Dudley (i/ˈdʌdli/) is a large town in the West Midlands of England, 6 miles (9.7 km) south-east of Wolverhampton and 8 miles (13 km) north-west of Birmingham. The town is the administrative centre of the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley and in 2011 had a population of 83,727. The Metropolitan Borough, which includes the towns of Stourbridge and Halesowen, had a population of 312,900. Dudley is sometimes called the capital of the Black Country.
Originally a market town, Dudley was one of the birthplaces of the Industrial Revolution and grew into an industrial centre in the 19th century with its iron, coal, and limestone industries before their decline and the relocation of its commercial centre to the nearby Merry Hill Shopping Centre in the 1980s. Tourist attractions include Dudley Zoo, Dudley Castle, the Black Country Living Museum and the historic marketplace.
Dudley has a history dating back to Anglo-Saxon times, its name deriving from the Old English Duddan Leah, meaning Dudda's clearing, and one of its churches being named in honour of the Anglo-Saxon King and Saint, Edmund.
Charles is a masculine given name from the French form Charles of a Germanic name Karl. The original Anglo-Saxon was Ċearl or Ċeorl, as the name of king Cearl of Mercia, that disappeared after the Norman conquest of England.
The corresponding Old Norse form is Karl, the German form is also Karl. The name was notably borne by Charlemagne (Charles the Great), and was at the time Latinized as Karolus (as in Vita Karoli Magni), later also as Carolus.
The name's etymology is a Common Germanic noun *karlaz meaning "free man", which survives in English as churl (< Old English ċeorl), which developed its deprecating sense in the Middle English period.
In the form Charles, the initial spelling ch- corresponds to the palatalization of the Latin group ca- to [tʃa] in Central Old French (Francien) and the final -s to the former subjective case (cas sujet) of masculine names in Old French like in Giles or James (< Latin -us, see Spanish/ Portuguese Carlos).
According to Julius Pokorny, the historical linguist and Indo-Europeanist, the root meaning of Karl is "old man", from Indo-European *ĝer-, where the ĝ is a palatal consonant, meaning "to rub; to be old; grain." An old man has been worn away and is now grey with age.

In this 2013 interview of Guyana-born painter/draughtsman Dudley Charles by the perceptive New York art critic Robert Mahoney, we are ushered into a relatively new relationship between 'artist & model' under Mahoney's delving questions and Dudley's expanding answers. Mahoney's observations and alert deductions of the artist's large graphic paper works: 'Throop Venus # 1'; 'R M H # 1'; 'Seawall'; 'Blue Woman' series; 'Blue Venus' # 1', etc, allow us to hear and see how the artist has nurtured and taken possession of intuitive and transparent formal values to arrive at this series of brilliant drawings. The figurative, yet elusive quality of Dudley's large drawings of women randomly invited to model during the artist's limited time in a Brooklyn studio, yields a cohesive result of the femal...

Hello guys, well then, this video is all about the beauty of fire. Initially, some of you requested that I would make just a video with matches, but I got totally carried away with it :-D. Lighting matches one by one, was pretty relaxing for myself, I discovered. After that, I did some research about fire and I stumbled across the Greek mythology, especially about Hephaestus and Prometheus. So I added some images and some whispering about that too. Just don't take this too seriously though, because there are so many versions about it that nothing seems to be really true or false in these myths. I assembled some parts together which i thought would just seem nice. Hope to hear from you, especially those who requested this. Thanks! ◤(¬‿¬)◥ 3:00 Matchbox sounds 15:03 Lighting matches 35:40 ...
