Omar Aziz nacque a Damasco. Rientrò in Siria dal suo esilio in Arabia Saudita e negli Stati Uniti nei primi giorni della rivoluzione siriana. Intellettuale, economista, anarchico, marito e padre, all'età di 63 anni si è impegnato nella lotta rivoluzionaria. Lavorò con attivisti locali per raccogliere e distribuire aiuti umanitari nei sobborghi di Damasco, posti sotto assedio dal regime. Attraverso scritti ed attività ha promosso l'autogoverno locale, l'organizzazione orizzontale, la cooperazione, la solidarietà e il mutuo sostegno, quali mezzi attraverso i quali le persone possono liberarsi dalla tirannia dello Stato. Insieme con i suoi compagni, Aziz fondò il primo Consiglio Locale a Barzeh, Damasco. L'esempio si è poi diffuso attraverso la Siria e con esso sono nati alcuni dei più promettenti e duraturi esempi di autorganizzazione non gerarchica nei paesi della Primavera araba. Finalmente, el gobierno se sentó a negociar a nivel nacional con dirigentes del paro agrario y popular que ha sacudido a Colombia desde el día 19 de Agosto. Esta reunión ha ocurrido después de semanas de dura represión contra los campesinos, en la cual se ha dado un tratamiento militar a la justa protesta social, dejando un saldo de, al menos, 12 muertos, más de 500 heridos (muchos de ellos mutilados) y cientos de detenidos. Al final de cuentas, el gobierno negocia pero no de buena fe. Su negociador estrella es Angelino Garzón, el mismo que en su condición de ex sindicalista, impulsó el TLC con EEUU ante la oposición de los sindicatos de ese país, que cuestionaban el asesinato de sindicalistas en Colombia. El gobierno de Santos negocia con sangre en sus manos y tendrá, tarde o temprano, que dar la cara a las víctimas.
