Moritz (Maurice, Maurycy) Moszkowski (23 August 1854 – 4 March 1925) was a German Jewishcomposer, pianist, and teacher of Polish descent. His brother Alexander Moszkowski (1851–1934) was a famous writer and satirist in Berlin. Ignacy Paderewski said, "After Chopin, Moszkowski best understands how to write for the piano". Although little known today, Moszkowski was well respected and popular during the late nineteenth century.

He was born in Breslau, Prussia (now the Polish city Wrocław) into a Jewish family and studied music in Breslau, Dresden and Berlin, under Theodor Kullak and others. He was a teacher in Berlin for many years, and became very friendly with Xaver and Philipp Scharwenka. He also played four-hand pieces with Franz Liszt. He was an ardent Jew, at a time when many Jews downplayed their Jewishness. His pupils included Frank Damrosch, Joaquín Nin, Ernest Schelling and Joaquín Turina. He also claimed that Josef Hofmann was his student, although at other times he said there was nothing anyone could teach him, so this claim is uncertain. After a successful career as a concert pianist and conductor, he settled in Paris in 1897. During this time (1887), he was awarded honorary membership of the Royal Philharmonic Society in London.

Draga Matkovic (also known as Draga Matković-von Auerhann) (born 4 November 1907) is a contemporary German classical pianist of Croatian origin.

Matkovic was born in Zagreb. She received her first piano lessons at the age of three from her strict adoptive mother, Sidonie Linke (also a pianist) in Aussig (Bohemia) and gave her first public concert in Terezín, then Theresienstadt. With special permission from the government, she was admitted at age 15 to the German Music Academy of Prague and qualified aged 19 with the title of "professor of piano". She also took violin and singing lessons.

In 1926, she first toured as a piano soloist to Poland, and later to other 16 European countries. After her marriage to the violinist Arthur Arnold (1937–1942) she moved to Teplice (formally Teplitz-Schönau) in Bohemia where she was very successful as chamber musician and with orchestral concerts. During World War II she performed for German soldiers in Norway and other countries, on behalf of the German propaganda ministry. Just after the war began, her conductor was imprisoned as Draga Matkovic was performing a concerto by Felix Mendelssohn, whose music was prohibited as non-Aryan. During the two last years of the war she was forbidden by the German authorities to play in public, because she wanted to perform Tchaikovsky's B flat minor piano concerto. In 1945, following her displacement from the Sudetenland, Matkovic found a new home in Bad Reichenhall, Bavaria, where she still lives today.

Norbert Huber (born 3 September 1964 in Bruneck, South Tyrol) is an Italian luger who competed from the early 1980s to the late 1990s. Competing in four Winter Olympics, he won two medals in the men's doubles event with a silver in 1994 and a bronze in 1992.

Huber also won ten medals at the FIL World Luge Championships in with two gold (Mixed team: 1989, Men's doubles: 1990), four silvers (Men's doubles: 1983, 1989, 1993; Mixed team: 1990), and four bronzes (Men's singles: 1999, Men's doubles: 1991, Mixed team: 1991, 1993).

He also won eleven medals in the FIL European Luge Championships with three gold (Men's doubles: 1992, 1994; Mixed team: 1994), four silvers (Men's singles: 1984, 1992; Men's doubles: 1988, 1990), and four bronzes (Men's singles: 1998, Men's doubles: 1984, 1986; Mixed team: 1988).

Huber also won 26 World Cup races and ten overall Luge World Cup titles (men's singles: 1984-5, 1985-6, 1986-7; men's doubles: 1984-5, 1985-6, 1988-9, 1989-90, 1990-1, 1991-2, 1992-3).

Michael Ponti (born October 29, 1937 at Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany) is a concert and recording pianist.

Ponti was born in Germany, but has lived in the United States for most of his life. He studied piano in Washington DC with Gilmour McDonald from 1954 to 1955, McDonald having been a pupil of the legendary virtuoso Leopold Godowsky.

From 1951 to 1953 Ponti attended DeMatha Catholic High School. He graduated from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, in 1955. Then he studied with Erich Flinsch (who had been a pupil of and an assistant to Emil von Sauer) in Frankfurt from 1955 to 1961.

In 1964, Ponti won first prize in the Busoni-Wettbewerb piano contest in Italy. Soon afterward, he made his Vienna debut by performing the solo part in Bartók's 2nd Piano Concerto, with Wolfgang Sawallisch conducting. Since then, he has toured quite widely, including a 1977 visit to Australia. Also in 1977, he founded his own trio (with violinist Robert Zimansky and cellist Jan Polasek).

Ponti is fondly remembered by a generation of music lovers for his wide-ranging recordings of the unknown romantic repertoire on the Vox Records|Vox and Candide labels. He recorded a series of concertos, many of which had never been recorded before, and some of which have been unrecorded since, by such composers as Clara Schumann, Ignaz Moscheles, Charles-Valentin Alkan, Sigismond Thalberg, Moritz Moszkowski and Hans Bronsart von Schellendorff. In addition, he committed to disc the complete piano music of Scriabin, much of which was otherwise unavailable then, though it has since been recorded by Vladimir Ashkenazy and Piers Lane. He also recorded the complete piano music of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff. His output amounts to more than 80 discs, and much of his output has been released on CD.
