1952 Nash-Healey Roadster by Pinin Farina
$94,600 SOLD! With Commission
Chassis no. 2240
Engine no. 1153
Body no. 11844
125 hp, 234.8 cu. in. inline six-cylinder engine, three-speed manual transmission with overdrive, front suspension with trailing lower links and coil springs, rear suspension with live axle and coil springs, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 102 in.
•One of only 150 built for 1952
•Unusual, highly original example of an iconic 1950s sports car
•Numbers-matching, including its original engine
During a chance meeting crossing the Atlantic on the Queen Elizabeth, Englishman Donald Healey and Nash-Kelvinator Chief George Mason discussed the prospect of collaborating on a sports car. The duo came to an agreement and batches of Nash Ambassador six-cylinder engines and three-speed gearboxes with overdrive were shipped to Warwickshire, England. There they were mated with Healey Silverstone chassis and a Panelcraft body of Healey design. Production began for the 1951 model year in December 1950. Racing versions finished 9th in class in the Mille Miglia and fourth overall at Le Mans, but the steep $4,063 price for Nash's halo car kept sales to just 104 units that first year.
Mason never cared for the original slab styling of the car, and having contracted with Italy's Battista "Pinin" Farina to style the senior Nashes for 1952, he asked Farina to update the Nash-Healey, too. Steel bodywork replaced aluminum. The price jumped to $5,858, and a total of just 150 were produced. A companion Le Mans coupe on a six-inch longer wheelbase was introduced for 1953, yet production remained low, with 162 units built for the model year. Thanks to its high price, and the emergence of the Jaguar XK120, production ended in 1954, after a total of 506 units had been built.
This unusual, highly original Nash-Healey has been in the current owner's possession since coming to the United States in March 2008. Previously, it was found resting in a warehouse in Holland for the better part of 25 years. It is a numbers-matching car, including the original engine. Though believed to have been repainted many years ago, the remainder of the car is likely all-original, and aside from a missing rearview mirror, it is virtually intact, including its top and side curtains. Period advertising materials are included in the sale. The car is running, though further recommissioning is recommended prior to making the car roadworthy after long-term storage. With today's interest in original cars and barn find examples, this is an outstanding and uncommon opportunity to purchase an iconic and rare Nash-Healey convertible.

ItaliaspeedTV - "The Great Ferraris of Sergio Pininfarina" Exhibition @ Maranello (II)
The Ferrari Museum in Maranello today inaugurated the Great Ferraris of Sergio Pininfarina exhibition which focuses on the years during which Sergio, the son of founder Battista "Pinin" Farina, made a pivotal contribution to the creation of the Prancing Horse's most famous models. A collaboration that started in 1952 and which represents one of the great icons of the Made in Italy phenomenon.
Present at the opening were Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo, Paolo Pininfarina, president of the eponymous company, Piero Ferrari and members of the Pininfarina family including the late Sergio's wife, Giorgia.
The exhibition, which runs until January 7th, comprises 22 models, including one-offs of the likes of the extraordinary Pinin, Ferrari's only experimentation with a four-door car, and the 330 GTC Speciale once owned by Lilian, Princess de Rethy of Belgium. The cars in the exhibition are split between three separate, themed halls which tell the story of Pininfarina's work on the racing cars ("Pininfarina and Racing"), the road cars ("Pininfarina and the Grand Tourers") and some of the experimental models bodied by the Turin coachbuilder ("Pininfarina and the Concept Cars"). In addition to the cars, many previously unseen exhibits from the Pininfarina family's private and company collections will also be on display, not least of which is the wooden styling buck of the Modulo concept car.
Also on display are some of the racing cars Pininfarina penned for Ferrari: the 250 LM, Ferrari's last overall winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 500 Mondial and 250 MM berlinettas, the classic 375 MM racer, the spectacular BB Le Mans, the short wheelbase 250 GT Berlinetta in which Stirling Moss won the Tourist Trophy, and the Sigma Formula 1 prototype from 1969.
The 11 road cars in the exhibition are divided between the front-engined berlinettas, such as the 1964 275 GTB4 and the Spider version of the legendary Daytona, the mid-rear-engined models, notably the milestone BB, and the contemporary creative evolution which encompasses, amongst others, the Testarossa and the 599 SA Aperta, the latter a homage by Ferrari to Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina.

Ferrari: the most beautiful classics
Ben presto alla scuderia giunsero i primi grandi nomi dell'automobilismo: Tazio Nuvolari, Luigi Arcangeli, Giuseppe Campari, Achille Varzi, Mario Umberto Barzacchini, Luigi Fagidi, Louis Chiron, Antonio Brivio, Guy Mall, Mario Todini e Carlo Pintacuda.

ItaliaspeedTV - 80th Geneva Motor Show: Pininfarina Press Conference & premiere of the 2uettottanta
Pininfarina is 80 years old and it starts the celebrations for this important milestone at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show by holding the world preview of a concept car, the 2uettottanta, and of two examples of recent highly successful stylistic collaboration agreements, the Ferrari 458 Italia and the Maserati GranCabrio.
So 80 years have gone by since that day, May 22, 1930, when Battista Pinin Farina (the surname was changed from Farina to Pininfarina in 1961 by Presidential decree) founded Società Anonima Carrozzeria Pinin Farina in Turin, a small artisan workshop that turned out small production runs and special bodywork to order for wealthy private clients.
Through a long process of growth and transformation, ideas and creative verve, often ahead of its time, adapting to profound social, economic and technical changes in the course of 80 years, Pininfarina has evolved from an artisan workshop to an international conglomerate that operates as a global partner of the motor industry. Today Pininfarina, which was listed on the Stock Exchange in 1986, has branches in Italy, Germany, Sweden, Morocco, China and the United States. Its automotive clients include prestigious brands such as Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Ford, Volvo, Tata Motors, Chery, JAC and Brilliance. Important partnerships have also been developed over the years in other sectors, with clients such as Ansaldobreda, Eurostar, Iveco and Prinoth. Pininfarina Extra, the Group Company that specialises in product and interior design, architecture, boats and aeronautics, was founded more than 20 years ago, and boasts over 400 projects to its name.
Numerous Pininfarina creations are now part of the prestigious collections of museums in Italy and abroad, such as the MoMA of New York, which acquired a Cisitalia 202 Berlinetta in the 1940s. Pininfarina design has received numerous prizes in its 80 years of history, the most recent being: the Louis Vuitton Classic Concept award for the Maserati Birdcage 75th; the red dot award 2008 for the Sintesi; the Compasso dOro 2008 for the Nido; and the Trophée du Design 2009. Sergio and Battista Pinin Farina are both members of the famous European Automotive Hall of Fame, an institution created to celebrate the men who have made motoring history.
In addition to its 80 years of experience, success and prestigious agreements, Pininfarina is unique in the world market for its capacity to combine tradition and the skills developed over the years to meet the new demands of its clients and the market. Eras have passed, men have succeeded other men, comments Chairman Paolo Pininfarina, but in its genes, Pininfarina today is the same as it was in the 1930s: the central role of design, aesthetic sensitivity capable of creating timeless beauty, constant striving for innovation, the strength of a tradition that brings together industry, technology and stylistic research, the capacity to interpret the clients requirements without emptying the brand of its identity, and a propensity for long-term collaborations. These values, together with the commitment of the entire Group, will enable us to build a bridge towards the future.

Based on the Ferrari 458 Spider, with which it shares the wheelbase and tracks, the Sergio Concept combines elements from Pininfarina's tradition with modern design cues.
Among the references to the design firm's past creations are the extreme proportions typical of the dream cars from the 1960s and 1970s, the hole pattern on the engine hood -- reminding the Ferrari Modulo -- and the clean surfacing of the front end with the single transparent transversal element integrating the headlights, reminiscent of the Dino Berlinetta Speciale 1965 -- also on display at the Geneva Show.
At the same time the body features some sharp character lines and an interesting graphic contrast provided by the dark surface of the hood flowing into the cockpit area and extending up to the rear wheels.
The latest Pininfarina concept is homage to the Italian coachbuilder's legendary Chairman Sergio Pininfarina, who died in July last year. Building on the relationship Sergio founded with Ferrari, the concept is built on a 458 Spider platform and is powered by the same engine and drivetrain.
The concept encapsulates the three basic values of Pininfarina's DNA -- elegance purity and innovation," says Fabio Fillipini, the coachbuilder's design director. "The fourth value is emotion: elegant, pure design but always expressed through emotion."
Devoid of a windscreen, the Sergio concept is a two-seat barchetta in the purest form. Aerodynamics ensure that the wind is directed away from occupants when driving -- air passes through the lower bumper section and out the front bonnet over the cabin. Pininfarina calls this a 'virtual windscreen'.
A few lines dividing the surface volumes intersect the Sergio concept's sensuous red body. It is this simple purity and lack of extraneous detailing that makes the Pininfarina such a successful design, and one that is representative of the company that has penned Ferrari designs for 40 years.
The design was inspired by some of Pininfarina's iconic creations for Ferrari, notably the 1965 Dino Special, the first car designed entirely by Sergio without his father Battista (Pinin) Farina's help. This small, avant-garde sports car is also on display alongside the Sergio concept on the coachbuilder's stand.
But there are also references to other illustrious creations done under Sergio's watch, such as the Modulo concept. This car provided inspiration for the round holes on the engine cover, which serves to ventilate the mid-mounted V8.
While the Cambiano concept revealed at last year's Geneva show was a luxurious, classic design showing Pininfarina's technical aptitude, the Sergio expresses the company's emotional values through its reference to the past. And it is one of the best concepts on show.
