Zomig is a headache medicine that narrows blood vessels around the brain. Zolmitriptan also reduces substances in the body that can trigger headache pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and other migraine symptoms. The active ingredient in Zomig is zolmitriptan, which is a type of substance called a serotonin agonist.  Although the cause of migraine attacks is not fully understood, it is thought that widening of blood vessels in the brain causes the throbbing pain of migraine headaches. Zolmitriptan relieves this pain by causing the blood vessels in the brain to narrow. Zolmitriptan works by stimulating receptors called serotonin receptors that are found in the brain.
