Chanchalam, a hamlet near Muchikunda(Musi) is surprised at the frequent visits of Prince Mohd Quli Qutbshah. After few days there is a heavy downpour and the river is in spate. The Prince, Oh Prince...somebody is shouting and the village folk shifted their gaze while one girl is trembling in anxiety as the Prince is swimming across the river braving even flooding stream. The secret is out, the King Ibrahim Quli given the title Malkhibharam, has been made to accept the love and Bhagmati, a low caste dancer as his daughter-in-law. He immediately constructed Purana Pul for his son's safety. After ascending throne Mohd made the area around into a new city Bhagyanagar/Hyderabad in 1490s. But such a hoary past could not guarantee even proper maintenance to a gumbaz believed to have been erected on her mortal remains. Authenticity may be hazy but one needs to respect the popular folklore in such tricky situations.

A team building activity on the Outbound. Theme - Film on the history of How Hyderabad got its name. Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, a ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, was the founder of Hyderabad City. In the year 1591, he laid the foundation of a new city which he called Bhagyanagar after his beloved queen 'Bhagmati'. Bhagmati embraced Islam and took the name Hyder Mahal and consequently Bhagynagar was renamed Hyderabad after her. The film is like an re-incarnated version of this story. (We got approx 4 hours to write the script, Get costumes, write the screenplay, and shoot the film. Post production was a long 11 hour job, lots and lots of editing.. which we survived only because of the Bottle of Antiquity.. Hence We have named our production house -Antiquity.. ;-) ) P.S. - all of us part of the film are first timers at this.. So dont be too critical..

Purana Pul - The First Bridge of Hyderabad

The Purana Pul, the first bridge of the Hyderabad City was built in 1578 by Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah. The bridge has 22 arches and is 600 feet long and 35 feet broad and 54 feet above the river bed. According to the legend, Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah was in love with Bhagmati, a Hindu girl who lived on the other side of Musi river. His father the king decided to build the bridge so that his son could cross over the river safely. What ought to be a place of historical significance conserved and displayed with pride, the 450-year-old Purana Pul across the Musi has been reduced to a vegetable and fish market, a shabby stretch which people would choose not even to glance at. The heavy rush on the bridge over the past decades has resulted in irreparable damage to the unique structure. Huge cracks developed on the arches and pillars of the 600-feet long bridge endangering the structure. This video is a small effort to let Hyderabadis(At least, the people who are near by Puranapul) know the historical siginificance of this bridge and our negligence towards it.
