A diamond known as the Pink Star has sold for $83m (£52m) at auction in Geneva - a record price for a gemstone.

The diamond measures 2.69cm by 2.06cm (1.06 inches by 0.81 inches) and is set on a ring.

Three years ago, Sotheby\'s set a record when it sold the Graff Pink diamond for $46.2m, which was half the size of the Pink Star.

According to the auctioneer, the Pink Star was mined by De Beers in Africa in 1999, but it did not say which country.

A crucial vote to resolve the case of Yulia Tymoshenko and Ukraine\'s relations with the EU has been postponed in the country\'s parliament.

Opposition MPs showed their anger at the delay by leaving their seats. They had hoped to vote on a bill to allow the detained opposition leader to go to Germany for medical treatment for her back.

Tymoshenko is serving seven years for abuse of office after a trial the EU says was political. Jailed in 2011, she has since been transferred to a hospital unit. Her custody is an obstacle to an association deal due to be signed between the bloc and Ukraine later this month.

But, reading a message from her mother, Evgeniya Tymoshenko said in Kiev: \

US Secretary of State John Kerry warns of significant differences between Iran and the six world powers trying to fashion a nuclear agreement, as he and three European foreign ministers add their weight to try to narrow the gap.

Officials had expressed optimism about progress achieved in Thursday\'s full day of talks. But comments from Mr Kerry and his counterparts from Britain, France and Germany after they arrived in Geneva clearly indicated that some obstacles remain in the way of any agreement offering sanctions reductions for nuclear concessions.

Mr Kerry arrived from Tel Aviv after talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu where he tried to defuse Israeli concerns about the Geneva talks. Israel is strongly critical of any deal that even slightly lifts sanctions unless Iran is totally stripped of technology that can make nuclear arms.

The talks primarily focus on the size and output of Iran\'s enrichment programme, which can create both reactor fuel and weapons-grade material suitable for a nuclear bomb.
Iran insists it is pursuing only nuclear energy, medical treatments and research, but the United States and its allies fear that Iran could turn this material into the fissile core of nuclear warheads.

Mr Kerry said there were \

A Ukrainian court on last Tuesday again postponed Tymoshenko's appeal hearing against her seven-year jail sentence, in what her lawyers say is an attempt by the government to prevent her seeking justice in the European Court of Human Rights. Tymoshenko's jailing in October has led to complaints from Washington and Brussels, and a boycott by Western leaders of Euro 2012 football championship games hosted by Ukraine.

But, reading a message from her mother, Evgeniya Tymoshenko said in Kiev: "I'm appealing to all leaders of the European Union, to all Ukrainian citizens, Ukrainian civil society, the opposition, not to waste time but to act and strive for the signing of the agreement under any circumstances." Iran nuclear talks: US Secretary of State John Kerry says important issues 'still unresolved'

US Secretary of State John Kerry warns of significant differences between Iran and the six world powers trying to fashion a nuclear agreement, as he and three European foreign ministers add their weight to try to narrow the gap. Officials had expressed optimism about progress achieved in Thursday's full day of talks. The talks primarily focus on the size and output of Iran's enrichment programme, which can create both reactor fuel and weapons-grade material suitable for a nuclear bomb. Iran insists it is pursuing only nuclear energy, medical treatments and research, but the United States and its allies fear that Iran could turn this material into the fissile core of nuclear warheads. Mr Kerry said there were "some very important issues on the table that are unresolved." "There is not an agreement at this point in time," he told reporters. He planned to meet later with his European counterparts before joint talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and Catherine Ashton, the EU's top diplomat convening the talks. VICE NEWS exclusive footage and interviews with British nationals fighting with al Qaeda in Syria. Yesterday, MI5 Director-General Andrew Parker announced that hundreds of British Muslims have travelled to Syria to take part in "terrorist tourism". Today, we present exclusive video footage and interviews with British nationals fighting with al Qaeda in Syria. In the film, two young men with British accents echo the sentiments expressed by Lee Rigby's killer Michael Adebolajo and declare jihad against the UK and United States. "I say to the United States that your time will come," says one of the men, who gives his age as 26, "and we will bleed you to death and, Inshallah, shall raise a flag in the White House." The second jihadist calls on the British public to rise up against the government: "Like the guy in Woolwich, he explained that David Cameron would never walk on the street, and he'll never get shot in the face, whereas you guys who are soldiers, or just normal folk, will take the blame for the crimes that are committed worldwide, by Britain itself, so we have to fight." The film also shines a light on the communication difficulties that arise when radicalised extremists from Britain, France, Chechnya, Bosnia, Kosovo and Turkey, among other countries, get together to fight on the front line.
