Chief superintendent is a senior rank in police forces organised on the British model.

In the British police, a chief superintendent (Ch Supt; or colloquially "chief super") is senior to a superintendent and junior to an assistant chief constable (or a commander in the Metropolitan Police or City of London Police).

The highest rank below Chief Officer level, chief superintendents were first introduced into the Metropolitan Police in 1949, when superintendents were regraded to the new rank, and have since been adopted in all British police forces. However, the rank had been used previously to this in some forces in certain circumstances (e.g. in the early part of the 20th century the deputy head of the Shropshire Constabulary bore the official title of "chief superintendent and deputy chief constable").

Between 1949 and 1968, chief superintendent was junior to deputy commander in the Metropolitan Police, and between 1953 and 1974 it was immediately senior to superintendent grade I.

Traditionally, chief superintendents have commanded divisions, but since widespread reorganisation in the 1990s many forces have abandoned divisions for different forms of organisation and the areas commanded by chief superintendents vary widely from force to force. In most forces, however, they still command the largest territorial subdivisions, often known generally as Basic Command Units (BCUs). The rank of chief superintendent was abolished on 1 April 1995 following recommendations made in the Sheehy Report, except for officers already holding the rank. The Home Office officially reintroduced the rank of chief superintendent on 1 January 2002.

John O'Hare (born 24 September 1946) is a Scottish former footballer. His clubs included Sunderland, Derby County and also Nottingham Forest and was part of their European Cup victory in 1980, coming on as a substitute in the final. He also won thirteen caps for the Scotland national team, scoring five goals.

O'Hare was born in Renton. His career took shape under the guidance of Derby manager Brian Clough after moving from Sunderland for £20,000 in 1967. There was initial criticism of him as he was seen as a large but slow forward. However, Clough persisted with him and in his second season he justified his fee, going on to establish a prolific partnership with Kevin Hector as they led Derby to the First Division title in 1972.

O'Hare followed Clough to Leeds United in 1974, however the latter left Leeds after only 44 days in the job. O'Hare was reunited with Clough after a transfer to Nottingham Forest in February 1975, going on to win another league title and a European Cup.

He won thirteen caps for the Scotland national team, scoring five goals.

Carl Bussey is a retired American soccer midfielder who played professionally in Major League Soccer and the USL First Division. He played three games for the U.S. at the 1995 FIFA U-17 World Championship.

Bussey graduated from Plano East Senior High School. He attended Southern Methodist University where he was a 1999 and 2000 First Team All American soccer player.

On February 10, 2002, the Dallas Burn selected Bussey in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2002 MLS SuperDraft. He played nine games for Dallas in 2002, but saw no first team game time in 2003 before being released in June. He signed with the Virginia Beach Mariners of the USL First Division for the remainder of the season. In 2005, he played for the amateur Dallas Roma F.C. He also played in the South Korea First Division.

Bussey played three games for the United States men's national under-17 soccer team at the 1995 FIFA U-17 World Championship.

Oliver Shaw (March 13, 1779 – December 31, 1848), was one of the first American composers.

Shaw was born at Newport, Rhode Island. A childhood accident and later yellow fever caused him to go totally blind. He studied with organist John Berkenhead and later with Gottlieb Graupner. After studies, he started his musical career in Boston and in Providence where he remained an important musical figure until his death.

One of his students was Lowell Mason. In 1810, Shaw together with his friends founded Psallonian Society "for the purpose of improving themselves in the knowledge and practice of sacred music and inculcating a more correct taste in the choice and performance of it" based in Providence.

His publications include five volumes of his own music and contributions to others. Many compositions, he wrote, were based on poems by Thomas Moore.

He died at Providence, Rhode Island.

Russell Stanley "Russ" Jackson, OC (born July 28, 1936 in Hamilton, Ontario). Jackson spent his entire 12-year professional football career with the Ottawa Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League. He is a member of the Order of Canada, the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, and Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, and has been described as the best Canadian-born quarterback to play in the CFL. In 2006, Jackson was voted one of the CFL's Top 50 players (#8) of the league's modern era by Canadian sports network TSN, the highest-ranked Canadian-born player on the list.

After a stellar college career as both a basketball and football player, Jackson graduated from McMaster University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He was the McMaster nominee for a Rhodes Scholarship, but did not pursue an interview for the scholarship, deciding instead to sign with the Ottawa Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League, who drafted him in the first round of the 1958 CFL draft.

Originally signed as a defensive back, Jackson ended up quarterbacking the Rough Riders to three Grey Cup victories (48th, 56th, and 57th Grey Cups) of 1960, 1968, and 1969, respectively, ending his career on the high note of two straight cups.
