Scotland County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of 2010, the population was 4,843. Its county seat is Memphis. The county was organized in 1841 and named for Scotland.

Surveyor S. W. B. Carnegy suggested that the county be named after his native country of Scotland. He also gave several settlements in the area Scottish names.

In the 1880s, a group called the "The Tax-payers' Association of Scotland County" formed to resist paying local taxes and to intimidate any potential bidders on horses and mules that had been seized to cover those taxes. The handling of county debt collection went to the Supreme Court in Findlay v. McAllister.

According to the 2000 census, the county has a total area of 439.25 square miles (1,137.7 km²), of which 438.47 square miles (1,135.6 km²) (or 99.82%) is land and 0.79 square miles (2.0 km²) (or 0.18%) is water.

As of the census of 2010, there were 4,843 people, 1,902 households, and 1,302 families residing in the county. The population density was 11 people per square mile (4/km²). There were 2,292 housing units at an average density of 5 per square mile (2/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 98.82% White, 0.20% Black or African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 0.58% from two or more races. 0.84% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. 5.72% report speaking Pennsylvania German, Dutch, or German at home, while 1.58% speak Spanish.

Missouri (ⁱ/mɨˈzʊəri/) (nickname The Show Me State) is a U.S. state located in the Midwestern United States, bordered by Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska. It has both Midwestern and Southern cultural influences, reflecting its history as a border state. It is also a transition between the Eastern and Western United States, as St. Louis is often called the "western-most Eastern city" and Kansas City the "eastern-most Western city". Missouri's geography is highly varied. The northern part of the state lies in dissected till plains while the southern part lies in the Ozark Mountains (a dissected plateau), with the Missouri River dividing the two. The state lies at the intersection of the three greatest rivers of North America, with the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers near St. Louis, and the confluence of the Ohio River with the Mississippi north of the Bootheel. The starting points of the Pony Express Trail and Oregon Trail were both in Missouri. The mean center of United States population as of the 2010 Census is at the town of Plato in Texas County, Missouri.

Scotland County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2010 census, the population was 36,157. Its county seat is Laurinburg.

The county was formed in 1899 from the southeastern part of Richmond County. It was named after Scotland, as many of its early European settlers were Scots-Irish and Scottish Highlanders.

Scotland County is a member of the regional Lumber River Council of Governments.

As of the 2000 Census, Scotland County is located almost entirely in North Carolina's 8th congressional district and is currently represented in the 111th United States Congress by Larry Kissell (D).

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 321 square miles (830 km²), of which, 319 square miles (830 km²) of it is land and 2 square miles (5.2 km²) of it (0.47%) is water.

The county is divided into four townships: Laurel Hill, Spring Hill, Stewartsville, and Davidson

As of the census of 2000, there were 35,998 people, 13,399 households, and 9,674 families residing in the county. The population density was 113 people per square mile (44/km²). There were 14,693 housing units at an average density of 46 per square mile (18/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 51.49% White, 37.32% Black or African American, 8.88% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 1.33% from two or more races. 1.18% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
