Did you know .. Jeevan Jyoti 1953 was debut film of Shammi Kapoor and Chand Usmani. This song was the first song that Asha Bhosle sang under S D Burman’s direction Chand Usmani :- Chand Usmani entered films via a talent contest (Kolynos Toothpaste Smile). Producer/Director A.R. Kardar was a co-sponsor, and he selected her as the leading lady opposite Shammi Kapoor for his upcoming film Jeevan Jyoti (1953). Incidentally, Jeevan Jyoti was also Shammi Kapoor’s first film. But later all she got was secondary roles and for no discernible reasons. Yet Chand continued to give vivid portrayals whatever the role and continued working till the late 1980s. She also won Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her role in Pehchan (1970). In the super hit film 'Khilona' in which Sanjeev Kumar acted in leading role in 1970, Chand Usmani acted as the character Laxmi Singh. In the film 'Ujala Hi Ujala'(74), she portrayed mother's role and acted as mother of Yogita Bali's character Anuradha. She presented excellent acting skill along with Shabana Azmi in the 1976 classic movie 'Kadambari'.In the 1977 super hit movie of Manmohan Desai 'Parvarish' in which Amitabh Bachchan,Shammi Kapoor,Neetu Singh,Shabana Azmi,Vinod Khanna,Amjad Khan,Kader Khan' etc acted, Chand Usmani acted skilfully as the mother of Neetu and Shabu(Neetu Singh and Shabana Azmi). She had well noted character role in another super hit film of Amitabh Bachchan-Neetu Singh pair 'Yaarana' in 1981 and yet another film 'Pukar'(83) in which Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman were the main pair. She acted as mother of Suraj(Raj Babbar) in the film 'Zakhmi Aurat'(88). Chand Usmai died in 1989 at Mumbai. Storyline :- Young and handsome Shammi [Shammi Kapoor]and beautiful Kishori [Chand Usmani]are in love, and despite of their circumstances, marry and live in wedded bliss for a short period of time, and then start having differences. Even the birth of a baby boy does not bridge their differences, and eventually Kishori leaves to go to live with her dad, Baba. Shammi and his mom keep the baby with them. Kishori misses the baby, and eventually drives herself to serious illness, which can only be cured when she has the baby with her all the time. Written by rAjOo
