits the soul [come on come on Handsome Lad] Raise the palace, you girls The heart is in the fire Oh, who's half desirable Handsome Lad Oh my darling Handsome Lad The plateaus are lined in rows I feel I fall though painted cypress trees Come here late Handsome Lad Let me see your passion Oh, who's half desirable Handsome Lad Oh my darling Handsome Lad On shapeless meadows I can not drink cold water Although two are in a universe Can not escape from you Handsome Lad Oh, who's half desirable Handsome Lad Oh my darling Handsome Lad The lyrics are tricky to translate from Turkish to English to get the effect and meaning. Also, this is a LAZ song with mythology and cultural reference to Black Sea traditions. The song appears quite traditional and obviously 'thought aloud' where some lady is deeply attracted to a young man she likens to a young Ram. She is hiding her affections outwardly, but inwardly is excited when encountering this boy and rejoicing in private rapture. However, the second verse reveals doubts that the romance will ever happen in the 'shapeless meadows' [a metephor for times of dullness when the boy is not there?]. She also expresses a sense of not being able to 'escape' and being somewhat 'addicted' to the thrill of the fantasy love affair happening in her head? But, on the other hand, sometimes dreams are nicer than reality so there is a sense that never tasting that 'cold water' may keep alive a mystic ideal of love that maybe has a more 'hot water' taste? Who knows, it is a great celebration of LAZ mythology and culture! LAZ people originallly existed as a province close to Geogrian Culture and its own LAZ language which has disappeared from the cities due to imposition of The New Turkish Language under The Turkish Republic in 1928. Thus, no other language was permitted to be spoken in Turkey to promoted Atatürk's monoculture. The LAZ, ARABIC, PERSIAN and KURDISH speakers were forbidden to speak their langauges in public. KURDISH and ARABIC have survived, unfortunately, LAZ language has been largely lost an all but remote villages. Hopefully, like WELSH in the UK, there will be a revival of LAZ language in schools and television to promote the indigenous tongue. HÜLYA POLAT was born in Rize in the BLACK SEA area. Rize is a temperate humid coastal town famous for growing the distinctive-tasting TURKISH TEA which is served black in small glasses with sugar. TEA-GROWING was a strategic part of The Turkish Republic which changed the Turkish daily drink away from imported coffee to home-grown TEA. So the KARADENIZ area was instrumental in supporting the internal market of The Republic. POLAT came from a family who are interested in music. HÜLYA, like many LAZ people , loves her own BLACK SEA folk music and wished to sing KARADENIZ songs. HÜLYA POLAT began learning LAZ lyrics and began singing on local radio. Then, in 1996, HÜLYA began recording. At that time, KARADENIZ MUSIC was regional due to geographical isolation in the North East, an insular culture but most importantly, CULTURAL SNOBBERY in the media capital: İstanbul. The accent of legendary LAZ singers like İsmail Türüt and Mustafa Topaloğlu were openly sneered at and deeply disliked in İstanbul by the 'fashionable' youth. The deep tradition and LAZ accent in Turkish seemed to deeply offend the formerly 'cosmopolitan' Ottoman Capital. However, this was to gradually change as LAZ singer DAVUT GÜLOĞLU burst into the Turkish charts with LAZ TECHNO album, 'NURCANIM' in 2000. The songs were MULTI-TRACK slick studio productions with sophisticated ORCHESTRATION creating a synthesis of LAZ FOLK with ELECTRONIC POP. Once LAZ MUSIC was 'on the map', the previous prejudice against KARADENIZ arts melted away to a rustic kind of Turkish Music that was made more 'mellow' and 'experimental'. HÜLYA POLAT'S 'KOÇARİ' was a national hit and gave way to a new 'softer' experimental blend of LAZ music. HÜLYA went on to produce a number of BLACK SEA studio albums of song that pioneered changes in STUDIO MIX [how loud and soft some instruments are on a finished recording]. The earlier LAZ MUSIC had accentuated the hard voices of the singers plus close-mic KEMENÇE [a hand held traditional bowed LAZ instrument with harsh TIMBRE] and ZURNA [a traditional OBOE with harsh tone]. POLAT also impovised with newer singing styles with original ORCHESTRATION and experimental METRE.- published: 17 Dec 2013

Laz folk musics (ლაზური ნენა)
The Laz language (ლაზური ნენა, lazuri nena; Georgian: ლაზური ენა, lazuri ena, or ჭანური ენა, č'anuri ena, also chanuri ena; Turkish: Lazca) is a Kartvelian language spoken by the Laz people on the Southeast shore of the Black Sea. It is estimated that there are around 30,000 native speakers of Laz in Turkey, in a strip of land extending from Melyat to the Georgian border (officially called Lazistan until 1925), and about 2,000 in Georgia. Laz is one of the four South Caucasian languages. Along with Mingrelian, it forms the Zan branch of this kartvelian language family. The two languages are very closely related, to the extent that some linguists refer to Mingrelian and Laz as dialects or regional variants of a single Zan language, a view held officially in the Soviet era and still so in Georgia today. In general, however, Mingrelian and Laz are considered as separate languages, due both to the long-standing separation of their communities of speakers (500 years) and to a lack of mutual intelligibility. The Laz are shifting to the Turkish of Trebizond, in which the harmony of the vowels is much neglected. Laz dialects Laz has five major dialects: Xopuri (ხოფური), spoken in Hopa and Ajaria; Vitzur-Ark'abuli (ვიწურ-არქაბული), spoken in Arhavi and Fındıklı; Çxaluri (ჩხალური), spoken in Düzköy (Çxala) village in Borçka; Atinuri (ათინური), spoken in Pazar (former Atina); Art'aşenuri (არტაშენური), spoken in Ardeşen. The last two are often treated as a single Atinan dialect. Speakers of different Laz dialects have trouble understanding each other, and often prefer to communicate in the local official language. Bu diyalektler aşağıdaki şeilde sınıflandırılabilrir: A) Doğu Diyalektleri 1. Xopa-Çxala diyalekti 2. Arkabi-Vitze diyalekti B) Batı Diyalektleri 1. Atina-Arthaşeni diyalekti Xopa-Çxala diyalekti Megrelceye en yakın Laz diyalektikdir. Bu diyelekt diğer diylektlerden, /q/ sesinin muhafazası, seri göstergesinin --ap, -up şeklinde olması, gelecek zaman ve rivayet geçmiş zaman formlarının farkından ötürü diğer diyalektlerden kolaylıkla ayrılır. TURKEY - BELLY DANCING LAZ - 'Ballı Yarim' by ABDULLAH KARAMAN and THE GIRLS - BLACK SEA MUSIC
'HONEYED HALF' is BIKINI-CLAD TURKISH GIRLS DRIVING CRANES and BELLY DANCING in the BLACK SEA - As ISLAMICISTS overtun the 90 YEAR SECULAR VEIL BAN of TURKEY in 2013 - Let us CELEBRATE KEMAL ATATÜRK'S SECULAR TURKISH REPUBLIC in STYLE! [Click 'Show more' for full analysis] ABDULLAH KARAMAN is an EXTREMELY TALENTED artists from KARADENIZ or BLACK SEA MUSIC of TURKEY. The BLACK SEA centre for MUSIC is TRABZON and RİZE cities respectively. They are on the NORTH EAST COAST of TURKEY opposite RUSSIA. TRABZON is more of an URBAN BUSINESS hub with great creativity, beautiful food, nightclubs, drinking a lot of alcohol and reportedly the largest number of PROSTITUTES [allegedly from RUSSIA?] of any city in TURKEY. Interestingly enough, PRIME MINISTER of the ISLAMIC PARTY, ERDOĞAN hails from this METROPOLIS of FUN, DANCING and MUSIC up the coast in RIZE which is famous for growing delicious TURKISH TEA in hilly tea gardens in the hot humid summer weather. Both RİZE and TRABZON are AVID CENTRES for LAZ MUSIC, LAZ being a local GEORGIAN-DERIVED LANGUAGE which has sadly declined in the area due to the promotion of the NEW TURKISH LANGUAGE. It still exists in the VILLAGES and hopefully the people will, like the WELSH, try to revive the LAZ LANGUAGE through PROJECTS to teach YOUTH the dialect. LAZ POPULAR MUSIC LAZ MUSIC is a style of FOLK or usually FOLK-POP MUSIC in TURKEY and is mainly sung in TURKISH rather than the local language nowadays. The music has two main styles...TÜRKÜ which means a sad BALLAD and the other is FAST COMICAL STYLES with ridiculous words making fun of local or sometimes with LAZ SINGERS like İSMAİL TÜRÜT, songs that are NATIONAL TOPIC POLITICAL like his song 'KRİZ' in 2000 concerning alleged THEFT of PUBLIC FUNDS by the GOVERNMENT that caused an economic collapse in TURKEY at that time. But the song had lyrics telling the horrified TURKISH PUBLIC to, "REJOICE AND HOPE THIS IS OUR BEST AND BIGGEST CRISIS YET!"...such is the nature of some COMIC LAZ SONGS. THE HORON Apart from great TALENT, STYLE and PRIDE in their FOLK and POP-FOLK MUSIC in the BLACK SEA REGION, they also have an OUTSTANDING FOLK DANCE called 'THE HORON'. It is a fast and FURIOUS dance with SHAKING the SHOULDERS on the AXIS of the BACK with the ARMS HANGING outstretched. There is tremendous COMPLICATED FOOTWORK and it is done in a LINE formation. The SHAKING motion is said to have come from the movement of ANCHOVY fish in the sea. The dance has migrated to GREECE and even as far away as IRELAND some observers quote. INSTRUMENTS of LAZ MUSIC KERMANÇE is a three stringed FIDDLE with a MIDDLE RANGE and SHARP TIMBRE ZURNA is a traditional OBOE TULUM is a traditional DRONELESS BAGPIPE ABDULLAH KARAMAN Biographical information on this LAZ ARTIST is not available. KARAMAN in from the BLACK SEA AREA. He has a number of LIVE TV and WEDDING PERFORMANCES Online and a number of POP VIDEOS and FOUR CDs. ABDULLAH KARAMAN is a TALANTED MUSICIAN in the STUDIO rather than LIVE. He has an ability to CREATE a thick 'wall of sound' with the MULTI-TRACK STUDIO and RECORD his VOCALS in CREATIVE WAYS with DOUBLE TRACKING and CHORUSING that make for really quite UNIQUE and SUMPTUOUS AURAL experiences of LAZ MUSIC, which can be quite STARK and even HARSH in TIMBRE. KARAMAN'S album 'CANANIN'['LOVE OF MY LIFE'] has a WIDE VARIETY of LAZ SONGS presented in such DIVERSE and RICH FORMATS. KARAMAN has really FLAIR for LAZ MUSIC in the STUDIO and is sadly not CELEBRATED in TURKISH MUSIC CULTURE as he should be, probably due to SNOBBERY and 'KRO' CULTURE ['KRO' being a word from the cities as a put-down for not recording Western style music]. 'BALLI YARİM' is a much more RECENT song of KARAMAN. It has the frequent COMIC PARODY ELEMENT of ABDULLAH as an older gentleman but driving along in his sports car as a 'PLAYBOY' and dreaming of all of these YOUNG BEAUTIES in BIKINIS who are BELLY DANCING in the BLACK SEA and on CRANES. BELLY DANCE, ARABIC MUSIC and LAZ POP 'HONEYED HALF' is a SYNTHESIS between LAZ FAST SYLLABLE LYRICS that follow the STROKES of the KERMANÇE and BRIDGES and CADENCES [musical full stops making the ends of phrases and sections] that have ARABIC-STYLE STRINGS and ZURNA OBOE that allow the GIRLS opportunties to SHAKE to the HORON BEAT and SLITHER their bodies to the ARABIC SEDUCTIVE GLIDINGS...This HYBRID of ARABIC and LAZ was first heard in the 2000s in the CD 'LAZEDEKE' which was purely INSTRUMENTAL dance music. Later DAVUT GÜLOĞLU produced LAZ POP albums that combined LAZ + ARABIC and LAZ + PUNJABI BHANGRA. STRINGS that are NOT VIOLINS The CURIOUS thing in 'BALLI YARİM' is that the 'STRINGS' we hear seem to be KERMANÇE played as VIOLINS rather than actual ORCHESTRAL STRINGS. This is done by MULTI-TRACKING the same player many times and then mixing the recordings together. This was done first by LAZ singer CİMILLİ İBO on his 2002 'HASRET HEPİMİZ' album.- published: 13 Oct 2013
