Sound Beach, New York

Sound Beach, established in 1929, is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the north part of the Town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population of the CDP was 7,612 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Sound Beach is located at 40°57′25″N 72°58′15″W / 40.95694°N 72.97083°W / 40.95694; -72.97083 (40.956986, -72.970765). It is bordered on the north by Long Island Sound, by Rocky Point to the east, and Miller Place to the west.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.2 km²), all land.

Demographics of the CDP

As of the census of 2000, there were 9,807 people, 3,358 households, and 2,612 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 3,691.1 per square mile (1,423.5/km²). There were 3,640 housing units at an average density of 1,370.0/sq mi (528.4/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 96.22% White, 0.63% African American, 0.14% Native American, 1.19% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.69% from other races, and 1.05% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.48% of the population.

Sound

In physics, sound is a vibration that propagates as a typically audible mechanical wave of pressure and displacement, through a medium such as air or water. In physiology and psychology, sound is the reception of such waves and their perception by the brain.

Acoustics

Acoustics is the interdisciplinary science that deals with the study of mechanical waves in gases, liquids, and solids including vibration, sound, ultrasound, and infrasound. A scientist who works in the field of acoustics is an acoustician, while someone working in the field of acoustical engineering may be called an acoustical engineer. An audio engineer, on the other hand is concerned with the recording, manipulation, mixing, and reproduction of sound.

Applications of acoustics are found in almost all aspects of modern society, subdisciplines include aeroacoustics, audio signal processing, architectural acoustics, bioacoustics, electro-acoustics, environmental noise, musical acoustics, noise control, psychoacoustics, speech, ultrasound, underwater acoustics, and vibration.

Ocean Waves (film)

Ocean Waves, also known as I Can Hear the Sea (Japanese: æµ·ã?Œã??ã?“ã?ˆã‚‹, Hepburn: Umi ga Kikoeru), is a 1993 Japanese anime television film produced by Studio Ghibli. Directed by Tomomi Mochizuki and written by Kaori Nakamura, the film is based on the novel of the same name by Saeko Himuro. Ocean Waves first aired on May 5, 1993 on Japanese television.

The film is set in the city of KÅ?chi, on the Japanese island of Shikoku. It concerns a love triangle that develops between two good friends and a new girl who transfers to their high school from Tokyo.

Ocean Waves was an attempt by Studio Ghibli to allow their younger staff members to make a film reasonably cheaply. However, it ended up going both over budget and over schedule.

Plot

At KichijÅ?ji Station, Tokyo, Taku Morisaki glimpses a familiar woman on the platform opposite. Later, her photo falls from a shelf as he exits his apartment before flying to KÅ?chi Prefecture. As the plane takes off, he narrates the events that brought her into his life. The story is told in flashback.

Paradise Beach

Paradise Beach is an Australian television series made by Village Roadshow Pictures. It is associated with New World Television for the Nine Network that aired between 1993 and 1994. The series is set around characters living and working on Queensland's Gold Coast and was filmed largely on location, offering views of crashing waves, golden beaches and scantily clad young women and men. Paradise Beach was intended not only as a rival to Australian soaps Neighbours and Home and Away but also to be the first breakthrough Australian soap to make it in America.

History

Production

Veteran Australian producer Jock Blair was the driving force behind Paradise Beach, with Nick McMahon as Executive Producer, and the first episodes of the soap were aimed at the American audience. Australian actress Tiffany Lamb used an American accent in her role as Lisa Whitman, and her opening storyline revolved around her childhood sweetheart Cooper Hart (played by Olivia Newton-John's husband Matt Lattanzi). Also appearing from the start were Robert Coleby (Chopper Squad, The Young Doctors) as Tom Barsby, and another familiar face was Andrew McKaige (Sons and Daughters, Prisoner) as Tom's younger brother Nick.
