KAREL LAMAČ (1987-1952), dlouhou dobu pracující v Německu, byl donucen odejít před hitlerovským fašismem nejprve do Francie a posléze do Velké Británie, kde se dále věnoval filmové režii. Jeho film Švejk bourá Německo z roku 1943 vznikl pod vlivem válečných okolností a byl určen hlavně britskému publiku. Snad také proto se vyznění svébytného českého hrdiny Haškovy humoristické předlohy vymyká jeho tradičnímu způsobu zobrazení. Přenáší ho do tehdejší válečné reality a souhrou náhod z něj učiní vojenského sluhu velitele gestapa, čímž se Švejk dostává k příležitosti zachránit mnoho lidí před deportací do koncentračních táborů. Lamač tedy není veden pohnutkou autorské interpretace jako spíše potřebou propagandistického působení. To ostatně zdůrazňuje i ministr zahraničí Jan Masaryk, jehož úvodní slovo bylo k této komedii přidáno v roce 1947, kdy byla uvedena do čs. filmové distribuce

Harvard Square
Harvard Square is near the center of Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. It refers to both the triangular plaza at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue, Brattle Street, and John F. Kennedy Street; as well as the business district and Harvard University surrounding that intersection. It is the historic center of Cambridge. Adjacent to Harvard Yard, the historic heart of Harvard University, the Square (as it is sometimes called locally) functions as a commercial center for Harvard students, as well as residents of western Cambridge and the inner western and northern suburbs of Boston. Iain Duncan Smith
George Iain Duncan Smith (born 9 April 1954), often referred to by his initials IDS, is a British Conservative Party politician. The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions since 2010, he was previously the Leader of the Conservative Party and Leader of the Opposition from 2001 to 2003. He was first elected to Parliament in 1992 as the MP for Chingford, and he has represented its successor constituency of Chingford and Woodford Green since 1997.
Duncan Smith was born in Edinburgh and served in the Scots Guards from 1975 to 1981, seeing tours in Northern Ireland and Rhodesia. He joined the Conservative Party in 1981, and was elected as a Member of Parliament in 1992. Duncan Smith succeeded William Hague as Conservative Leader in 2001, winning the leadership election partly on the support of Margaret Thatcher for his Eurosceptic ideology. Duncan Smith was the first Catholic to serve as a Conservative Leader, and the first to be born in Scotland since Arthur Balfour. In 2010, The Tablet named him one of Britain’s most influential Catholics.

John Gielgud
Sir Arthur John Gielgud OM CH (/ˈɡiːlɡʊd/; 14 April 1904 – 21 May 2000), was an English actor and theatre director whose career spanned eight decades. With Ralph Richardson and Laurence Olivier, he was one of the trinity of actors who dominated the British stage for much of the 20th century. A member of the Terry family theatrical dynasty, he gained his first paid acting work as a junior member of his cousin Phyllis Neilson-Terry's company in 1922. After studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art he worked in repertory theatre and in the West End before establishing himself at the Old Vic as an exponent of Shakespeare in 1929–31.
During the 1930s Gielgud was a stage star in the West End and on Broadway, appearing in new works and classics. He began a parallel career as a director, and set up his own company at the Queen's Theatre, London. He was regarded by many as the finest Hamlet of his era, and was also known for high comedy roles such as John Worthing in The Importance of Being Earnest. In the 1950s Gielgud feared that his career was threatened when he was convicted and fined for a homosexual offence, but his colleagues and the public supported him loyally. When avant-garde plays began to supersede traditional West End productions in the later 1950s he found no new suitable stage roles, and for several years he was best known in the theatre for his one-man Shakespeare show, The Ages of Man. From the late 1960s he found new plays that suited him, by authors including Alan Bennett, David Storey and Harold Pinter.

Score the fatty part of the ham by cutting in about 1/3rd inch into the fat. Make your cuts lengthwise about 1 inch apart, turn the ham and cut again to form diamonds. Place the ham in a roasting pan and cover the pan. If you do not have a cover tent it with foil. Place in the oven for 90 minutes. Place the brown sugar, honey, mustard and cloves in a pot and stir it until the sugar is dissolved. Work on medium heat. Once it is dissolves let it simmer until the glaze reduces and thickens a bit. Stir occasionally. Remove the ham from the oven and brush it with all of the sauce. Cover it and place it in the oven for another 30 minutes. Remove and baste with the pan juices, cover and return to the oven for another 30 minutes. Remove the ham and baste and put back in the oven uncovered for about 20 minutes. The internal temperature of your ham should be at 140 degrees F or 60 C. Allow the ham to sit for about 15 minutes so all the juices settle before you carve it. FOR THE GRAVY: The entire pan juices ½ to ¾ cup whole milk ½ cup all-purpose flour Place the roasting pan on two of your burners (or move the juices to a pot) and turn them onto low heat. Remove the cloves and any pieces of skin that might have fallen into the pan. Whisk in ½ a cup of milk and mix well. Vigorously whisk in the flour and whisk until the lumps disappear. Don’t worry about the initial lumps, as they will dissolve as you whisk. Cook the gravy for 3 to 4 minutes until the flour is cooked. If the gravy is too thick add the remaining milk and whisk in. Whisk constantly. Turn off the heat and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve with your sliced ham. Friday the Thirteenth is a 1933 British drama film directed by Victor Saville and starring Jessie Matthews, Sonnie Hale and Muriel Aked. The film depicts the lives of several passengers in the hours before they are involved in a bus crash.
In London, near midnight as a rain storm rages, several people travel across the city on a bus. Of the passengers, one elderly woman seems anxious and upset, a young man who has just been robbed by a pickpocket gratefully accepts money for his fare from another passenger, another man boasts of his knowledge of art, and a young woman angrily destroys a photo of a man. When a lightning strike causes the bus to crash, each passenger recalls what brought them on the ill-fated journey.

Serves twelve
1 – 10 pound, bone in smoked ham
1 ½ cup light brown sugar
1-cup honey
1 TBS prepared mustard (you can use Dijon or yellow if you want)
4 to 5 whole cloves
Heat oven to 350 degrees F (176 C).
Score the fatty part of the ham by cutting in about 1/3rd inch into the fat. Make your cuts lengthwise about 1 inch apart, turn the ham and cut again to form diamonds.
Place the ham in a roasting pan and cover the pan. If you do not have a cover tent it with foil. Place in the oven for 90 minutes.
Place the brown sugar, honey, mustard and cloves in a pot and stir it until the sugar is dissolved. Work on medium heat. Once it is dissolves let it simmer until the glaze reduces and thickens a bit. Stir occasionally.
Remove the ham from the oven and brush it with all of the sauce. Cover it and place it in the oven for another 30 minutes. Remove and baste with the pan juices, cover and return to the oven for another 30 minutes. Remove the ham and baste and put back in the oven uncovered for about 20 minutes. The internal temperature of your ham should be at 140 degrees F or 60 C. Allow the ham to sit for about 15 minutes so all the juices settle before you carve it.
FOR THE GRAVY:
The entire pan juices
½ to ¾ cup whole milk
½ cup all-purpose flour
Place the roasting pan on two of your burners (or move the juices to a pot) and turn them onto low heat. Remove the cloves and any pieces of skin that might have fallen into the pan.
Whisk in ½ a cup of milk and mix well. Vigorously whisk in the flour and whisk until the lumps disappear. Don’t worry about the initial lumps, as they will dissolve as you whisk. Cook the gravy for 3 to 4 minutes until the flour is cooked. If the gravy is too thick add the remaining milk and whisk in. Whisk constantly. Turn off the heat and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve with your sliced ham.

The word quiche comes from French, which ultimately borrowed the word from Lorraine Franconian Küeche 'cake' (cf. German Kuchen).[1] Central Franconian typically unrounded the ü (/y/) and shifted the fricative "ch" (/ç/) to "sh" ([ʃ]), resulting in "kishe", which in standard French spelling gives "quiche."[2]
History
Although known as a classic French dish, the quiche originated in Germany. The word quiche means "cake" which came from the German word Kuchen. Today, quiche is considered as typically French. However, savoury custards in pastry were known in English cuisine at least as early as the fourteenth century. Recipes for custards baked in pastry containing meat, fish and fruit are referred to Crustardes of flessh and Crustade in the fourteenth-century The Forme of Cury[3] and in fifteenth-century cookbooks as well
Quiche lorraine is a popular variant that was originally an open pie with a filling of custard with smoked bacon or lardons. It was only later that cheese was added to the quiche lorraine.[5] The addition of Gruyère cheese makes a quiche au gruyère or a quiche vosgienne. The 'quiche alsacienne' is similar to the 'quiche lorraine', though onions are added to the recipe. The bottom crust was originally made from bread dough,[citation needed] but that has since evolved into a short-crust or puff pastry crust that is often baked using a springform pan.
The origin of quiche lorraine is rural and the original quiche lorraine had a rustic style: it was cooked in a cast-iron pan and the pastry edges were not crimped. Today, quiche lorraine is served throughout France and has a modern look with a crimped pastry crust. In France, the version is unlike that served in the United States; the bacon is cubed, no onions are added and the custard base is thicker.

Friday the Thirteenth is a 1933 British drama film directed by Victor Saville and starring Jessie Matthews, Sonnie Hale and Muriel Aked. The film depicts the lives of several passengers in the hours before they are involved in a bus crash.
In London, near midnight as a rain storm rages, several people travel across the city on a bus. Of the passengers, one elderly woman seems anxious and upset, a young man who has just been robbed by a pickpocket gratefully accepts money for his fare from another passenger, another man boasts of his knowledge of art, and a young woman angrily destroys a photo of a man. When a lightning strike causes the bus to crash, each passenger recalls what brought them on the ill-fated journey.

Serves twelve
1 – 10 pound, bone in smoked ham
1 ½ cup light brown sugar
1-cup honey
1 TBS prepared mustard (you can use Dijon or yellow if you want)
4 to 5 whole cloves
Heat oven to 350 degrees F (176 C).
Score the fatty part of the ham by cutting in about 1/3rd inch into the fat. Make your cuts lengthwise about 1 inch apart, turn the ham and cut again to form diamonds.
Place the ham in a roasting pan and cover the pan. If you do not have a cover tent it with foil. Place in the oven for 90 minutes.
Place the brown sugar, honey, mustard and cloves in a pot and stir it until the sugar is dissolved. Work on medium heat. Once it is dissolves let it simmer until the glaze reduces and thickens a bit. Stir occasionally.
Remove the ham from the oven and brush it with all of the sauce. Cover it and place it in the oven for another 30 minutes. Remove and baste with the pan juices, cover and return to the oven for another 30 minutes. Remove the ham and baste and put back in the oven uncovered for about 20 minutes. The internal temperature of your ham should be at 140 degrees F or 60 C. Allow the ham to sit for about 15 minutes so all the juices settle before you carve it.
FOR THE GRAVY:
The entire pan juices
½ to ¾ cup whole milk
½ cup all-purpose flour
Place the roasting pan on two of your burners (or move the juices to a pot) and turn them onto low heat. Remove the cloves and any pieces of skin that might have fallen into the pan.
Whisk in ½ a cup of milk and mix well. Vigorously whisk in the flour and whisk until the lumps disappear. Don’t worry about the initial lumps, as they will dissolve as you whisk. Cook the gravy for 3 to 4 minutes until the flour is cooked. If the gravy is too thick add the remaining milk and whisk in. Whisk constantly. Turn off the heat and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve with your sliced ham.

The word quiche comes from French, which ultimately borrowed the word from Lorraine Franconian Küeche 'cake' (cf. German Kuchen).[1] Central Franconian typically unrounded the ü (/y/) and shifted the fricative "ch" (/ç/) to "sh" ([ʃ]), resulting in "kishe", which in standard French spelling gives "quiche."[2]

Quiche lorraine is a popular variant that was originally an open pie with a filling of custard with smoked bacon or lardons. It was only later that cheese was added to the quiche lorraine.[5] The addition of Gruyère cheese makes a quiche au gruyère or a quiche vosgienne. The 'quiche alsacienne' is similar to the 'quiche lorraine', though onions are added to the recipe. The bottom crust was originally made from bread dough,[citation needed] but that has since evolved into a short-crust or puff pastry crust that is often baked using a springform pan.
The origin of quiche lorraine is rural and the original quiche lorraine had a rustic style: it was cooked in a cast-iron pan and the pastry edges were not crimped. Friday the Thirteenth is a 1933 British drama film directed by Victor Saville and starring Jessie Matthews, Sonnie Hale and Muriel Aked. The film depicts the lives of several passengers in the hours before they are involved in a bus crash.
In London, near midnight as a rain storm rages, several people travel across the city on a bus. Of the passengers, one elderly woman seems anxious and upset, a young man who has just been robbed by a pickpocket gratefully accepts money for his fare from another passenger, another man boasts of his knowledge of art, and a young woman angrily destroys a photo of a man. When a lightning strike causes the bus to crash, each passenger recalls what brought them on the ill-fated journey.
