Tertiary education, also referred to as third stage, third level, and post-secondary education, is the educational level following the completion of a school providing a secondary education. Higher education is taken to include undergraduate and postgraduate education, while vocational education and training beyond secondary education is known as further education in the United Kingdom, or continuing education in the United States.

Colleges, universities and polytechnics are the main institutions that provide tertiary education (sometimes known collectively as tertiary institutions). Tertiary education generally culminates in the receipt of certificates, diplomas, or academic degrees.

University students who undergo their first years in tertiary education face new challenges as university life is a learning environment where independent study is central to education. Interaction between the students and lecturers is limited. In tertiary education, analytical skills take precedence over the ability to memorize. Hence, for a successful academic result, students must strive hard and utilize all possible resources. This includes writing down all the major points from lectures and taking advantage of all available materials - using the supportive mediums provided by institutions such as online lecture notes and PowerPoint presentations.

Carol Ann Beaumont is a politician from New Zealand. She was elected to represent the Labour Party on the party list at the 2008 election. Beaumont stood in the Maungakiekie electorate, finishing second. In the 2011 election she again came second in Maungakiekie, but in spite of her higher list position (22nd) she failed to be returned due to the drop in support for the Labour Party. As Beaumont is the highest listed unelected Labour list candidate, she could still be returned to the current Parliament if an elected Labour list MP vacates their seat.

In May 2003 Beaumont was elected Secretary of the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions. This came on the heels of 20 years involvement in the union movement

Beaumont was appointed Labour's spokesperson for Consumer Affairs, and associate spokesperson for Labour by Labour leader Phil Goff.

In early 2010 Beaumont took over responsibility for Charles Chauvel's Credit Reforms (Responsible Lending) Bill, which had been drawn from the ballot in August 2009. The bill was defeated at its first reading in July 2010.

David James Shearer, MBE (born 28 July 1957) is a New Zealand humanitarian worker and current Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Labour Party. He won the Mount Albert by-election on 13 June 2009 to become a Member of the Parliament of New Zealand for the Labour Party. He was named (together with his wife) as New Zealander of the Year by the New Zealand Herald in 1992.

Shearer was born and brought up in Auckland. He attended Papatoetoe High School, where he was head boy. He then graduated from the University of Auckland with a BSc and the University of Canterbury with a MSc (Hons) in Resource Management. Between 1983 to 1987 he was a teacher at Massey High School and Onehunga High School.

Shearer has conducted various assignments with the International Institute for Strategic Studies, the Save the Children Fund, and the International Crisis Group, and is the author of numerous publications in the areas of humanitarian affairs and conflict resolution.

In 1992 Shearer, and his wife Anuschka Meyer, were named the New Zealanders of the Year by the New Zealand Herald after running one of the biggest aid camps in Somalia. In the 1993 United Kingdom New Years Honours List he was awarded a MBE by the Queen for his work in Somalia.

Campbell Gordon Calder (born 1952), known as Cam Calder is a New Zealand doctor and politician representing the National Party as a member of Parliament.

Originally a dentist by trade, Calder was retraining as a doctor when he lost the sight in one eye through an accident. Calder previously served as president of the French New Zealand Business Council and has served on the international governing body for pétanque. He takes credit for being one of the people who "imported" pétanque into New Zealand. He has two children.

Calder was number 58 on the National Party List in the 2008 election. The provisional results of the election would have made him an MP, but the number of seats allocated to the National Party dropped by one in the final count, preventing Calder from entering Parliament. Calder also contested the Manurewa electorate in the 2008 and 2011 elections, but lost to Labour MPs George Hawkins and to Louisa Wall respectively.

After the resignation of Richard Worth on 12 June 2009, Calder entered Parliament in his place. He was declared elected by the Chief Electoral Officer on 16 June 2009.

Marina binti Mahathir is the daughter and eldest child of the 4th Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Mahathir Mohammad and Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.

She graduated from the University of Sussex.

She is well known as a leader in many non-governmental organizations such as the Malaysian AIDS Foundation and is currently an active socio-political blogger. She also writes a bi-weekly column in The Star Malaysian newspaper.

Marina has called for an end to discrimination based on sexual orientation.

She will be appearing in Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's Documentary releasing late 09'with the rest of the members of the Mahathir Family.

Marina is married to Indonesian and professional photographer, Tara Sosrowardoyo. They have three children.
