The Cleveland 4

The Cleveland 4 are accused of plotting to blow up a bridge in Ohio on May 1st, 2012 according to an informant that was working with the FBI. Their charges were/are as follows:

“Count 1 of the Indictment charges each of the five defendants from the time period of February 20, 2012 to on or about April 30, 2012 with knowingly conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction, specifically, a destructive device composed of two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) containing C-4 plastic explosives against property within the United States used Case: 1:12-cr-00238-DDD Doc #: 60 Filed: 06/12/12 1 of 13. PageID #: 707 (1:12 CR 238) 2 in interstate commerce or in an activity that affects interstate commerce, namely the Brecksville-Northfield High Level Bridge, in violation of Title 18 United States Code Section 2332a(a)(B)(D).

The second count in the Indictment charges the five defendants on or about April 30, 2012 in knowingly attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction … in an activity that affects interstate commerce, namely the Brecksville-Northfield High Level Bridge.The third count in the Indictment charges that the defendants maliciously attempted to damage and destroy by use of explosives … the Brecksville-Northfield High Level Bridge and aided and abetted each other to do the same.”

All of the accused were active members of Occupy Cleveland. There was ample evidence of FBI entrapment, as a paid FBI informant provided the plans, the fake explosives, and continued to push the accused to carry out the action.

3 of the 4 have pleaded guilty and have been sentenced to serve Federal prison sentences.
