For more information you can visit www.lotussangha.org 7667 June 6, 2013 Lotus Buddhist Monastery All sentient beings who live in this world have been for many thousand of kalpas revolving in the Wheel of Samsara. Caught endlessly in this cycle, life is full of bewilderment and confusion on this Path of Samsara, going up and down like a bucket in the well. Such is the nature of life, especially, because all compound things are impermanent. They are therefore empty and seem to be disappearing. But to think that way would be a big misunderstanding. Impermanence means that a new life is always going to appear, by receiving a new form and being born in the place of Buddha (the Absolute, the Truth), which is our original mind and true "I". This place seems to be empty. However, everything is created and exists in that emptiness. That is why it is difficult to give that power, which is all powerful, a name. That power which is called Buddha's power is actually not Buddha's power. But it is therefore very clearly power, so it is called the power of Buddha. It is therefore possible to escape from the many kalpas of the up and down motion of a bucket in a well if this power of Buddha is realized and attained. Life can then be lived the way it is chosen, and thus be taken to dwell always in the realm of emancipation. A form is received of our own choosing, and hence born into this or another world. Thus with every birth, wherever that may be, the ultimate goal is always to save sentient beings. With this noble and pure virtue, a life of appreciation can be chosen. On the other hand, a decision can be taken to go into Ultimate Nirvana and never receive a form again. That is why death is not really death. Death means to be born again, and so a practitioner should not be insecure. If suffering exists in this present life because of negative karma from the past lives, then all that has to be done is to repent to Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. As a result, whatever was not accomplished in this life can be received in the next life. What is actually required is to accumulate much virtue and live life according to the teaching of Buddha. With such boddhisattva action, each day can be a most meaningful existence filled with hope and devoid of any disappointments. One will thus not descend down into the realms of despair and desolation. The Law of the Universe states that suffering is the seed of Nirvana, and agonies and worries are the seed of wisdom. And so, every day, we should live every moment in the maha ban ya pa ra milta way, which means committing to engage in action guided by Great Wisdom.
