Warrant Officer: The whole time that we're here I make sure that my guys know that we're not here just to fight for Canada's rights, but for the guy to the left and to the right of us, and that's why I think 15:13 is important. [first lines]
Lieutenant Colonel: At Christmas time, ah, probably the worst time of year for us to lose a soldier, for that family to be notified last night about what happened.
civilian: You know you're in a war zone when even the elves are armed.
Sergeant: Over here? No. Get the shit fixed, get it out. That's it. You know what I mean? You don't pretty it up.
Master Corporal: We have to maintain a fairly high level of competence for this. 'Cause, ah, we fuck up, somebody gets hurt and I don't need that on my conscience.
Master Corporal: In the summertime, in a trailer like this, when it's hot, will max up to, max out at 70 degrees. Celsius.
Master Corporal: The last time in KAF, ah, it's hard when you have to go to the Ramp Ceremonies and see the coffins go by.
Master Corporal: It looks ugly but what we've taken is the parts out of two washing machines, a pulley from something, a wheel from a generator, a bicycle wheel, a barrel and some angle iron and made a BBQ and rotisserie for the pig roast that the K.O. is planning. [pause] You just put it on delicate or regular.
Corporal: The military is basically an organized cluster-fuck. You'll have a million people doing a million different jobs. It looks like nobody even has a clue what they're doing - but next thing you know - blink of an eye, tents are up, camp's running.
Warrant Officer: It doesn't matter if you're airforce, navy, army, male, female; you're a soldier. You're not a number. Fuck off with your statistics. And that just ended up on the frickin' documentary.

As the hazing turns more ugly, Private First Class urges The Private to stop his immoral actions. The two argue and Private First Class slowly comes to the realization that he too, was once picking on rookies; and he is actually responsible for this unstoppable cycle of pain. When did he become someone he loathes? What can he now do to change it? As the long night comes close to an end, the mysterious seaside woman nicknamed "28" shows up. The Private forces the rookie to have sex with "28" as a rite of passage all soldiers on this coast have gone through. Private First Class steps forward to stop this horrendous act, yet his choice of action may be just as ridiculous and absurd...

Now.::Simon Balcairn: The vulgar evangelist, Mrs. Melrose Ape, proudly revealed that her angels were no more than underage adornments on sale to the highest bidder. Meanwhile, tears coursing down her face, the honorable Agatha... , whose repulsive liason with the Prime Minister shocked the nation this week, bewailed her, quote: "Ruined, bogus, vapid, bogus, and worthless life," unquote. [pause] Yes, two boguses. Lady Maitland, shrieking of her terrible dependence upon cocaine powder, threw off her Schiaparelli ball gown and stood naked upon the dance floor, an example quickly followed by old and young alike until only the servants remained clothed. And grotesquely hairy Archie Schwert, swinging naked from the chandelier, screamed that all his money derived from prostitution and the opium trade. Lady Maitland's son Miles howled and howled and confessed to an intimate beastliness involving five guardsmen of the royal household, two marines, and a brick layer from Hattersfield. Nina Blount... Nina Blount grasped her stomach, screamed she was a whore, and misquoted several lines of Lady MacBeth whilst Adam Fenwick-Symes cried on heaven to bear witness to his talentless penury and hopeless illiteracy.
Simon Balcairn: [Telling his fake news story] Never, never, never have such scenes been witnessed in high society, that uneasy alliance between Bright Young Things and old survivors. Perhaps this was the defining moment of our epoch of speed and syncopation. This so-called 20th century of angst, neurosis and panic. Reader be glad that you have nothing to do with this world. Its glamour is a delusion, its speed a snare, its music a scream of fear. Faster and faster they swirl, sickening themselves with every turn. The faster the ride, the greater the nausea, the terror, and the shame. [pause] Stop. Yes, that's it. Good night.
Adam Fenwick-Symes: Oh Nina, what a lot of parties... Masked parties, Savage parties, Victorian parties, Greek parties, Wild West parties, Circus parties, parties where you have to dress as somebody else, almost naked parties in St. John's Wood, parties in flats and studios and houses and ships and hotels and nightclubs, in swimming baths and windmills. Dances in London so dull. Comic dances in Scotland and disgusting dances in the suburbs. All that succession and repetition of massed humanity. All those vile bodies. And now a party in a mental hospital...
Ginger Littlejohn: What I'm about to say is that what I'm about to say may sound unpleasant, y'know, and all that, but look here, y'know, dammit. I mean, the better man has won. Not, um, that I'm saying that I'm the better man, I wouldn't say that for a moment, awful bad luck on you and all but still, when you come to think of it I mean look here, y'know. Dammit. 1989. The Berlin Wall is about to fall, and the world is about to be made safe for the new world order. But outside of Stuttgart, West Germany, at Theodore Roosevelt Army Base, Specialist Ray Elwood of the 317th Supply Battalion is about to find his own cold war turn white hot. Officially, there's his day job as battalion secretary to the inept but caring Commander Wallace Berman. On the side, there's everything from selling the locals stolen Mop'N'Glo to cooking heroin for the base's ruthless head of Military Police, Sgt. Saad. When a new top sergeant arrives, with the avowed intention of cleaning the base up, Elwood thinks the new blood is nothing he can't handle, especially after he lays eyes on the top's daughter, rebellious Robyn. But that was before he figured in the $5 million in stolen arms that just landed on his lap, Berman's jealous wife, an insane Turkish drug dealer, and, of course, the resulting lust, betrayal, and murder.

Introducing Dorothy Dandridge (1999)
Actors
Plot
This biography of Dorothy Dandridge follows her career through early days on the club circuit with her sister to her turn in movies, including becoming the first black actress to win a Best Actress Nomination in 1954 for "Carmen Jones", to her final demise to prescription drugs, which was debated whether it was suicide or accidental. Brent Spiner plays her faithful manager who stood beside her through all of the roller coaster of her career. The film also examines her love affair with director Otto Preminger, which is shown to have probably initially helped her career, but later probably led her to some wrong decisions. The film also examines 50's racism as the black star is not permitted to use white bathrooms or the Vegas pool. In the first situation, she was given a bathroom cup to pee in. In the second situation, the hotel drained the pool and scrubbed it after she dared put her foot in the water.

On a U.S. Army post circa 1948, a major who is an impotent, latent homosexual is married to an infantile birdbrain who never misses an opportunity to ridicule his masculine failings. He displaces his hostility by brutally flogging her horse and she retaliates by humiliating him before a houseful of guests, repeatedly slashing him across the face with her riding crop. She is also committing adultery with the officer next door, who's wife cut off her nipples with garden shears after the death of her baby. She has sought solace in the ministrations of her effeminate houseboy. The sixth character, coveted by the major, is a darkly handsome noncom, a voyeur and lingerie-fondler, given to nightly appearances as a peeping tom in the birdbrain's bedroom and daily sessions of horseback riding in the middle of the woods stark naked.

Alison Langdon: Alcoholics, paresis, senility. My God. What a choice crew.
Leonora: Have you ever been collared and dragged out into the street and thrashed by a naked woman?
Maj. Weldon Penderton: [to Leonora] You disgust me.
Leonora: [to Weldon] So, Firebird's alright, is he?::Leonora: [Lashes him across the face with her horse whip]
Lt. Col. Morris Langdon: [after Alison Langdon's houseboy Anacleto falls down the stairs] I wish you'd broken your goddam neck!
Maj. Weldon Penderton: I'm sorry, Leonora. It's just all this clutter is...::Leonora: What's the matter with clutter? I like it.::Maj. Weldon Penderton: I'd rather live without it. Bare floors. Plain white walls. No window curtains. Nothing but essentials.::Leonora: If that's the way you feel about it, why don't you resign your commission and start all over again as an enlisted man?::Maj. Weldon Penderton: Of course you're laughing at it, but there's much to be said for the life of men among men... with no... luxuries, no ornamentation. Utter simplicity. It's rough and it's coarse, perhaps, but it's also clean - it's clean as a rifle. There's no speck of dust inside or out... and it's immaculate in its hard young fitness... its chivalry. They're seldom out of one another's sight. They eat, and they train, and they shower, and they play jokes... and go to the brothel together. They sleep side by side. The barracks room offers many a lesson in courtesy and how not to give offense. They guard the next man's privacy as though it was their own. And the friendships, my lord. There are friendships formed that are stronger than... stronger than the fear of death. And - they're never lonely. They're never lonely. And sometimes I envy them... well, good night.
Maj. Weldon Penderton: Now, a man does not flee because... um... he's fighting in an unjust cause. He does not attack because his cause is just. He flees 'cause he's the weaker. And he conquers 'cause he's the stronger. Or more to the point because his leaders made him feel stronger. Rommel... Patton, Marshall, MacArthur. They - they had it. Reflections in a Golden Eye (1967)
Actors
Plot

Quotes:
[about Lt. Colonel Langdon's wife]::Leonora: Cutting off her nipples with garden shears! You call that normal?::Lt. Col. Morris Langdon: Well, the doctors say she's neurotic.
How did they - uh... how did they make their troops believe they were stronger? Leadership is intangible... hard to measure, difficult to describe. Leadership must include a measure of inherent ability to control... uh... and direct self-confidence... based on initiative, loyalty to superiors, and a sense of pride. Pride. Plot
London based American nurse, Lady Susan Ashwood née Dunn, is at the hospital awaiting the imminent arrival of injured soldiers. She is hoping that her enlisted son, Sir John Ashwood II, who resembles his father both in appearance and temperament, is not among those injured. As she waits, she remembers back to WWI when her husband, Sir John Ashwood I, was enlisted, and the waiting she endured on any news from and about him while he was away in battle. From a humble background, Sue almost didn't meet Sir John let alone marry him as she and her father, Hiram Dunn, the publisher of a small daily newspaper, were only in London in April 1914 on a two week vacation - her first ever trip - that was not going very well when by happenstance she got invited on her last day in London to the king's ball, where Sir John was awaiting the arrival of another young woman with who he was supposed to keep company for the evening. Despite being mutually attracted to each other, the patriotic Sue didn't know whether she could leave the United States and get accustomed both to John's family's aristocratic manners as well as the English customs in general. She also thinks back to approximately ten years earlier when she was urged by her father to return to the States on the inevitability that the Germans would once again be the aggressors in a war. Through it all, Sue is a proud American despite having lived the better part of her life in England.

It is a toss-up as to who is most displeased when Patrolman Moe Finkelstein is given the duty of guarding the German consulate ran by Karl Baumer; neither Moe nor Baumer are too happy with this turn of events. Moe, however, quickly becomes fiends with the other residents of the consulate: Sophie Baumer, the consul's wife; the secretary Baron Max Von Alvenstor; and a pretty maid named Freida. Moe senses an underlying tension that is not entirely accounted for by the gathering clouds of war. The gambling-loving Baumer has lost a large sum of money belonging to the German government, Sophie has learned to hate her husband and what he stands for and represents, and Baron Max has fallen in love with her. Max confronts Baumer with the discrepancy in the consulate's funds, and Baumer threatens to inform Berlin that one of Max's grandparents was not "Aryan." The arrival of a group of Nazi saboteurs and the insistence they be given the funds to finance their project stirs consulate affairs even further.

A Universal Army enlistment promotion, produced as a musical showcase for Harry James, the Andrews Sisters, Joe E. Lewis, and Donald O'Connor & Peggy Ryan. The film's thin plot has James drafted, and joining him is the band's lead vocalist Lon Prentice (Dick Foran), who doesn't believe that Army training and regulations are necessary for anyone of his skill and fame. Shemp Howard steals the film whenever James and the Andrews aren't performing. As Sgt. Snavely, he's effectively teamed with Mary Wickes as his shrewish fiancée, trying desperately to keep her away from the attentions of nightclub comic and USO performer Lancelot Pringle McBiff (Joe E. Lewis). Shemp also has the opportunity to clown onstage with the Andrews Sisters during a musical finale, as they perform Don't Sit Under the Appletree. Arguably, Shemp's best solo feature film credit.

While doing her tight-rope act in a local circus, Daisy Hawkins ('Judy Canova' (qv)), sees the owner shot by gangsters. The gangsters are after her to eliminate the only eye witness and the police chase her to testify against the gangsters. Daisy goes to the nearby army camp where her sweetheart, J. Wethersby "Pinky" Fothergill ('Jerry Colonna' (qv)), is the chief carrier pigeon trainer. Rehearsal for the big army show is being held by Private Stephen Chandler ('Allan Jones (I)' (qv). Daisy, looking like just another female impersonator to him, is mistaken for one of the boys in the chorus. Pinky sets him straight and they cut Daisy's hair and get her into a uniform, but have to work hard to convince Sergeant Butts ('William Demarest' (qv)) she is one of the boys. Some honest-to-goodness pulchritude comes to the show when Vicki Marlowe ('Ann Miller (I)' (qv)), the daughter of General Marlowe ('Clarence Kolb' (qv)), becomes interested in Chandler. Daisy wins a medal for marksmanship and the soldiers insist on taking "him" to celebrate at the town's hot spot. There, she is spotted by the gangsters when they see him/her polishing his/her nose.

(Carly Simon)
Can you be private when the juice is sweet
And the secret is crimson
Can you be quiet when my hands are heat
And the riptide rises?
Can you be blind and a beggar on your knees?
And live on our desire alone
Can you ride the tide in this insanity
And still keep as still as the shadows?
When the cry is so wide on the inside
When the truth jumps quick to the heart
When the wind or the stars are violent
Can you be silent?
Here’s a little something that the wizard said:
“You can kiss, but never tell
All the wisdom you need
And you’ll be needing some
Can be heard in the mouth of a seashell?
Chorus
Just the wide grey sky
And the hunchback moon
Will keep our memories
Not a living soul will remember us

Never try to take my life away...
I've got my personal wit that I can lose if I want to,
I can make it complete or divide it by two.
My personal shit will occur if I do -
Not your business, just my problem that is private too.
I've got my personal name, personal shame,
Personal pain, personal blame,
Gimme back my private skin, private grin,
A wanna sin if I wish and I wanna sing.
One day I'll overcome all the shit,
I'll rule my personal demons and lay them down to my
feet.
One day I'll conquer every desire:
This is my privacy, so I'll destroy them till they
expire.
One day I'll finish all my decay,
One day (sounds unreal, like 32nd of May!),
One day I'll be happy, one day I'll be free,
And that day will be mine, my privacy.
I'm not going to wait for you,
though it looks like doing something that I shouldn't
There are plenty of things that'll never be done:
If the Moon remains forever, there'll be no place for
the Sun.
Stay where you are,
Your death comes from afar.
Your own extinction
Is your shadow and bride,
It's your day and your night.
I've got my personal shape and my personal form,
I've got my private temperature, well I'm just warm,
I've got my private heart and my private veins,
My private blood brings oxygen to my private brains.
My ways may be wicked, and cruel they seem,
I walk my crooked mile to where I've never been.
My roads are few, but everyone is mine,
They run away the faster the more I run out of time.
One day I'll overwhelm all the shit,
I'll fight my personal demons and throw them down to my
feet.
One day I'll control body and mind:
Them both will serve me mixed and intertwined.
One day I'll end up all my decay,
One day (looks odd, like 69th of May!),
One day I'll be happy and I'll sing a song
That day will be mine, cuz I'll be gone.
I'm not going to wait for you,
though it sounds like doing something that I mustn't
There are so many things that'll never be done:
If the Moon remains forever, there'll be no time for
the Sun.
Stay where you can
Till all your roads are gone.
The last one will take you
From your miserable stand
To your personal end.
I've got my personal privacy.
(haven't you got one? haven't you got it, haven't you
got it too?)
I've got my private personality.
(never had it yet? You must have had it, you must have
had it too.)
I've got my personal privacy.
(haven't you got one? haven't you got it, haven't you
got it too?)
I've got my private personality.
(never had it yet? You must have had it, you must have
had it too.)
I don't walk someone's way,
I don't want someone's fate,
I don't need someone's life,
And I won't let someone take mine.
I'm not going to wait for you,
though it seems to be something that I mustn't do.
There are so many things that'll never be done:
If I'll remain forever, I'll have no time to be gone.
Stay where you are,
(don't you try to walk my way!)
Your death comes from afar.
(I don't need someone's life,
And I won't let someone take mine away from me).
Your own extinction
Is your shadow and bride,
It's your day and your night.
Stay where you can
(walk your crooked mile to where you've never been)
Till all your roads are gone.
(I run away the faster the more you run out of time)
The last one will take you
From your miserable stand
To your personal end.
I'm your fate
So never try to take my life away...
I'm your fate
Nothing goes on too long
Nothing goes on too long
Nothing goes on too long
Nothing goes on too long
Well I told the truth when I fucked the lives
Drugged down the city and burnt house of lies
They suck it up suck it in sink the needle and let's begin
Symbols often reward than they're used to
You cannot wait another day
So let the needle hit the tray
In your private garden it's your private fear
In your private garden
Nothing goes on too long
Nothing goes on too long
I pick around for 40 days and nights
The cities blaze and wasted radiates the nights
They suck 'em up, they shoot 'em in they feel the needle that let's it in
More drugs that kill than they're used to
You cannot wait another day
So let the needle hit the tray
In your private garden it's your private fear
In your private garden someone's gotta pay that fear
In your private garden it's your private fear
And if it comes down to someone's gotta pay that fear
In your private garden it's your private fear
Let's make this personal, baby, I'm testing you
'Cause it's about to get out of control
Just one precaution though
There's something you should know
We gotta try to keep it quiet, quiet
'Cause what nobody sees
They've no reason to believe
Girl, it should stay between you and me
We should keep it private
Nobody's got to know
Keep this thing on the low
Don't need nobody else
Just you and me invited
No need to shout it out
It's not what its about
If you can keep a secret
We can make it private, private, private
Let's keep it private, private, private
So here's the story now, people are talking loud
And I'm just trying to keep this under control
Girl, here's the bottom line
You can't have love without trust
So girl, let's keep it quiet, quiet
'Cause what nobody sees
They've no reason to believe
Girl, it should stay between you and me
We should keep it private
Nobody's got to know
Keep this thing on the low
Don't need nobody else
Just you and me invited
No need to shout it out
It's not what it's about
If you can keep a secret
We can make it private, private, private
Let's keep it private, private, private
Girl, you better believe
If they try to invade our space
I promise, I swear on my life
Gotta fight to protect this
Forget all the he said, she said
Keep it private
We should keep it private
Nobody's got to know
Keep this thing on the low
Don't need nobody else
Just you and me invited
No need to shout it out
It's not what it's about
If you can keep a secret
We can make it private, private, private
Let's keep it private, private, private

Can We Go Somewhere Private?
I Got My Eyes On Her And I Wanna Know
Can We Go Somewhere Private? (yeah)
I Caught A Vibe From Her And I Wanna Know
Can We Go Somewhere Private? (ah)
This Place Is Getting Crowded So I Wanna Know
Can We Go Somewhere Private?
I Got A Feeling Shawty Really Checking For Me
[Bridge:]
I Can Tell By The Way She Looked At Me (Owwwwwwwwwwwwwww)
That She Was Somebody Who Could Be (Ooogirl)
The Type That I Needed In My World (Yeah Yeah)
I Will Put The Game In Right For Girl (her eyes)
Her Eyes Said The Things She Didn't Say (she didn't say)
Like How She Was Really Feeling Me
So Tonight There's Nothin' I Would Prefer
'Cause I'm 'Gon Be All Over Her
[Outro:]
Can We Go Somewhere Private?
Can We Go Somewhere Private?
Can We Go Somewhere Private?
Ooooohhh Oh Oh
Can We Go Somewhere Private?
Girl every time you get me undressed
You move away and make me confess my
Love for you
You got my heart so why should i hide it
You say you want it to so why fight it
Like you do
Uh, you twist it and turn it
Uh, you twist it and burn it
Uh, you slash it and burn it
And then you crucify my heart
You crucify my heart
You crucify my heart
You crucify my heart
I know i could be waiting forever
Your love will keep me hanging and never let me know
You put a nail right into my heart
And i'm gonna have to make a new start and let you go
Uh, you twist it and turn it
Uh, you twist it and burn it
Uh, you slash it and burn it
And then you crucify my heart
You crucify my heart
You crucify my heart
You crucify my heart
You got it burning
Once upon a time
Someone introduced me to
The kind of girl i wish i never knew
And now our time is overdue
We got some breaking up to do
Do you really want me?
Or am i just another lover?
It's not the time for me and you
Do you really want me?
And can you do without my loving?
We got some breaking up to do
Or am i just another lover?
It's not the time for me and you
We got some breaking up to do
And then a couple of days ago
Someone told me stories that
You had been wasting all my precious time
And now i'll have to leave it all behind
We got some breaking up to do
Do you really want me?
Or am i just another lover?
It's not the time for me and you
Do you really want me?
And can you do without my loving?
We got some breaking up to do
Or am i just another lover?
We got some breaking up to do
Take a look at your boyfriend, baby
Cause he ain't treating you right
Stop wasting all of your time now, baby
You should be living your life
He says he loves you more
Than money and alcohol
But that seems like a thing that your lover would say
That boy is hurting you
And he's making a fool of you
And deep down you know it too
I have a feeling you'll see it through
And take a look at yourself now, baby
He's been telling you lies
Don't throw away your life now, baby
Why don't you open your eyes
He says he loves you more
Than money and alcohol
But that seems like a thing that your lover would say
That boy is hurting you
And he's making a fool of you
And deep down you know it too
I have a feeling you'll see it through
That boy is hurting you
And he's making a fool of you
And deep down you know it too
I have a feeling you'll see it through
I think it's gotta be you and me
The kind of love that's meant to be
I think it's gotta be you and me
You're undercover
My secret lover
You're what I need
My bullet's in the gun
You're undercover
My secret lover
You're what I need
My bullet's in the gun
I met you at the club no further comment
I said baby let's go back to your apartment
And girl take off your dress let's make this place a
mess
It feels so good, so tell me why should i confess?
You're undercover
My secret lover
You're what I need
My bullet's in the gun
You're undercover
My secret lover
You're what I need
My bullet's in the gun
Man, i'm a man machine
Check out my style cause i'm going real wild
I'm plugging in keyboards one at the time
And then i gotta song, gotta a song in no time
I can't wait for you to turn the lights off
This is something that i don't want to get out of
And i keep thinking of the love that we could share
So what's a boy like me supposed to do without you
You're undercover
My secret lover
You're what I need
My bullet's in the gun
You're undercover
My secret lover
You're what I need
Uh, come on let me be with you
You got me in the groove
So come on, i got to be with you
We've got nothing to lose
I wanna take you to a fancy bar
Everyone around me knows you're a star
Well i got the hook and you got the look
You are my favorite melody but i'm just a line in your
book
There's killer on the dancefloor
There's killer on the dancefloor
Killer on the dancefloor
There's killer on the dancefloor
Uh, come on let me be with you
You got me in the groove
So come on, i got to be with you
We've got nothing to lose
There's killer on the dancefloor
There's killer on the dancefloor
Killer on the dancefloor
There's killer on the dancefloor
Someone told me you play hard to get
I see it in the way you light your cigarette
I know your way but please don't turn me down
Cause you're the best piece of ass that i know in this
town
There's killer on the dancefloor
There's killer on the dancefloor
Killer on the dancefloor
There's killer on the dancefloor
Uh, come on let me be with you
You got me in the groove
So come on, i got to be with you
We've got nothing to lose
There's killer on the dancefloor
There's killer on the dancefloor
Killer on the dancefloor
There's killer on the dancefloor
Uh, come on let me be with you
You got me in the groove
So come on, i got to be with you
We've got nothing to lose
Killer on the dancefloor
There's killer on the dancefloor
Killer on the dancefloor
He's been the man in every war before
Fought so brave and nearly froze at Valley Forge
And in the big war he was the man
And now in Vietnam we owe a lot to the private
He has the courage of the knights of old
He's America's strenght standing straight and bold
With gun in hand he is a fightin' man
A courageous man yes we owe a lot to the private
He takes the gun and he points it straight
Straight at the heart of the things that free man hates
We owe a lot to the private
He's some lonely girl's only sweetheart
And he's some mother's only son
And he's some father's greatest pride and joy
Oh that great boy yes we owe a lot to the private
He takes the gun...
