Backbeat
Backbeat is the story of how the Beatles 'became' the Beatles—when John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe embarked on their journey from the famous docks of Liverpool to search for success in the seedy red light district of Hamburg. The compelling triangular relationship between the band's original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe, the striking German photographer Astrid Kirchherr with whom he fell in love, and his best friend John Lennon, became an intrinsic part of The Beatles' story—and put them on an unstoppable trajectory onto the world stage. Directed by the award-winning David Leveaux, Backbeat features all-time rock 'n' roll classics including Love Me Do, PS I Love You, Twist & Shout, Rock 'N' Roll Music, Long Tall Sally, Please Mr Postman and Money—live on stage as performed by 'The Beatles'. Puss In Boots | Salma Hayek & Antonio Banderas talk about shaking their butts....
[BlackTree TV - Los Angeles] Shawn Edwards sits down with two of the hottest latin stars on the screen, Mr. Antonio Banderas and Ms. Selma Hayek to talk about their voices in the new movie "Puss In Boots", which has been #1 in the box office for 2 consecutive weeks. Long before he even met Shrek, the notorious fighter, lover and outlaw Puss in Boots (ANTONIO BANDERAS) becomes a hero when he sets off on an adventure with the tough and street smart Kitty Softpaws (SALMA HAYEK) and the mastermind Humpty Dumpty (ZACH GALIFIANAKIS) to save his town. Complicating matters along the way are the notorious outlaws Jack and Jill (BILLY BOB THORNTON and AMY SEDARIS), who will do anything to see that Puss and his band do not succeed. This is the true story of The Cat, The Myth, The Legend...and, of course, The Boots. Since his introduction to American cinema in the highly acclaimed "Mambo Kings," ANTONIO BANDERAS (Puss in Boots) is irrefutably one of the leading international actors of his generation. He has received critical praise for his performances in film, television and theater, as well as behind the scenes as a feature film director. In 2005, he was honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His second directorial feature is the Spanish film "El Camino De Los Ingleses" (titled "Summer Rain" in the US). A coming-of-age story, the film follows the first loves, lusts and obsessions of friends on vacation at the end of the 1970s. He made his directorial debut with "Crazy ...

Backbeat - Show Trailer - Duke of York's Theatre
Cheap tickets for Backbeat are available at wos.im Backbeat - the adaptation of the 1994 film by Iain Softley on the birth of the Beatles - will be rock 'n' rolling its way to London's Duke of York Theatre for its West End premiere from October. Backbeat is the story of how The Beatles 'became' The Beatles - when John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe embarked on their journey from the famous docks of Liverpool to search for success in the seedy red light district of Hamburg, working eight days a week, in the clubs of the tawdry Reeperbahn, performing rock 'n' roll covers night after night. The compelling triangular relationship between the band's original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe, the striking German photographer Astrid Kirchherr whom he fell in love with, and his best friend John Lennon, became an intrinsic part of the Beatles' story - and put them on an unstoppable trajectory onto the world stage. Stuart's struggle between his best friend and the band, Astrid and his art, makes Stuart the troubled focus of Backbeat. His death, aged only 22, in the same year that the Beatles appointed Brian Epstein as manager, signed to Parlophone Records by Sir George Martin, and released their first single 'Love Me Do', adds to the poignancy of this remarkable and vivid portrait of the early 1960's. Backbeat features the all-time rock 'n' roll classics that the Beatles cut their teeth with including Twist and Shout, Rock 'N' Roll Music, Long Tall ...

Tales of Ballycumber
Tales of Ballycumber by Sebastian Barry Showing on the Abbey Stage WORLD PREMIERE Directed by David Leveaux Set & Costume Design by Mike Britton Video Design by Dick Straker Composition by Corin Buckeridge Daffodils are in bloom as dawn breaks over the foothills of Ballycumber, ushering in hope for a new day and stirring the ghosts of a past fraught with sorrow, isolation and emptiness. Setting out in search of advice on a budding love interest, young Evans Stafford calls to the home of his friend Nicholas Farquhar. The following morning the local boy is found bloodied, note in hand. What is said during their brief encounter to fracture innocence and compel him to violence? As Farquhar struggles to come to terms with his actions and their devastating consequences he discovers that his memories and words are governed by a force greater than himself a buried history that propels both men towards a desperate and inevitable climax. This world premiere from Sebastian Barry is a startling and intimate portrayal of two unlikely companions connected more closely than they realise, both haunted by the plague of solitude and the Tales of Ballycumber. We are delighted to welcome the twice Booker-nominated author of The Secret Scripture (the Hughes & Hughes Irish Novel of the Year 2009 and winner of the 2008 Costa Book of the Year Award) back to the Abbey as part of this years Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival.
