John Seed is an Australian environmentalist and founder of the Rainforest Information Centre which successfully campaigned to save the sub-tropical rainforests of New South Wales. He is also a prominent figure in the deep ecology movement and co-creator of the Council of All Beings, and other re-earthing processes.
John is a common English name and surname:

Earth First! is a radical environmental advocacy group that emerged in the Southwestern United States in 1979. It was co-founded on April 4, 1980 by Dave Foreman, Mike Roselle, Howie Wolke, Bart Koehler, and Ron Kezar.
There are Earth First! groups in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Netherlands, Belgium, Philippines, Czech Republic, India, Mexico, France, Germany, New Zealand, Poland, Nigeria, Slovakia, Ireland, Italy, and Spain.
Inspired by Rachel Carson's Silent Spring, Aldo Leopold's land ethic, and Edward Abbey's The Monkey Wrench Gang, a group of activists composed of environmental activist Dave Foreman, ex-Yippie (Youth International Party) Mike Roselle, Wyoming Wilderness Society representatives Bart Koehler and Howie Wolke and Bureau of Land Management employee Ron Kezar pledged, "No Compromise in Defense of Mother Earth!" while traveling in Foreman's VW bus from the El Pinacate y Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve in northern Mexico to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Deep ecology is a contemporary ecological and environmental philosophy characterized by its advocacy of the inherent worth of living beings regardless of their instrumental utility to human needs, and advocacy for a radical restructuring of modern human societies in accordance with such ideas. Deep ecology argues that the natural world is a subtle balance of complex inter-relationships in which the existence of organisms is dependent on the existence of others within ecosystems. Human interference with or destruction of the natural world poses a threat therefore not only to humans but to all organisms constituting the natural order.
Deep ecology's core principle is the belief that the living environment as a whole should be respected and regarded as having certain inalienable legal rights to live and flourish, independent of its utilitarian instrumental benefits for human use. It describes itself as "deep" because it regards itself as looking more deeply into the actual reality of humanity's relationship with the natural world arriving at philosophically more profound conclusions than that of the prevailing view of ecology as a branch of biology. The movement does not subscribe to anthropocentric environmentalism (which is concerned with conservation of the environment only for exploitation by and for human purposes) since deep ecology is grounded in a quite different set of philosophical assumptions. Deep ecology takes a more holistic view of the world human beings live in and seeks to apply to life the understanding that the separate parts of the ecosystem (including humans) function as a whole. This philosophy provides a foundation for the environmental, ecology, and green movements and has fostered a new system of environmental ethics advocating wilderness preservation, human population control, and simple living.
A seed is an embryonic plant enclosed in a protective outer covering known as the seed coat.
It is a characteristic of spermatophytes (gymnosperm and angiosperm plants) and the product of the ripened ovule which occurs after fertilization and some growth within the mother plant. The formation of the seed completes the process of reproduction in seed plants (started with the development of flowers and pollination), with the embryo developed from the zygote and the seed coat from the integuments of the ovule.
Seeds have been an important development in the reproduction and spread of gymnosperm and angiosperm plants, relative to more primitive plants such as ferns, mosses and liverworts, which do not have seeds and use other means to propagate themselves. This can be seen by the success of seed plants (both gymnosperms and angiosperms) in dominating biological niches on land, from forests to grasslands both in hot and cold climates.
The term "seed" also has a general meaning that antedates the above—anything that can be sown, e.g. "seed" potatoes, "seeds" of corn or sunflower "seeds". In the case of sunflower and corn "seeds", what is sown is the seed enclosed in a shell or husk, whereas the potato is a tuber.

Rad Activist John Seed summarizes three themes of his Deep Ecology talks & writing - "Deep Ecology and the conservation of Nature" "Honoring our Pain for the World" "Defrocking the Religion of Economics" - also an essay http://www.rainforestinfo.org.au/deep-eco/Economics-as-Religion5000.pdf I videoed this ages ago, demonstrating my renowned 'up the nostril' technique (sorry John!!) - with the camera resting on the back of a chair. It was the last day of a festival & John was an extremely good sport to give this impromptu interview. And says extremely interesting & true things.

Film Earth First zvýrazňuje kritickú situáciu najstaršieho žijúceho prepojenia s minulosťou Zeme, austrálsky dažďový prales, a prácu skupín podstatne zaujatých ochranou nášho prírodného dedičstva. Je to pravdepodobne prvý dokumentárny film vo svete o hnutí Earth First! (slovenské titulky pre vás pripravil Mieroslav) "Earth First! The Struggle to Save Australia's Rainforests." Earth first presented and narrated by Jack Thompson ; produced by Jeni Kendall and John Seed ; directed by Jenni Kendall. Highlights the plight of oldest living link with Earth's past, the Australian rainforests, and the work of groups vitally concerned with the preservation of our natural heritage.
John Seed won an Order of Australia Medal for working tirelessly to save forests and other important environmental work over the last 30 years. He is a great guy. He is part of the Deep Ecology movement, and provides workshops throughout Australia (and has done around the world). His understanding of the deep interconnectedness of things allows access to an awe, which we may need ... Crossed over to the spirit world
Was like walking through fire
Familiar faces all around me
Waiting to see me
We talk, but no one speaks
Shrouded in eerie, white bliss
This is what I have seen
When worlds collide – sound like thunder
When worlds collide – ocean of rain
When worlds collide
Walked amongst ghosts and men
I prefer the dark side
Specter, haunt me no longer
I am you now
We touch, but no one feels
Covered in Holy light
This is how it is
When worlds collide – sound like thunder
When worlds collide – ocean of rain
When worlds collide – sound like thunder
When worlds collide – ocean of rain
We talk, but no one speaks
Shrouded in eerie, white bliss
