TV ratings: 'Criminal Minds' helps CBS top Wednesday, 'Modern Family' steady

Wednesday night was a relatively good one for the broadcast networks, with most shows posting ratings gains compared to their most recent outings.

CBS' "Criminal Minds" scored the biggest improvement, drawing its biggest total audience of the season and growing by three-tenths of a point in adults 18-49. "The X Factor" also rose for FOX, and three of ABC's four comedies improved while "Modern Family" was even with its last original episode. "Arrow" was also up a bit for The CW.

CBS:
"Survivor: Blood vs. Water" (9.8 million viewers, 6.0/9 households)
ABC: "The Middle" (8.9 million, 5.5/9)/"Back in the Game" (6.4 million, 4.1/6)
FOX: "The X Factor" (5.7 million, 3.6/6)
NBC: "Revolution" (5.1 million, 3.3/5)
The CW: "Arrow" (3 million, 1.8/3)

18-49 leader: "Survivor: Blood vs. Water" (2.4)

9 p.m.

CBS:
"Criminal Minds" (11.6 million, 7.3/11)
ABC: "Modern Family" (10.6 million, 6.5/10)/"Super Fun Night" (5.9 million, 3.8/6)
NBC: "Law & Order: SVU" (6.1 million, 4.1/6)
FOX: "THe X Factor" (5.8 million, 3.6/6)
The CW: "The Tomorrow People" (1.7 million, 1.1/2)

18-49 leader: "Modern Family" (3.8)

10 p.m.

CBS:
"CSI" (10.1 million, 6.5/11)
NBC: "Dateline" (5.32 million, 3.7/6)
ABC: "Nashville" (5.26 million, 3.7/6)
