Punjab is a region in the South Asia, divided into two parts West Punjab (Pakistan) and East Punjab (India). Punjabi music has a diverse style of music, ranging from folk and Sufi to classical, notably the Patiala gharana.
Folk music of the Punjab is the traditional music of Punjab produced using the traditional musical instruments like Tumbi, Algoze, Dhadd, Sarangi, Chimta and more. There is a wide range of folk songs for every occasion from birth to death including marriage, festivals, fairs and religious ceremonies.

Bhangra describes dance-oriented popular music with Punjabi rhythms, developed since the 1980s. The name refers to one of the traditional and folkloric Punjabi dances. Thus in bhangra music the emphasis is usually on the music (i.e. rhythm for dancing) and less on the singer and the lyrics. Bhangra music is appreciated all over the globe.
Gurdas Maan (Punjabi: ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਮਾਨ) is an Punjabi singer, songwriter, choreographer, and actor. He is considered one of the most notable figures in the world of Punjabi music. He was born in Giddarbaha village of Indian Punjab and gained national attention in 1980 with the song "Dil Da Mamla Hai." Since then, he has gone on to record over 34 albums and has written over 300 songs.
Maan was formally educated in D.A.V College Malout Punjab.[citation needed] After completing his education there, his parents enrolled him in a further education institute in Patiala.[citation needed] As a keen sports enthusiast Maan was fascinated by the National Institute of Sports in the city; this prompted him to join the N.I.S. and gain a Masters degree in physical education.[citation needed]
He took part in youth festivals organized by universities and won several awards for his singing and acting, always supported by his friends. He competed in many athletic events and won medals including a bronze at the National Championship as well as achieving a black belt in judo.
Jaswinder Singh Bains, more popularly known as Jazzy B, is a Punjabi language bhangra singer-songwriter. He was born on April 1, 1975 in Durgapur, Nawanshahrin tehsil of Jalandhar , Punjab, India. When he was 5 years old, his family moved to Vancouver, Canada. He now resides in Birmingham, England. He has released 12 studio albums, including two religious ones. He has collaborated on many tracks and two soundtracks.
In 2012 he will make his debut as an actor in the Punjabi Film titled Best of Luck with Punjabi Singer and Actor Gippy Grewal and Miss India Universe 2008 Simran Mundi.
Diljit (born 6 January 1984; as Diljit Singh Dosanjh) is a Punjabi singer and film actor.
Diljit Dosanjh debuted with his album Ishq Da Uda Ada. It was released by T-Series. He has come out with 6 albums so far.His most successful album, The Next Level is also his most recent.
Diljit made his acting debut in the Punjabi action flick, The Lion of Punjab which opened to negative reviews from critics, though managed to end up successful at the box office. In 2011, he starred in the critically acclaimed Jihne Mera Dil Luteya which turned out to be a critical and commercial blockbuster. Critics praised Diljit's comic performance in the film. In February 2012 he was seen in the Hindi romance film Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, in which he appeared in a guest appearance through the song "Pee Pa Pee Pa" which he also sang. His first official release of 2012 is announced to be a love story Jatt & Juliet opposite Neeru Bajwa, it's currently under-production, and will be released on 29 June 2012. His next Jatt Romantic pairs him opposite Neeru Bajwa again and is directed by leading Bollywood director Dharmesh Darshan.
Surveen Chawla is an Indian actress, best known for hosting the television show Comedy Circus Ke SuperStars.
Surveen made her debut as Charu in the Balaji Telefilms serial Kahin To Hoga. She then played the role of Kasak in Kasautii Zindagi Kay. She also played the lead role in Kaajjal.
Surveen was seen in the reality dance show Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, where she paired up with Indian cricketer S. Sreesanth. The first of the three films, titled Carry On Pandu, will see her playing the female lead opposite Ranvir Shorey. She hosted Comedy Circus ke Superstars on Sony. In 2011, she appeared in her first Punjabi film opposite Jimmy Shergill named Dharti which released in April 2011. The film won six prizes at the 2nd PTC Punjabi Film Awards. Surveen was given the Best Female Debutante Award.
Apart from being an actress, Surveen has appeared in television commercials, magazine covers and print advertisements.
