Shara-bune Spirit Boat ～Mid-summer Day in Nishinoshima～ Oki Islands Geopark, Iapan Nishinoshima, It's a mysterious island that is floating on sea of Japan. It's one of Oki Islands located in 65km north-west of Shimane peninsula, as a part of Daisen-Oki National Park. It has a calm island sea as a caldera,(this kind of island sea is rare in the world) and sea caves, one of the largest costal cliffs in Japan, in coastal areas. Beautiful sea and great nature there since ancient age... there is an amazing world that you can feel spirits of nature. the boat that is introduced in the movie clip is called "Shara-bune", means "Spirit Boats". they say that it's one of the biggest spirit boats in the world. Approximately 10,000 years ago global warming caused the sea level to rise, and sea water entered the caldera, creating the Inner Sea. Strong north-west winds and waves from the Sea of Japan have gradually eroded the coastline, creating what is now the impressive landscape of the Kuniga Coast. Mt. Takuhi, the center of the volcanic cone, is located on the Inner Sea side. There are many calm, small port areas nearby, each with a long history. The magnificent landscapes of Nishinoshima Island are something very special. People of the Oki Islands should be proud of this and share this beauty with the world. Nishinoshima,Oki Islands Aerial Shot by Ar.Drone ～Takuhi Shrine～ Mt. Takuhi is the central pyroclastic cone of the Dozen Caldera, and the tallest mountain in the Dozen Islands (452m). Close to the summit of the mountain is the main building of the Takuhi Shrine, which is partially inside of a cave! The Takuhi Shrine is the oldest shrine building in the Oki Islands, and has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. This shrine is dedicated to the deity of safe sea voyages, and so people have come here to pray for safety at sea since long ago.
