The Shergill Jatt / Jat Clan is from Punjab, India. Many Shergills also use the surname Gill as they have descended from Gill clan of Jats. Shergill was one of the eight sons of Gillpal who was the founder of Gill surname.
Gill and Shergill has become a renowned surname throughout South Asia and the Punjab. Gills are currently considered one of the main aristocratic Jat clans of the Jat gotra system. It is historically noted that Shergill was born to a Jat Rani of Ragho Vanshi (family) Raja Pithipal, who ruled Ferozepore around 12-13 centuries. One of his descenant Moga came to be known as Moga Btaalia (42). Reason being that his descent had established 42 villages around the city of Moga.
The name name Gil is explained by a story to the effect that the Raja had no children by his Rajputni wives, and therefore married a Jat woman. She bore a son, but the other wives, moved by jealousy, exposed it in a marshy spot in the jungle. The infant was accidentally found by the King's minister and called Gill, from the place where he was found, "gil" meaning moisture.
Another version is given by Sir Lepal Griffin in his book,"Punjab Chiefs" (page 352) that "the child son of Gil was found being licked and fondled by a tiger ("sher"), whence he received the name of the Sher Gill. Sher Gills are one section of the Gils. There are 12 sections all together of Gills". It was also stated by Sir Lepal Griffin that: "The Jat race is, for honesty, strength and courage, second to no race in the world."
The descendants of Shergill, one of the eight sons of the Great Gillpal, settled in the Zira area located in Malwa gave rise to the elite Shergill (i.e. Singh Gill) Jat clan of the Punjab.
There are eight villages near Banga in District Nawanshahr where Shergills reside. These are Raipur Dabba, Mukandpur, Jagatpur [Jhingran], Dyalpur, Bahua and Chak Bilgan etc.
There are some villages of Shergills in Nurpur Bedi Block in Ropar i.e. Abiana, Leharian, Rampur Bela, Bhatton, Bains,Aaulakh & many more. In Amritsar district, the famous village [Baserke Gillan] is also the birthplace of the third Guru of Sikhs, Guru Amar Das Ji.
In Sangrur district of Punjab there are three famous villages of Shergills i.e. Jamsher,Rajomajra and Moranwali . Jallandhar/Nawan Shehar district is Langeri.

Rabbi Shergill (born Gurpreet Singh Shergill, 1973) is an Indian musician well known for his debut album ''Rabbi'' and the chart-topper song of 2005, "Bulla Ki Jaana". His music has been described variously as rock, Punjabi, with a bani style melody, and Sufiana, and "semi-Sufi semi-folksy kind of music with a lot of Western arrangements." Rabbi has been called "Punjabi music's true urban balladeer".
Most of the songs in the album were composed and written by Rabbi himself except for "Bulla ki Jana" based on the poetry of 18th century Muslim Sufi mystic Baba Bulleh Shah, "Heer" from Heer by Waris Shah and "Ishtihar" by Shiv Kumar Batalvi.
On April 9, 2008, Nokia India announced that Shergill's album, ''Avengi Ja Nahin'', would be available exclusively on its Nseries range of multimedia devices for a period of one month prior to its audio cd release. The album contains nine songs and deals with ''issues like communal violence, social responsibility and the need for “collective morality”.''
Rabbi's music has been inspired by Rock as well as Sufi and Punjabi folk music. His favourite musicians include Bruce Springsteen, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith and Jimmy Page and Bally Jagpal as well as gunbir singh chadha
The name Rabbi means God-facing and originates from the Punjabi word Rabb (God). Which originally came from Arabic word "Rabb" which means Lord/Master/Creator/Who sustains and develops.

Tulip Joshi (born 11 September 1979) is an Indian actress who has appeared in Bollywood.
Tulip entered the Femina Miss India in 2000. She did not make it to the list of winners, but was noticed by many advertising agencies. She appeared in a number of advertising campaigns for big brands (Ponds, Pepsi, Siyaram, BPL, Smirnoff etc.). She also appeared in a video made as a tribute to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Not being fluent in Hindi, she trained in Hindi diction and in acting at Feroze Khan’s studio. She was also advised by the film-makers to change her name to something more Indian, as audiences might have difficulty in accepting a heroine with such an unconventional name. She chose the name Sanjana, she was playing the character of Anjali in that film. The film was quite a success. Despite the good reviews and success, Tulip was heavily panned for her acting.
After a two-year hiatus, she reappeared in ''Matrubhoomi'' - a dark film about a futuristic world with almost no women. Her performance in it was praised and established her credibility as an actress. ''Dhoka'' movie also gave her some recognition.
Reverting to her given name, Tulip next appeared in the Telugu film ''Villain''. Her next Hindi movie was ''Dil Maange More'' with Shahid Kapoor, Ayesha Takia and Soha Ali Khan. The film got average reviews but it was not a box office success.
She appeared in her first Punjabi film in 2009 called ''Jag Jeondeyan De Mele'' with famous Punjabi singer and actor, Harbhajan Mann.
In 2010, she acted in a Kannada film directed by Upendra titled ''Super''. The movie was a superhit in Kannada. This movie is also being dubbed in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi.
